    they need to change the structure in the MLS, like introducing promotions and relegation's and a proper transfer window.

      If MLS want to truly be more competitive than in recent years they need more than just introducing promotion and relegation. They need to stop the expansion process, stop the draft system, and many more changes. But if accepted, promotion and relegation wouldn’t start until we find a stable third division as well. Because USL finally became a 2nd Division and we have a 4th Division but there are two proposed 3rd divisions. With the promotion and relegation MLS and USL will have to agree upon what they do with conferences and the B Teams. There’s a lot more they need to reconstruct

      That is the dumbest idea, the US doesn't have the football pyramid to support that, they have a different sports culture.

      jake Stevens wait ten years that’s when the millions of dollars that the clubs paid to get in will be paid back and more so clubs won’t feel like they wasted money and the second division teams build financial stability

    This team has already become my favorite. Just for what it represents. This gives me hope for the growth of football culture in the US. LAFC is doing all the right things to spark interest in the inner city.

    • @anthonylong9067
      @anthonylong9067 6 років тому +37

      Fin Walker trust me. We already know. And we’re still trying to work on it. But you gotta understand there’s a bigger picture.
      1- the league is in two giant fucking countries
      2- USL, NASL, UPSL, and other leagues aren’t financially stable enough. Especially NASL which keeps folding then rebranding.
      3- most lower league teams play in baseball stadiums
      4- some mls teams still dont have their own stadium. So I guess mls is focusing on that first.

    • @Dylan-xb4zb
      @Dylan-xb4zb 6 років тому +5

      +Anthony Long Facts. People think it would be easy to integrate pro/rel but don't understand the bigger picture at all whatsoever. If MLS ever even consider it, it would probably take years and years for it to be properly integrated.

      Or we get the Franchises to buy their way out of MLS and become real clubs and form their own league that would get rid of the salary cap and make more money

    • @TheTroyc1982
      @TheTroyc1982 6 років тому +2

      None of that would make them more money and loose a lot more money in fact.

    • @iancallaghan4599
      @iancallaghan4599 6 років тому

      The teams in the MLS had to buy there way into the league and own a part of the league. It won’t happen cause those clubs that payed millions of dollars would chose for pro/rel and they would lose a lot of money. also the leagues below have no money or stability

    I'm from LA and I'm excited for LAFC, I would be more excited if they were promoted and not an expansion team. The MLS needs to stop trying to be like the NBA, MLB, NHL, and NFL. It doesn't work for Football.

      truuuuuuuu dat, but they haven't changed shit even after The U.S didn't qualify... tbh nothing is going to happen until they start paying Gulati and others...I bet you that's the biggest reason why he doesn't care... did you know he doesn't get paid to be the president of the United States Soccer? I feel like it's generational where nothing will happen unless there is money or death. Because I feel like the current federation will be there until they die as well.

      I'm from the UK and I find it interesting to see football do things differently in the US, instead of just being a Premiership clone which would be boring as hell. You know what would be interesting would be if NFL teams, or maybe even NHL, NBA or MLB teams would franchise versions of their team in MLS, so for instance the Las Vegas team could be the Las Vegas Raiders, with the same colors as the NFL team, or the Miami team could be Miami Heat Soccer Club. You could tap into that history and fanbase that way.

    I don't get how people can sat they're plastic? And I hate plastic fans. As a Port Vale fan I have experienced plastic fans first hand, as alot of our "fans" were plastic and moved on to support Stoke when they were promoted to the premier league. That's being plastic- glory hunting. These people don't have a team they can call their own, now they do and it's right on their door steps, the plastic fans would be those who were LA Galaxy fans.
    Also. I follow Toronto, watching as many of the games live (often in the early ours of the morning due to time difference) and paying £100 for a shirt off the MLS website. I follow them because I have family in Toronto and I often visit and go TFC games while I'm there. I look forward to perhaps see this team play at BMO field, I also look forward to see how much of a fuck up Bob Bradley will cause

      +Jack Freeman - That was a very bold comment for an Englishman. Well done. I have never read a single positive comment from an Englishman on a US soccer/MLS thread. Honestly a first. I hardly see any positive comments on anything United States from the English.
      We have some English players in MLS doing a great job and some struggling to make a name for themselves.
      LAFC is going to be a hit, those are fans of the game and they want a team to call their own.
      As for Bob Bradley - if he has the money and the talent he will do just fine.
      He never had the opportunity to put his stamp on Swansea while he was there.
      Where are they now - still in the drop zone.

