    Ah, the early days of pop videos......when they REALLY were imaginative - if abit leftfield and slightly bonkers at times. At least they were original. Those were the days when everyone wanted a 'surreal' pop video.....from Toyah to early Eurythmics.......and Adam Ant to Ultravox. I suppose looking back, the 80's was the decade for the 'surreal' pop video. After this groups became more interested in making more realistic videos....and the magic as gone. 1980's videos are escapist and fantastical. Best of all they're still great to watch today.

      Any new medium goes through an early explosion of novelty and experimentation, but then settles down to those forms that make the most money and gets rather samey. Computer games is another great example.

      there's a good reason the style of the 80s was left behind so staunchly and quickly. nothing about it is timeless.

    • @robtyman4281
      @robtyman4281 3 роки тому +14

      @@Brandon-cv9uh I disagree with you, but then I remember the 80's as I was around then. I'm assuming you weren't? Anyway, the best 80's music is from the first half of that decade (1980 to 1984). After this the music got blander, less innovative and more forgettable. Some of the music from the early years of the 80's is absolutely timeless! ...and could be written today.

    Toyah is a Kate Bush fan and the two are friends. I was crazy about anything Toyah and still am. First saw her on uk tv show Shoestring, where I was hooked when she sang the track Danced, one of my all time favourites. Saw her as my first gig ever in Bristol Colston Hall, Changeling tour...mesmerized. Live no one can come close to her. Love and hugs to Toyah.

Somehow, this amazing song passed me by in the '80s, and I only got to know it in later years. As a long time fan of Toyah, I had the great pleasure of doing personal security for Her at one of Her concerts some years ago. Despite being full on in Her videos and having a huge stage presence, I found Toyah to be quite a shy person, who did not seem to relish the attention She received while signing various pieces of merchandise thrust in front of Her. Eventually this stopped and She took My arm and quietly asked if I could return Her backstage to collect a few belongings, then escort her to Her car parked outside the venue, We chatted briefly, She thanked Me, gave Me a hug then got into Her car and drove off, I had expected Her to be whisked away by someone else, but this just proved Toyah is is an independent woman. Great memories. Thankyou Toyah.

    Great song & Great video. My favourite Toyah record. The early eighties had some great artists & video directors. I miss the eighties !

    My fave Toyah cut. LOVE the chorus! So uplifting and soaring. She has such a unique voice. Hazel O'Connor is another similar singer.

    What a beautiful song. I loved it back in the 80's when I heard it first time and now recently re-discovered it. This is my favourited song of yours. I enjoy listening to it more and more. Honestly, Toyah is one my all-time pop idols. Thanks Toyah for all the lovely music. So nice to see you are still going as strong as ever. GOD BLESS YOU. I am enjoying your new videos with Robert. Really lovely. GOD BLESS YOU BOTH AND YOUR LOVE. XX.

    First time was 'I want to be free' when I first heard of Toyah Wilcox. Next time recently it was as a backing singer on Squeeze's 'Cool For Cats' and the Sunday Brunch with Robert Fripp.

    This is the first 45-single I bought of Toyah's. It's so cool to see the video for the first time also. She truly was a unique talent and vision. I loved her albums, image and concepts. The Greatest!

      In Modern British Pop Music by Female Artists, 'Thunder In the Mountains' by Toyah is one of the most passionate songs I have ever heard by an English Pop Singer. Not just the song, but also the music video. It shouldn't really be that way because the video looks quite cheap in what they could have spent for a music video at the time, but with her voice, these particular visuals and Toyah's 150% passion; the whole bloody thing just works.Even though the music video looks cheap, you can see there was complete design innovation in how this music video came across for the public.
      The thing about Toyah is that she always gave 150% in everything she recorded and showed on music video.That's why her songs and visual images are just so moving to watch even by the advancement of today's industry music standards.
