My father and my grandparents are buried here. Thank you for a wonderful video about this special place.
LOL, I think my subscribers are the best :-) Cool blue sun glasses! I love seeing Stephen Foster's grave. I didn't know he died so young. Once again, excellent editing and music. You're a pro. Can I ask what microphone you use? It has a great sound. Thanks, Whitt!
Steve, I’m using the shure mv88 microphone. Your words mean a lot. You are the best at this, and I’m glad to have your support. Thanks again. I loved your last video. Well, I love them all. :)
@@Whittdocs Thanks, Whitt! It sounds so much better than my microphone. Or maybe it's just your voice :-) I appreciate you sharing that with me. I'll check it out.
@Forever Graveyards I know, right? :-)
You should visit Cedar Grove Cemetery in New Bern, NC. New Bern was incorporated in 1710. My family came to the area in 1700, Beaufort Co. I have found many family members burial sites but my Great Grand father's grave has been lost. Very sad....Church and tree where he was buried has been lost.
Thanks for sharing that with me. I would love to make a visit there sometime.
First person highlighted Foster born on the 50th anniversary of Declaration of independence. Same day that John Adams and Thomas Jefferson died

I'm from Pittsburgh and live a few blocks away from the cemetery. We're very lucky to have such a large and historic site that's literally in the middle of an urban area. In addition to the individuals you mentioned, Lem Billings, longtime friend and advisor to JFK is interred here. Also, many members of the Mellon family, who helped found their namesake Carnegie Mellon University as well as Mellon Bank (now Bank of New York).
This was a very interesting place to visit. The history and architecture are both amazing. Thank you so much for watching.
I live near Pittsburgh PA, and Allegheny County. I’m about a half hour away.
Sadly, a statue of Stephen Foster near the University of Pittsburgh campus was removed in 2018. Apparently it was felt the statue would offend a few sensitive souls.
Fortunately, there is a Stephen Foster Memorial just across the street.
I hadn’t heard that. I appreciate you watching.
@mrlpn2 Completely agree. It seems there are some who are just looking to be offended. Sad indeed.
If anything, Foster was a supporter and defender of the anti-slavery movement. His song "We are coming, Father Abram" was used as a tool to inspire and urge men to join the union army and is said to be one of Lincoln's favorite songs. Foster's crime was contributing songs to minstrel shows. People got offended by that part of his background and demanded that the statue be removed. Fortunately, we have a number of buildings that still bear his name and there is no plan that I know of to re-name them.
Shelbyville, TN originally from Nashville...
I love Tennessee. Thanks for watching.
the most famous graves are actually Lillian Russell and Josh Gibson...
I remember chef brockett.. so incredibly interesting vlog my friend to see Stephen foster grave..
Yeah, Stephen foster. Composer of the state song for our home state.
Stephen Foster's story is a tragic one. He made very little money on all the songs that he wrote. He was an enormous talent but a drinker and he literally had only a few pennies to his name when he died at a very young age. His memory does live on in the enormous catalog of songs he left behind.
Partying in there was the best I was part of the last era to have that great time as our parents parents and some to do so the old lawrenceville was awesome after 2005 things changed but for the better a lot of his in LV 6th 9th 10th WARd living was all different but made up Lawrenceville as 1 naiborhood
Thank you from West Virginia
Hello Glen. Hope you’re doing well. Im not far from West Virginia myself. Thank you.
I, too, live just 2 blocks from Allegheny Cemetary. So much history here. There is also a small cemetery in downtown, between two churches. An Indian chief that helped the settlers is buried there.
Have you ever visited Grandview Cemetary in Johnstown? There are touching stones unmarked, victims of the 1889 flood. I grew up next to an old old cemetary there dating back to civil war vets. It was neglected, restored, neglected and restored and neglected. Now it is a park, with a greenhouse on it. Most of the stones have been removed, due to destruction of time.
I really like the intro music at the beginning.
Thank you! I try to pick music that flows well with the topic.
Great video. Growing up a mile away from the cemetery, I’ve spent many many hours in there, I just ate my lunch in there today in fact. It is a massive cemetery, people have to see it to appreciate how big it actually is.
There’s a children’s section from the 1800’s on the Stanton Ave side that you have to get out of your car and walk up the little hill to see. It’s along the black stone wall. A lot of those old graves have the divots in the ground where the casket collapsed.
There used to be a couple other mausoleum type graves but were torn down because people broke into them and would drink or sleep in them.