    As someone who was born and raised in LA and supports the Galaxy, I believe the LAFC is going to be successful due to the potential LA has as a city. To bash on the Galaxy and say that they are not an LA team or don’t represent LA is unfair. LA is huge and being from DTLA I don’t mind the commute to games. Think of LA as the state side version of London. Realistically LA could be home to 4-6 teams because of the diversity and size of the city. LAFC is just on a hype. The Galaxy will forever be LA thru and thru

    • @sbakernyc5761
      @sbakernyc5761 6 років тому

      Max Diego diversity of the city? Size? You're talking about New York bruh lol. London and New York have almost identical populations. New York is also a lot more diverse; both in regards our poluation and our geography. We got FIVE boroughs fam...I'd also say we have a far more "balanced" diversity;LA is like 65% Mexican; not sure how diverse that is

      Bro this isn’t Europe, our league is based on other leagues in North America because that’s the market this league caters to. Just because other places do something doesn’t mean we have to do it like them.

    • @biggsleezy
      @biggsleezy 6 років тому +3

      At the end of the day, you can't have an LAFC without MLS, but you can still have Man Utd without the PL, so if MLS goes bankrupted and folds all the mls teams fold, and everything the teams stood for and fought for would be pointless/forgotten.
      If there was no Premier league, the english clubs will still exist and find other ways to play against each other and get fans support no matter what. There's a reason why the oldest football club(a 19th century club), despite being in the 9th tier of english football, still exist, because the fans and owners see the difference between a club and a franchise and don't treat them as franchises.

  • @Nglofc
    @Nglofc 6 років тому +64

      If you support a local team, and it stops being your local team, and you feel like they left their local community behind, wouldn't you want a now club locally rather than support a club that left your area? Look at Wimbledon FC in the UK for a European example of this.

      FVNGVSS !! I think that, in many ways, a lot of support for LAFC has come about because of the way that the Galaxy did and continue to do business. They have always been the favorite son in MLS, and have always gotten the advantages from the league and chased the money. And that money led them to leave LA for Carson, which is a suburb which, with LA traffic, can take people from most of the city several hours to reach. LAFC is a team for the city of LA, not for the money and the reputation of MLS.

    What I guess they didn't mention was that since day 1 of the MLS the Galaxy was always seeking for a downtown stadium, but the city didn't allow them. The Galaxy know that not being in the center of LA affects the ticket sales.

      Multijj he didn't say LAFC was a shitty name, he was probably referring to names like Dolphins. But as a UK fan I find it interesting to see them do things differently, if it was just a premiership clone with every club called New York United, LA United, Pittsburgh United etc all playing in all red or all blue it would get pretty boring imo. And admit it, you'd find it a bit cringey if they did copy everything about the premiership. Like when they used the 'Real' name for Salt Lake, with no regard to what it means or why they have the title. If anything they should be influenced by South American football, because a lot of US football fans are from Latin America.

That's seriously absurd, thinking 15 miles isn't local enough in a country the size of the US. In all sports so many people support clubs that are like two hours away. I kind of want to see the Galaxy dominante them over the year, even though I'm not a Galaxy fan by any means

