Imagine feeling exhilarated that you saved the day- only to feel the crushing grief at the sight of your family's bodies seconds later.
Yeah. This scene got to me as a kid, I found it so sad.
Interesting, they give this incarnation of Robin
- Dick Grayson's name and most of his backstory
- A little of Jason Todd's backstory
- A Robin suit that resembles Tim Drake's
Yep...these films actually gave pretty nice details
Ge@r&@rcher
Oh yeah he's like a combination of all the other robins which is awesome. Would have liked to see how brutal he was in a serious legit sequel. I would guess he'd be more like jason todd.
He's jason todd with dick's story and tim's suit.
Or his BTAS costume.
Tim drake does not have green in his at all.
Looking back, this movie is super silly, but this scene is actually really sad and done really well. You can really feel the family connection the Graysons have and how good hearted they are and when Dick loses them you can feel how empty he suddenly is
That’s why it’s bad. It was dark and serious in some parts and absolutely goofy in other parts. Hard to dictate what kind of movie I’m watching
@@nunka34ifyblame WB after Returns.
@@scottylewis8124 Not just WB, but also those bratty kids and their parents. They should’ve known the movie wasn’t for kids, it for teenager and adult
@@JamesBrady-qc6zy I dunno', I mean when I was a kid I watched Batman 89' and Batman & Robin and thought they along with Batman TAS that I use to watch on Jetix were pretty enjoyable than the Nolan trilogy since I mean I love both the Batman cartoons and the movies lol.
I like the little addition of the whole circus troupe gathering around the Graysons lifeless bodies at the end. It shows that not only was it hard on Robin but all of them as well since they are one big family.
One even takes his hat off 😣
agree with you. small details but really add the sadness to the scene💔
ahh the origin of the (25 year old) boy wonder. Who thought it was a good idea for batman to adopt a fully grown man?
Bat Mannington uh i'm pretty sure this robin character was around the age 16 17
He could pass for a teenager
Bat Mannington well in the comics he was like 10 when this happened so it was more emotional.
He doesn't look 17 he looks like a 25 year old guy.
R.A.s Reviews yah i think chris o donnell was 23 24 25 when he did this movie so
The cinematography is really well done. When the three Graysons fall to their deaths, I love the zoom in on Bruce's eyes. I don't think people give this movie a fair chance.
No question!
It’s a hell of a much better film than that Godawful POS we got after this movie
This was the only serious element of a film you could otherwise not take seriously.
The audio is totally distracting though
@@silvervalleystudios2486 disagree, the parts where Bruce remembers his parents' murder and funerals is pretty heavy too.
Say what you want about this film. I loved it as a kid. Not every depiction of batman is intended for mature audiences. Now as an almost 30 year old, Matt Reeves The Batman is far and way my favorite interpretation but Val Kilmers batman will always hold a special place in my heart
Kilmer was one of the most faithful Batmen
I feel the same about Batman and Robin. It's considered the worst Batman movie but man the nostalgia for me is real. Also it's so funny even as an adult
Yeah I understand that.
Val Kilmer is definitely one of the most compassionate interpretations of Batman.
His batman I feel doesn't get the respect it deserves
I still have this on VHS with the official Two-Face coin that came with it.
Fear57 Neat
Fear57 What's your address? I just want to... "look" at that coin
It looks exactly like the on screen version. There's a Two-Face action figure still in package with the coin as well for about $14. The back of it is all scratched as shown on screen as well.

Yep....I got that action figure that had gun wielding two-face and the coin
Fear57 sell it for a million dollars
4:25 - 4:55 One of the saddest and darkest moments of the entire Batman film franchise.
BETTER than whatever TF Titans is doing
Good body wasted on that perfect suit
Never realized how dark and sad this scene was as a kid until now.
@@bobbyestep3916 Although Batman Forever was lighter. It was still a very dark movie and it had it's dark moments. Dick Grayson losing his family. Dick's dark desire to avenge his family. Bruce's PTSD. Bruce forced to relieve the death of his parents and what led him to becoming Batman when he tells Chase the truth. Edward Nygma's loneliness and succumbing to madness when Bruce Wayne rejects him and his invention The Box driving him to become The Riddler. I like how the movie balanced the drama and the comedy. Some scenes should have been kept in. Particularly when Bruce goes deeper into the now destroyed Batcave and again coming face to face with the giant bat that inspired him to become Batman. Tommy Lee Jones' Two-Face was over-the-top because I believe Harvey Dent became like The Joker, the very criminal Dent and Batman fought against in Gotham City. Kind of like Anakin Skywalker in Star Wars. Become the evil he fought against as a Jedi.
So Two-Face and his men never questioned why Bruce, a generally reserved billionaire, had great fighting skills when they were trying to find out who Batman was and knew he was amongst the crowd? You would think they would have made him a prime suspect after that night.
Every Billionaire is a black belt in Pilates and Boxercise.
I didn't know any guy with a slight training was Batman.