Your cemetery visits just keep getting better and better Whittdocs! This cemetery certainly had lots of history. Thanks for taking us along!
Thanks for your support Ken. I appreciate you.
Love your video's !! Hi from Cork Ireland !!
Hello to Ireland!! Thanks so much for watching!
@@Whittdocs always will they are fabulous !! x
Correct me if I am Wrong, but didn't Negle lead a Brigade in one of the Western theatre's during the Civil War ? For some reason Perryville comes to mind.
Yakima Washington. We have an old pioneer cemetery here in Union Gap. There are some very devastating stories here and even a relative of John Quincy Adams is buried here.
Howard Hughes grave is on washington, but you can not see it from the road. North of the road is a bread company. Look for a small black gate. His dad company is on Pock st. as you go over the rr tracks. You can turn in their a small cop station in back.
In houston tx.
Awesome. Thanks for the info.
Wow what an amazing. old cemetery . I love the old stones and the history there . Thanks for the video .
Historical cemeteries hold the most interesting individuals.
Just found your channel. I love how you have history with the markers. Thank you!
Welcome aboard. Glad you’re with me.
Yay. Pittsburgh!!!
You need to visit graves of some civil rights icons like ML KING, Viola Luizzo who was a civil rights martyr in Alabama off US 80 in Lowndes County, Alabama.
In my latest video, I visited the final resting place of Rosa Parks. You should check it out.
When you come back to Pittsburgh Visit Robert Budd Dwyer he was our State Politician who committed suicide by shooting himself in the mouth.. that’s a crazy story!!!!!
I have actually heard of him and know his story. Very crazy!
You have an interesting voice that I enjoy listening 24/7. Well, at least nightly before I retire for the evening.
I really appreciate that. Thanks so much for watching.
Greetings from Greensburg, Pennsylvania. Wait, I was in Ford City last week and took a pic of Mr. Ford in a park there. Great video. Very respectfully done.
BETH YADAMEC I appreciate the comment. Thanks so much for watching.
I am from the Pittsburgh area..the last Grave you showed..if you stand in front of it..the entrance was a door that would lift backwards to reveal the crypts underneath..which is now covered by poured concrete..impossible to open..would like to see you do another video of Allegheny Cemetery...this time..you need to walk down what's called Millionaires Row...the Beautiful and Breathtaking Mausoleums are Truly one of a kind.Hollywood Actress Lillian Russell is Buried along Millionaires Row...thank you for Touring this Cemetery..brings back a lot of Memories
I would love to make a return visit. Thanks for watching.
Just visited the Confederate Stockade Cemetery on Johnsons Island in Sandusky Ohio. It'd make an interesting video. Lots of history. Love your videos!
Thanks for sharing. Sandusky is probably 5-6 hours from me, I’d definitely love to make a visit there.
Hey I really enjoy your videos and have learned alot. If you get time look into Hollywood Cemetery in Richmond Virginia where i'm from there are alot of famous people there including Jefferson Davis! Keep up the great work Thank you..
Jim Waliker thanks so much for watching and for the suggestion. Greatly appreciate it.
Watching from West Yorkshire, England, really enjoying your tours and historic information of all these cemetery visits you do
I’m thrilled to hear that you’re watching my videos from England.
I came back and watched this video see the slab grave my grandfather has he was world war 2 vet. They paid for his slab and head stone was wondering if it was because he was world war2 vet and he was buried on family property where lot family members are buried. He chose not be buried in church cemetery or a veterans cemetery. Since the original home he was raised in part still standing lot family members trying to preserve it. Was glad his wishes was honored. Here I see graves like his. Maybe they all are vetrans.. so I appreciate watching this now know his not unusual after all.🙂👍 respectfully neita james. I'm from Georgia. Mainly live in Tennessee where lot my husband family came from lot still in Tennessee some in georgia, Kentucky, Ohio. Wisconsin. They all over. I love tennessee up in the mountains where its quiet and very peaceful neighbors not very close. His father, uncles bought him land this where he wanted live raise our family. It's very beautiful. Him being the only son. They spoiled him. His uncle in his 90s his mom now live with us. They both still very active.. thank you once again for a beautiful interesting video do love the music. 🙂👍👋. First person highlighted Foster born on the 50th anniversary of Declaration of independence. Same day that John Adams and Thomas Jefferson died
I didn’t realize that. Thank you so much for that comment. Really appreciate it.