    LONG POST WARNING: For those abroad critical of MLS. Some perspective. MLS is being smart regarding LA. They will be creating regional divisions once expansion to 28 is done in the next 2-3 years. But, in LA and NY, the two biggest markets in the country, they want to try and create an intra-city rivalry to complement the regional rivalries like Seattle & Portland. It's a smart strategy, but one that hasn't taken root in NY yet b/c NY Red Bulls is a stupid, corporate name and they play way out in New Jersey. Plus, they don't have much history to begin with. The demographics of LA are more favorable and LA Galaxy have been the most succesful team in the league in its 22 year short history. So their fanbase may be more solid and loyal. I feel like it might be the "rich/upperclass" club and LAFC wearing the Black and Gold will appeal to the working class. There stadium being close to downtown and way nicer than the Galaxy's Suburban stadium may make them the megaclub and people abandon the Galaxy. Movie Stars are already wearing LAFC shwag and Will Farrell is an owner so we'll see how it plays out.
    As for the rest of the league, I'm from Kansas City which is one of the Top 5 soccer cities in America, even though it's not a huge city. Sporting KC has a world-class stadium and its ownership are investing a lot in their Academy, like many MLS clubs. We just produced a local kid who signed with Juventus and is a future National Team starter, potentially. So MLS is also implementing certain aspects of the European model.
    Seattle, Portland & KC have set themselves apart in the last 10 years and now new expansion clubs are following their lead like Orlando and Atlanta (2nd year & already a Top 5 MLS club on and off the pitch). Sacramento and Cincinnati are likely going to be awarded expansion clubs based on how passionate their fan support is. But is any of this comparable to EPL, Bundesliga, Serie A when it comes to passion? Of course not. Nor should it be. Let the American game evolve into what it's meant to become. I didn't grow up with Sporting KC (I'm 38) and given my fandom as a birthright like in the UK and the rest of Europe.
    The reality is that the Geography of the US & Canada is so, so different. When you're trying to grow the game and bring new fans into the fold in Toronto, Chicago, Philadelphia, Etc...why would we follow the International Calendar (YET)? Are new fans going to sit in 5 degree (Farenheit) weather in Montreal in February? They will in June though. Hell, Sporting KC won the MLS Cup in 2013 at home vs. Real Salt Lake in December and it was 10 degrees out and I even questioned my sanity. And I'm a huge fan.
    The league will Regionalize having 28 clubs with 4 divisions of 7 (1.West Coast 2.Midwest/Texas/Mountain States 3.South & Mid-Atlantic 4.Northeast US + Toronto & Montreal) Clubs will play their divisional counterparts more often to help the rivalries grow and cut back on the travel. It's a smart strategy. Sporting playing Minnesota United, Chicago Fire, Houston Dynamo, etc.. is a better strategy right now, for many reasons. Yes, it's not 1 table with a balanced schedule. Yes there are playoffs, but as long as they don't mess with the integrity of the game itself, like the 90 minute countdown clock and shootouts to settle any game if it's tied after full-time (like they did in the 90's when the league started) we have to do what is smart to grow the game and bring in new fans. Not purity and traditional for the sake of not offending traditionalists and snobs in this country who will always regard MLS as an inferior product against the EPL. It's Apples to Oranges, not Apples to Apples. Maybe it always will be or maybe promotion/relegation will happen someday. But it's a dumb idea right now. So much momentum and we are heading in a positive direction, while our American Football, NFL, is kind of dying. It's not time to integrate these things yet, if ever.
    The league isn't making an overall profit annually yet and some want the new ownership in Minnesota, LA & Nashville to pay $150 Million as an expansion fee only to be relegated in year 2? How on earth would that be feasable right now? "Hey Nashville, welcome to the league, but sorry, you're in the 2nd division. What's relegation you ask man from Tennessee who doesn't know much about Soccer yet, but we would love you to become a fan and your kids to become lifelong fans?"
    The European leagues are "clubs" that have a whole different business model than "ownership" who ponied up big $ for a club and many have built stadiums with their own money. They've been around for 100+ years and their road games are at the most 300 miles away. In North America we have different realities and the league has always said that we may get to Promotion/Relegation someday. Build up the USL as a 2nd division, continue to improve the quality of play on the field (or pitch) and let's see where we are at in 10 years. Soccer or Football? it's semantics. Pitch or Field? Game or Match? Same thing. The nomenclature for the North American game will naturally develop. Who cares right now? It's about growing the game and bringing in new fans.
    Finally, one other point: Don't look at Beckham and Miami as any sort of representation overall of the current MLS strategies. That deal was made with him in 2007 and it's a joke. Miami is a terrible sports town. It'll be a failure. It already has been. No one wants a team there. It's been a 5-year clusterfuck, but it's "VERY LATIN" and "A HUGE MARKET" so we'll force a club in there. Hope I'm proven wrong.
    I'm just one fans perspective, though. Just trying to point out complexities some don't think about. Doesn't mean I'm right though.