@gor9027 Two-Face was kinda distracted with his big villain speech and killing the Flying Graysons at the time.
Actually to me the real hero's were the Dying Graysons, though they perished,& Dick who got rid of that bomb.& people gotta try to remember, it wouldn't take for Batman to recruit an 8 -10 year old kid like in the comics, wouldn't make sense on film.this Robin made sense being grown, specially when he fought the street gang.
Remember, Harvey knows Bruce. He probably saw Bruce do some karate back when they were friends.
I’m surprised that Harvey doesn’t figure out Bruce is Batman in this scene. Even if he didn’t hear Bruce yell at him, Harvey clearly sees him swinging on a rope to get to two of his henchmen at 3:12.
Can we just overlook Robin's age here and acknowledge that this is actually one of the better parts of the movie? 😂
Chris O’Donnell was the same age as Tobey Maguire when he did his first spider-man movie. If I can suspend my disbelief then I can do it now. He a good Robin origin in this film.
No one complained that a 24 year old, Tom Welling was playing a high school version Clark Kent.
2:15 I get that Dent couldn’t hear him, but good god do no one else hear him?! Surely the people behind him or Meridian heard?!?
4:06 Somedays you just can't get rid of a bomb
As a kid, I found 2:12-2:17 rather funny because Bruce Wayne basically gives himself away as Batman to Two-Face, but, nobody hears him say it & it's like "So much for that idea...".
Whilst the classic comic death for the Graysons has been done well (sabotage by a mafia racket), I prefer this one. It makes the events more dynamic, ties Bruce/Batman into the events, and also shows off the character for the Graysons in that they didn't hesitate to jump in and save the day.
1:44 his laugh🤣
Kevin Garcia And him eating popcorn 🍿 right after while watching this horror unfold. 😂
Loved the dark humor.
In the comics Dick Grayson was a pre-teen when his parents were killed, much like Bruce, and started his career as Robin soon after. Here Dick's age is left vague but implied he is or at least approaching college age. Batman: The Animated Series (1992) did something similar, except making him the same age as when his parents were killed but a college aged adult in the present stories (which, by that time, he had taken up the name Nightwing.)
In the TV show with Adam West he Robin was called the "teenage sidekick" and was 16
He had to be at least 16 to be performing without a net or the circus would be shut down for child endangerment.
This is one of the saddest scenes in the whole movie sad seeing Dicks family falling like that.😔
Even tho it was a bad idea casting a grown man to play robin I love how you can definitely feel Batman’s empathy of someone losing his family
When I was a kid I didn't understand the story but when I got older I find this scene very heartbroken 💔
1:09 Crazy how a lot of people nowadays would enjoy watching a live hostage situation, they would find it entertaining.
And try to capture it on their smartphones.
4:39 He looks up and sees a kindred soul
Jim’s Laughing like he’s watching SNL. 😂
I feel the scene could have been pulled off more dramatically and nail-biting if Two-Face (if played by Christopher Walken) teamed with the Joker (Jack Nicholson) had chained Bruce Wayne (if either played by Michael Keaton or Val Kilmer) to the bomb as a means of a test if Batman would come to the rescue, but the Graysons of course save him and get rid of the bomb, but at the cost of their lives where Dick Grayson could only manage to grab Bruce from falling to his death.
Very heartbreaking but yes I agree that would have been much more dramatic.
@@Phoenix-cs9pm Thanks for your response. P.S. Do you think Tommy Lee Jones would have been a great Commissioner Gordon instead?
Yes but half of your cast of characters are dead at this point.
It's a shame Joel Schumacher made a faithful origin for so many characters, while other directors, the "beloved ones", not even accomplished that.
3:56 - Holy shit, Robin can lift an orb with 200 sticks of TNT with a single hand lmao.
I know this movie is pretty silly and over the top but when I was a little kid this was so damn tragic and sad.
No matter how bad the movie might've been, I'll never forget this scene
It was shot like a fever dream. Very relatable and terrifying for a kid.
The green robin spandex suit is hot too
*This movie is awesome, no idea what you're talking about.*
Chris O' Donnell was the best Robin ever.
And sexy too :)
Brenton Thwaites has taken over
DCU Fanboy I was just about to comment this😂
@@RShadow12 You know your shit mate
HE WAS THE ONLY ROBIN EVER!!!!
i actually really like the fact that bruce gave up his secret so quickly here.
a true hero sacrifices himself for the greater good, and this is why it works here imo
0:56 I love the way he said Bring it on.
When Robin was introduced in the comics in 1940,he didn‘t have a brother when he lost his parents.
In all Comics he never had a Brother
@@yahuyuah it an added change.
@@yahuyuah the movie never says it is his brother, maybe it's his boyfriend. He moved in with Bruce after all.
1:44 Omg that laugh is so fricken priceless!
Damn, 2:32 Bruce snaps the dude's neck!
