Last night I couldn't sleep and after watching this video I found an audio book. I listened to the entirety of this work and really enjoyed it. Yes, religion is a big part of this Grimoire, but an early up bringing in a Christian household has left me partial to said religion, even though I am not particularly big on religion. @@ravenravella1000 I've found that on more than one occasion, and with various brands of e-readers too unfortunately. I prefer to have the books themselves in a nicely bound hardback edition if and when they're available anyway so it only serves as another reason to do so is how I look at it. Foolish Fish's very channel shows us just how much effort goes into not only the detail in the binding and the printing but often the combination of materials that support my reasoning for wanting to pay the extra bit in order to own a physical copy, getting the full tactile experience as the author and publishing house have intended for you. Anything less and you're missing out in my experience; some of these books are works of art before you open them and you know you're in for a treat when the exterior printing materials and binding techniques call out to you before you even open the book.

The religious overtones may have been added to protect it FROM extinction BY the Church. From what i know, the basic elements of the system can be applied without regard to the religious aspects, since i think they can be found elsewhere. It's a wonderful book, with or without.....It's one of about 3 i'd take if i could only take that many away with me forever.
Concerning Mars being the prince of peace, he was originally a god of boundaries between properties and fields, and the saying "good fences make good neighbors" can apply here I think, as well as the saying "Si vis pacem, para bellum".
To me, it appears that the Arbatel could be a subversion of the grimoire genre. It almost reads as satire or critique of magick. It barely describes a ritual and says "a true Magus would know how to do this anyway" and "the Spirits will teach you". It gives the seals of the Olympick Spirits, but doesn't state what to do with them. And the names (Aratron, Bethor etc.) appear to be the name of the planets or the offices of the Spirits and not the Spirits themselves - it's not clear. However, I know too many people who have worked the Arbatel for it to be purely a "work of fiction". The Arbatel was first printed in Basel in 1575 - a centre for the Protestant printing press. This is important, because the Arbatel strikes me as deeply Protestant or Calvinist. God is in charge of everything; if you successfully conjure a Spirit, it is only because God allows it. You don't need fancy robes or tools or even a conjuring medium like a crystal - all you need is unwavering faith in God. Pray, and it will be granted to you by grace. The Magus, the rituals and the seals have no power in themselves - they only have the power God gives to them. To be a good Magus is to be a good Christian - it is basically the same thing. And if you have impure intentions, God will send bad Spirits instead. My conclusion so far is that the Arbatel is indeed a true grimoire. But it indirectly critiques the perceived "mechanical" and "unnecessarily complex" nature of other grimoires like the Heptameron. Just worship God, trust in him, and love thy neighbour, and God, the Lord of Spirits, will give you the rest. Again: deeply Calvinist. I also think it is very likely that the other 8 parts were never written, and were never intended to be written. Either they represent the magick "the Spirits will teach you" so you don't need them in a book; it's only a "preview". Or they are mentioned as to say: "There are many different areas of magick, but only the magick in the Isagoge is worth your time, so we wont even talk about the others."
Thank you for this! I had heard of the Arbatel, but didn't know much about it, and had never read it. I just bought a Kindle version, and it looks to be right up my alley! I am an Eastern Orthodox Christian, and also very interested in learning not only mysticism (Orthodoxy has much Mysticism in its belief system), but also magic. I have always seen Biblical / historical Christianity as actually being quite compatible with magic as a practice (even though most Christians and even many occultists would disagree). So I always look for books, teachings, videos, etc, that encompass both while not compromising either Christianity or the art and practice of magic. Looks like the Arbatel is exactly what I'm looking for. Thank you for this!

Since I’m a child of Mars. I can attest to my crazy aggression comes when things aren’t fair. So in a sense, is it the right way to go ? Sometimes it is, because not all people but some people need that punishment or aggression. I believe we are all one and express all attributes of “the creator” I wouldn’t trade my planet for any other for when it’s time to be brave, man oh man it’s a blessing.
Olympic spirit Arathron is fantastic for binding spells. There's a simple way of working with them in a book called 'The Master Works of Chaos Magick'.

I laughed so hard when u mentioned Mars. Being that I’m an Aries I get it. We can bring destruction but we only do so when there is unjust. Being ruled by gevurah , we balance the situation with chesed. By the way, I can be wrong but I think foolish fish is an Aries too. I always got that vibe from him.