I use to get free tickets to games and went but it never felt like my club and then when they moved to Carson that kinda cemented that feeling. But LAFC will be in the heart of LA and a short drive/metro ride to stadium key for any team in LA . And with Vela ( a baller I've loved for what seems like a decade) signed and a legit MLS DT in Bradley, we can win the league in our first 3yrs. And thats truly the key, I actually will be caring about MLS for the first time ever. Viva LAFC and Visca Barca!

      Its a league system that works for America, but not this Sport. If the new teams were starting in the lower leagues, they'd at least have some history by the time they got to top tier Football, unlike forming and expecting to win the MLS cup straight away.

    • @Caswell19
      @Caswell19 6 років тому +4

      This is the USA, not Europe. Pro/rel wouldn’t work in this country. A team relegated to second division status would die quickly financially. There isn’t enough local support to keep those teams alive. Many MLS teams earn the vast majority of their money because of TV revenue and the second tier wouldn’t get that, so a team would cease to exist.

    • @MrKorppi
      @MrKorppi 6 років тому +2

      What about the already established teams in lower leagues? Should they not be given the opportunity to get to the MLS on merit, not money? Football shouldn't about TV revenue, it's about people's love for the game, and if Americans don't love the game without money (grassroots), their loss; Maybe if the fans weren't so plastic, they'd keep their loyalty when a club gets relegated.

      You'll find that they support the identity of being part of the City of LA. I come from Australia and there's a team in the A-League called the West Sydney Wanderers, they came into the league 7 years after the league had started.A lot of football people who had come from the West of Sydney refused to support the lone Sydney team (Sydney FC) at the leagues foundation due to the supporters feeling disconnected to this team as Sydney FC's game were too far to travel too. A lot of people who live in the west of Sydney had always identified themselves as "Westies" so there has always been a sense of identity being from the West of Sydney rather than being part of the whole of Sydney. Before the Wanderers were formed you'll find there were a lot of supporters for this team before they had come into existence so I find of parallels to the LAFC.

The atmopshere at many MLS stadiums is better than most EPL games... The EPL needs to take notes from the MLS and Bundesliga in regards to the way supporters are treated. Maybe of they allowed safe standing, encouraged participation between supporters groups and the clubs as well as having reasonable season ticket prices we'd have better atmosheres across the league

    StubHub was always too off in a corner of the city to make sense. Hard to get to and sorrounded by a whole lot of nothing.
    Banc of California is smack in the middle next to the Coliseum, sorrounded by museums and across the way from the world renwons University of Southern California. It has three Metro stations within walking distance, access by several city bus lines, and accessible by the 110 and 10 Fwys. PRIME REAL ESTATE!!!

    the simplest way to make relegation and promotion of teams possible is to have a competition in every state, and then you can have the best teams come into eastern/western conference, and so on. because when teams are located in different leagues depending on the budget it is making it harder for smaller teams to come into MLS, and bigger teams know that they can not be relegated because of that

    LA is essentially broken up in half, the city of Los Angeles itself and everything north of downtown and the South Bay, everything south of downtown which include the all beach cities, and cities like Inglewood, Compton, Torrance, Carson etc... LAFC has successfully been adopted by the downtown community, the business side of LA. While The Galaxy represents the South Bay, my community the more laid back side of LA. Often times the South Bay feel left out or forgotten by the downtown community. We all are proud to rep LA as a whole but there huge differences between both sides of town that many people outside of LA don't know of

      Such a tired topic. I only hear Charlie Brown's teacher at this point. Yes, it's an English term short for Association Football. It was used to differentiate itself from Rugby Football. And, yes, it's the primary term Americans use, sometimes not knowing it's actually british. Sometimes Americans use british football terms. Sometimes people prefer to use existing American sports terms in place of the borrowed terms. Either way, Yada, Yada, Yada.

    I think the MLS is messed up by giving LA a second team, MLS should think about building rivalries with close cities that don't like each other, That new LA team should of been San Diego team, The LA vs SD would rival Seattle vs Portland as far being that close and the history of hate and envy between the two cities, Esp now with the former San Diego Chargers and the Clippers calling LA home now