Nothing against Chris O Donnell, but they really should've pushed for somebody younger than him. Maybe 14-16 years of age would be a fitting match for a hero that goes by 'The Boy Wonder'.
I don't know how anyone can say this movie was awful, when they have such strong scenes like this with the Flying Graysons sacrificing themselves to save the people.
That poor little boy. Losing his parents at such a young age of...30 or so...
I hope Matt Reeves squeezes in a little reference to Dick Grayson or something along the lines that Nolan did when he introduced the Joker at the end of Batman Begins.
So Bruce and Robin are the same age..
1:45 Jim carrys laugh hahaha
Val kilmer underated Batman
Two Face is like the Joker now
What if Dick Grayson’s brother became Nightwing.
Chris O'Donnell was so on point! Dang!
That doesn't look like big enough of a fall to kill them. They might have broken a few bones but surely professionals like themselves know how to land in a way that minimizes their injuries.
It even shows them doing that while they fall, spinning to minimize the damage
Val Kilmer was actually a good Batman but George Clooney was a different Story....
Bruce risked it all in a heartbeat 💯
Harvey! I’m Batman!
Then fights as Bruce Wayne
Such a cool, heartbreaking scene
What a top flick! Just makes you want to get a big bucket of popcorn and big coke. Definitely the last true blockbuster in my eyes.
The weird thing on this scene is that Harvey was the only villain (in ALL movies) smart enough for try to find Batman between the richiest people of Gotham.
I love the way tommy lee jones unfolds his hand to see the coin and the reaction he creates
the sound Dr Chase makes when she's in bed 4:01 - 4:02
okay but the way bruce says it but no one can hear him is kinda heart breaking he tried to reveal it but couldnt
Its quite ironic that Tommy Lee Jones bashed Jim Carrey for being a "buffoon". But TLJ overacts even more than JC in this film lol
Pretty hypocritical.
He did that to try and upstage Jim Carrey
He hated working with Jim Carrey
4:30 (Batman looks at the ceiling as Dick Grayson mourns his entire family after Harvey kills them)
To save everyone: "Harvey. I'm Batman!" Then the Flying Graysons take initiative. Great scene.
KJ Apa as Archie Andrews
Casey Cott as Kevin Keller

For 24 years since batman forever was released in theaters they Dick Grayson played by Chirs Odonnell I wish he could've let a fart out to stink it up in the circus scene
I feel deeply sorry for Robin
I was only 3 when this came out but I remember this part so much, not the details but it's amazing what sticks in your mind. I love the campy-ness of these Batman films. Always will!
Not everything in Batman Forever is bad, i always liked the art design for Gotham, and Batman's gadgets. This scene here is also a good one.
2:16 yeah, good luck getting two-face to hear you over all that crying and shouting from THAT distance.
Honestly just bad timing. Sadly got lost in the crowd... or I guess a good thing?
0:55 as of today im wondering how the audience to the right didnt notice the purple markings on his face
Yeah, I'd be pissed if someone crashed my talent show act and killed my loved ones
I’m doing my own version of this scene, (in novel form of course) where it’s Harley Quinn crashes the circus. But I did my own fan casting where Michael Keaton comes back for the role, Dick Grayson is played by Leonardo DiCaprio, Chris O’Donnell as Tim Drake, Billy Dee Williams as Two Face, Robin Williams as The Riddler, (I got some of Tim Burton’s casting choices as well for continuity), and Nicole Kidman as Harley Quinn, but adopts the name of Dr. Meridian, the daughter of Joker, and she knows that Bruce Wayne is Batman. The title I chose for my story is called Batman Unhinged, because in this version, Harley Quinn kills Alfred so she can break Bruce Wayne and Batman.
Lando Calrissian as Two-face? (still a better option than getting Agent K over there)
@@demonking86420 Billy Dee Williams played Harvey Dent in the first two Batman films.
@@estanislaowvega9482 yeah I know

This is one of my favorite movies of all time. The unintentional humor is unmatched. Prime example 1:45
Mayor: “What the hell do you want, Harvey?!”
Two-Face: “Want, Mr. Mayor? This isn’t about what I want, IT'S ABOUT WHAT'S FAIR! You all thought that we could be decent people in an indecent time! Well, you were wrong. The world is cruel. And the only morality in a cruel world…” 🪙 “…is chance. Unbiased. Unprejudiced. Fair. Everyone in this circus tent has the same chance that Gilda had: 50/50.”
Would have been better if this were added to your take, "Don't call us that!! Our name is Two-Face and don't make us tell you twice!!!
I hate how Two Face in this movie went from the guy that nearly killed Batman and everyone in the room with a bomb to the guy who couldn’t even talk in his own home.
4:01 4:02 the horrified way Nicole Kidman looked to the bottom like that was perfect 👍🏻
2:14 Harvey *points at random goon* He’s Batman!

Poor Richard. I can't imagine what it must be like to lose your entire family in one fell swoop, let alone in such a horrible way.
