honestly listening to this soundtrack and looking at the background makes me think one day i hope we can make a game that is exactly like this in the style of life is strange or tell tale games but the plot is about growing up the kid.
Richard is just such a cinnamon bun honestly. Imagine him watching How To Train Your Dragon with Wendy though. Not exactly Wendy's cut of beef, though i'm sure she'd enjoy the movie anyway, (plus i can't see Richard sitting through a slasher with Wendy) but i'm sure Richard would love the soundtrack. Honestly, John Powell is an underappreciated master of his craft. The way he weaves Toothless' and Hiccup's Leitmotifs together at the end of Test Flight is true musical genius (and yes, i know i sound like Richard rn)
Y'all ever have a game that you enjoyed when you first play through it and, the more you think about it afterwards, the more you end up appreciating it? Cuz that's how I feel about Growing Up. I got all the achievements for the game, so I basically saw everything it had to offer. I even figured out my own sneaky way to create my own sort of "panic saves" in case I wanted to explore something with a character. I think the only characters I didn't have an ending with when I got the last achievement were Sam and Richard. Anyways, the more I think about the game and its writing, the more I appreciate it. Especially characters like Alyssa, Flick, and Alex. While they are archetypes of high schoolers, all of their stories separate them from being generic. Especially Flick (Spoilers ahead for her story). Something I find fascinating about Flick's story is its darker themes. Usually, a story like hers would focus heavily on her eating disorder, as that's a very real thing people like her go through. But what I find interesting about the storyline is that her eating disorder isn't really meant to be representative of an actual eating disorder. Bare with me for a moment. I don't think Flick is actually anorexic, but rather her eating disorder is a form of self harm. My proof of this is a single line she says to the MC when prodded about why she doesn't eat very much. In a fit of anger, she slams the table and shouts that she "just wants to be in control of something." While I have never self harmed, I've friends who have in the past. This tended to be their explanation behind it. Flick's life is spiraling out of control in her eyes. Her brother's health is failing, her mother is too focused on growing her brand as a talk show host to give him much time, among other things. Not to mention how Flick is never able to really be herself, except for when she's around the MC. I think it's a really good use of sensitive topics to further demonstrate a character's inner and outer struggles. I just wish we could have seen her talking with her friends from Cheer more often in order to better demonstrate her different manners of speaking when around them, versus being alone with the MC. If you pay attention, when Flick gets passionate about something, she sort of drifts into what I can only describe as a "string of consciousness" style of talking. She'll just verbalize how she's feeling without a filter. Its a nothing, much healthier, way of her taking control.
@Thomas Eastman I'm a 90s kid by technicality alone (Noone would seriously class 1999 as a 90s kid), and accordingly i was in primary school during the 2000s.
As someone born in the year 2000, it makes me feel nostalgic too. Honestly, I think a lot of the nostalgia comes from simply growing older, making friends, and trying to figure out life.

Didn't think I deserved any better
No simple escape from the past
My muscles were sore from the weight that bore on my back
But you banished the shadows
When you opened the door
The light flooded in and I wasn't so scared anymore
So now I'll rattle the demons and make them afraid
And I will shout "Grant me ten paces"
And they'll draw arms whichever they choose
It might not shine but I'll defend what's mine
Cause this may be the one fight I can't lose
Thought that nothing could catch me
Thought that I was too fast
But you were beside me and I guess stood still at last
One day I was the monster hiding under the bed
Next I was slayed by the words I replayed in my head
So now I'll rattle the monsters and make them afraid
And I will shout "Grant me ten paces"
And they'll draw arms whichever they choose
It might not shine but I'll defend what's mine
Cause this may be the one fight I can't lose
This may be the one fight I can't lose
And you may be the one fight I can't lose