I will check it out.I did watch your review on his magicians tables and will be saving up perhaps for that bells and whistles version you recommended of his key to the magic of Solomon. I have two reference books which may be very similar by David Allen Husse.The key of it all books 1 and 2 of the eastern and western mysteries respectively.They are however soft back editions though much of the knowledge seems legitimate.I will however aquire a copy of dr skinners magicians tables. I did however procure a copy of the sixth and seventh books of moses by mr peterson. Again he did not disappoint.
Apologies its David Allen Hulse. On a completely different topic I recommend you also check out both The Golden Atlas and Phantom Atlas by Edward Brooke Hitching.Both are Beautifully illustrated Atlases. They can both be picked up regularly for in around the €15-€30 margin and either are worth it for the beautiful illustrations alone not to mention the detail of information provided. Atlases are not really my thing though to my suprise I adore both.Though I picked them up for my own personal studies they would make a great addition to any book collectors collection.
It may have gentle messages, but those energies will blow you out of the water, if you are not "well-conditioned" energetically, spiritually and neurologically. Side effects are not negative, just POWERFUL! The circular diagram is incorrect, compared to the description of it.

Why is it always called the most optimistic of the grimoires? Just because it doesn't have rituals to get ahold of demon? It's funny cause these are supposed to be helpful spirits, but also come with a warning of if you use them for any means like to attain wealth then they will set traps for you. To me it just seams like the key of solomon without demons. I could be wrong in mu assessment. It is just as doom and gloom for the one that approaches it without reverence like most of them. I never understood why it was always referred to as the most optimistic. Lol
The aphorisms that precede the workings are very light-spirited. There's really none of the dark fluff, pseudo-serious feel that you can get from most of the other grimoires. There's no shock-value here, no 'cause blindness in an enemy' or 'cause women to dance naked before you' - just how to call the spirits and let them teach you what they will. I admit (even) I was disturbed reading in the Most Excellent Booke - a recommendation to whisper in the ear of a dying person that they shall not find peace until their spirit returns to provide somehow the information of where a treasure might be found. I can't remember ever reading anything so insidious or deeply violent for such selfish reasons. None of that in the Arbatel. Just love God, have a chat with the Olympic spirits, maybe learn something from them, put the knowledge to good use. 😄👍Sounds pretty optimistic to me 🌿
Personally, I wouldn't recommend any of the historical grimoires as a good place to start. I collect them to understand the origins and reasoning behind the modern (and far better suited to modern life) practices described by the Gallery of Magick. I just think of them as background reading so I don't end up doing or saying something I'm not comfortable with. Still, saying that, I'd say that the material in the Arbatel is very nice, and if you are going to pursue historical magic rather than 'what works best', then yes, this is as good a place as any to start, mainly due to the simplicity of the working, and the unambiguous, on the whole benevolent nature of the spirits involved.
@@FoolishFishBooks Great, thank you for taking the time. That's really useful information. I used the gallery of Magick cashbook after seeing it mentioned and it did work freakishly accurately. In terms of instructions I altered the wording slightly so that the spirit would not bring harm to me or "any living being" rather than just me and "my loved ones". I think it's really important to consider our words as the standard instructions could potentially be a bit slippery. So with the historical grimoires like this I'll definitely approach it critically even more so. Thank you for letting me know your thoughts on this one. I love the channel it's great.

I can tell you why the fifth book isn't shown to the world. The ruler of the world today would not like us to have the teaching of the druids. Also st patrick credited for running the snakes out of ireland, he was running the native druids away from the island and their symbol was the snake