Stephen Foster was born the same day that both John Adams and Thomas Jefferson passed away, exactly 50 years to the day of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
That’s an amazing coincidence. Thanks so much for sharing.
I currently live in Tioga Texas. It's the home town of Gene Autry. Country singer lives here in Tioga.
Hello to Texas! Thanks so much for watching.
I'm from Pittsburgh and ice never visited this cemetary thanks you do a awesome job
You should make a visit there. It’s fascinating.
Some of these graves are out of this world 🌎 ppl must have had alot of $ to buy these amazing headstones.
Lovely graveyard 👌 thank you 4 taking your time out & showing us what you do is great 👍 😀 😊
I appreciate the kind words. And I agree about the graves. Some of these markers are unbelievable. Thanks for watching!
So many interesting people who I had never heard of before...thanks for all the work that you put into these videos, Chris.
You’re so kind. Thank you.
Andy Warhol's grave is in Pittsburgh.
I actually have a visit on my channel to his grave. Thanks so much for watching.
I'm from Pottsville Pa
Enjoyed the tour. Will check out this awesome place soon. Driven by it many times. Seems to go on for miles!
You should definitely check it out. Very neat place.
I live in a Westmoreland County, and need to visit this one.
Everyday I try too learn something new. Thank you so much for your kindness while you take us through history.
Thanks once again.
Lovely video! The richness of history is all there. The artistry of the headstones & memorials is shrinking in modern times. I think the pyramids in Egypt are the Grand Daddies of them all 🍀Be safe in your wanderings!😊
I appreciate the comment. Thank you so much for that. I really appreciate your support.
@@Whittdocs Youre most welcome, Whittdocs!🍀😊
There are famous graves in Birmingham alabama like oak hill Elmwood cemeteries
I would love to visit!
Love your videos! They are always so interesting! I'm in Lexington KY.

Hello to Pittsburgh. Thanks for watching.
Im from Ohio org
But now live in Alabama...
Where in Ohio?
I’m a proud resident of Ford City, PA. I found it very cool you highlighted Capt. Ford’s tomb at the end of video. It’s beautiful. I’m so grateful his efforts created the little town I love! Thank you
I appreciate those kind comments. Thank you!
Living in Pittsburgh and having visited this cemetery quite a bit, I love your visit to Jane Grey Swisshelm; you left the S out in pronouncing her name. Civil War nurse, women rights advocate, and I live a stones throw away from her mill property. On presenting Cathbrite, aviation pioneer, the wrong headstone is shown. It’s his FATHER’S in the shot; Cathbrite’s is slightly shown-the memorial with the columns and a little to the right.
Thanks for the corrections!
You’re welcome, and I loved the video. I’m subscribing because I love visiting cemeteries too!
Very cool!!! I love old cemeteries in general, but when they hold such historic value that makes it even better. One day I’ll have to send you a pic of Jimmie Davis’ grave. He was born and raised in the parish where I grew up. Not only was he a Louisiana governor, he was the singer who made the song “You are My Sunshine” famous. He’s buried a few miles from my mother’s house. But only if you’re interested. Love from Louisiana ❤️❤️❤️
That sounds great. I’m very familiar with him. Thanks so much for watching.
I lived in Pittsburgh when I was a kid. I live in Butler, PA now.
Oh nice. I enjoyed my visit. Thanks for watching.
MrHeadbanger366 I was in Butler, Butler county taking pics! Beautiful area.
From the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains in NC 😀Tom Dooley and Laura Foster are buried nearby.
I’d love to make it down that way. It’s not terribly far from me.

I would love to make it to Baltimore. I visited Edgar Allen Poe’s grave, but it was before I started making videos. I need to get back. Thanks for the suggestion.
@@Whittdocs you probably visited Edgar Allen Poes memorial with the big statue his actual grave is behind the church. I looked you up on fb and liked it so I can follow you, if you are in the area again message me and I will take you to a few cemetery's with famous people.

I'm from Atlanta, Georgia and I'm just wondering if you've ever visited the Oakland Cemetery in Atlanta? It has loads of history from Civil War graves to the author of the movie Gone With the Wind (Margarite Mitchell). It's also said to be haunted because of the bloody battle and the burning of Atlanta during the Civil War. I would love for you to do a video on it some time.
I would absolutely love to visit there.
From New York
Glad I found your channel love it!
I’m glad you did too. Thank you so much.