There are about 4 prayers you can memorize, or read, and then create rituals that are either ultra simple (a Magick Circle, a candle, the spirit's symbol)........or you can elaborate as much as you like with colored candles and lighting, Magick mirror, flowers, altar covers, incense, etc. Be aware that these spirits are VERY powerful and their energy can be very upsetting to a delicate or under-exposed nervous system. Maha Vajra's "The 7 Seals" is good preparation psychologically, spiritually and energetically, to balance and strengthen you. Aratron is considered the most challenging.......Phaleg being no easy picnic either. I am only beginning with them, so i haven't much to offer from direct experience. They can also be super-imposed on other "systems" besides the Arbatel framework, but it just happens to be one of the easiest and simplest. Also, if indeed Karma exists, igniting these energies in your "field" can cause havoc, even though the havoc, if attended to with consciousness, will refine the Magickian. I personally do not believe in Karma. The foundation of the book is Christianized, but may also have been a rousse to cloak it from the church so it might not be destroyed. It is also unique in that it's emphasizes that the greatest results come from using for the betterment and benefit of others. So far, that has worked like a charm for me. * It brought together a very harmonious familial situation, which had been chaotic and dangerous, especially for a child who is in the midst of it. * It made a job / career magnet out of a friend of mine. * Without doing much for myself, my life and state of Being, continues to improve.

I ffind it TOTALLY odd that Peterson didn't pick it up, considering hown brilliant and thorough he is. Why it should be that i'd be the one to solve it is ALSO beyond belief. I will look it up in my papers to give you the correct information. I haven't used the symbol, only the contact with the spirits.........and the Magick DOES work! : ) Peterson is a scholor / professor in the same school system that i have been working in since around 1988....we probably worked on the same campus for awhile. I'm sorry, I don't want to be mean. true power and knowledge does not lie in magic books and the entities you can evoke (which can be dangerous). they are good for you to get an idea of the "science of magic", I don't have any of the so-called important books (I browsed through them a bit). I do magic every day with concrete results. The true power is in you, if you know how magic really works, you no longer need books, no matter how mystical they may be. as an example, I create my own reality and my own spells. and I'm still learning. the power of imagination, faith, emotions plus the knowledge of the subconscious, they really work miracles plus the knowledge of spells
Most of them, but most definitely this one. Very God-centered, actually. Come to think of it, I can't think of any historical grimoires that are, as you put it, 'Satanic'. There are some silly books from the 70's, sure, but nothing anyone would consider 'serious'. Now if by "Satanic" you mean 'dealing with unpleasant, unsociable forces', there are a good few of those, but then is unblocking your toilet "Satanic" work, despite being unpleasant? In any case, this grimoire does not work with unpleasant spirits, quite on the contrary.

Josephine McCrathy says its one of the only good Grimoire since if you only see the first layer it'll filter by itself apprentices that aren't serious

I laughed so hard when u mentioned Mars. Being that I’m an Aries I get it. We can bring destruction but we only do so when there is unjust. Being ruled by gevurah , we balance the situation with chesed. By the way, I can be wrong but I think foolish fish is an Aries too. I always got that vibe from him.

I have two reference books which may be very similar by David Allen Husse.The key of it all books 1 and 2 of the eastern and western mysteries respectively.They are however soft back editions though much of the knowledge seems legitimate.I will however aquire a copy of dr skinners magicians tables.
I did however procure a copy of the sixth and seventh books of moses by mr peterson.
Again he did not disappoint.

On a completely different topic I recommend you also check out both The Golden Atlas and Phantom Atlas by Edward Brooke Hitching.Both are Beautifully illustrated Atlases.
They can both be picked up regularly for in around the €15-€30 margin and either are worth it for the beautiful illustrations alone not to mention the detail of information provided.
Atlases are not really my thing though to my suprise I adore both.Though I picked them up for my own personal studies they would make a great addition to any book collectors collection.

Why is it always called the most optimistic of the grimoires? Just because it doesn't have rituals to get ahold of demon? It's funny cause these are supposed to be helpful spirits, but also come with a warning of if you use them for any means like to attain wealth then they will set traps for you. To me it just seams like the key of solomon without demons. I could be wrong in mu assessment. It is just as doom and gloom for the one that approaches it without reverence like most of them. I never understood why it was always referred to as the most optimistic. Lol
The aphorisms that precede the workings are very light-spirited. There's really none of the dark fluff, pseudo-serious feel that you can get from most of the other grimoires. There's no shock-value here, no 'cause blindness in an enemy' or 'cause women to dance naked before you' - just how to call the spirits and let them teach you what they will.
I admit (even) I was disturbed reading in the Most Excellent Booke - a recommendation to whisper in the ear of a dying person that they shall not find peace until their spirit returns to provide somehow the information of where a treasure might be found. I can't remember ever reading anything so insidious or deeply violent for such selfish reasons.
None of that in the Arbatel. Just love God, have a chat with the Olympic spirits, maybe learn something from them, put the knowledge to good use. 😄👍Sounds pretty optimistic to me 🌿

Hi would you recommend this as a good book to start actually using magic?
Personally, I wouldn't recommend any of the historical grimoires as a good place to start. I collect them to understand the origins and reasoning behind the modern (and far better suited to modern life) practices described by the Gallery of Magick. I just think of them as background reading so I don't end up doing or saying something I'm not comfortable with.
Still, saying that, I'd say that the material in the Arbatel is very nice, and if you are going to pursue historical magic rather than 'what works best', then yes, this is as good a place as any to start, mainly due to the simplicity of the working, and the unambiguous, on the whole benevolent nature of the spirits involved.

I used the gallery of Magick cashbook after seeing it mentioned and it did work freakishly accurately. In terms of instructions I altered the wording slightly so that the spirit would not bring harm to me or "any living being" rather than just me and "my loved ones". I think it's really important to consider our words as the standard instructions could potentially be a bit slippery. So with the historical grimoires like this I'll definitely approach it critically even more so. Thank you for letting me know your thoughts on this one. I love the channel it's great.

@@mr.atlantean8008 : This book will cut your investment in study down to a fraction. There are about 4 prayers you can memorize, or read, and then create rituals that are either ultra simple (a Magick Circle, a candle, the spirit's symbol)........or you can elaborate as much as you like with colored candles and lighting, Magick mirror, flowers, altar covers, incense, etc.
Be aware that these spirits are VERY powerful and their energy can be very upsetting to a delicate or under-exposed nervous system. Maha Vajra's "The 7 Seals" is good preparation psychologically, spiritually and energetically, to balance and strengthen you. Aratron is considered the most challenging.......Phaleg being no easy picnic either. I am only beginning with them, so i haven't much to offer from direct experience.
They can also be super-imposed on other "systems" besides the Arbatel framework, but it just happens to be one of the easiest and simplest.
Also, if indeed Karma exists, igniting these energies in your "field" can cause havoc, even though the havoc, if attended to with consciousness, will refine the Magickian. I personally do not believe in Karma.
The foundation of the book is Christianized, but may also have been a rousse to cloak it from the church so it might not be destroyed. It is also unique in that it's emphasizes that the greatest results come from using for the betterment and benefit of others. So far, that has worked like a charm for me.
* It brought together a very harmonious familial situation, which had been chaotic and dangerous, especially for a child who is in the midst of it.
* It made a job / career magnet out of a friend of mine.
* Without doing much for myself, my life and state of Being, continues to improve.

I ffind it TOTALLY odd that Peterson didn't pick it up, considering hown brilliant and thorough he is. Why it should be that i'd be the one to solve it is ALSO beyond belief. I will look it up in my papers to give you the correct information. I haven't used the symbol, only the contact with the spirits.........and the Magick DOES work! : ) Peterson is a scholor / professor in the same school system that i have been working in since around 1988....we probably worked on the same campus for awhile. Now i am way downstate in New York, but at different campus, same University. Will get back to you very soon.

I'm sorry, I don't want to be mean. true power and knowledge does not lie in magic books and the entities you can evoke (which can be dangerous). they are good for you to get an idea of the "science of magic", I don't have any of the so-called important books (I browsed through them a bit). I do magic every day with concrete results. The true power is in you, if you know how magic really works, you no longer need books, no matter how mystical they may be. as an example, I create my own reality and my own spells. and I'm still learning. the power of imagination, faith, emotions plus the knowledge of the subconscious, they really work miracles plus the knowledge of spells
So how do I learn?
I suppose magick is real, however is there any non-satanic grimmoires as well ?
Most of them, but most definitely this one. Very God-centered, actually.
Come to think of it, I can't think of any historical grimoires that are, as you put it, 'Satanic'. There are some silly books from the 70's, sure, but nothing anyone would consider 'serious'. Now if by "Satanic" you mean 'dealing with unpleasant, unsociable forces', there are a good few of those, but then is unblocking your toilet "Satanic" work, despite being unpleasant? In any case, this grimoire does not work with unpleasant spirits, quite on the contrary.
I had to return this one and get the condensed version. It had too many christian overtones, so many I could not meld with the meaning, etc.

No this one's actually from 1575. Not super old, but still older than 19th c.
