I live near Moab and have a similar ecosystem nearby. Im going to take care to be more careful around potholes. I had no clue.

I really wish I could give this more than one like! The production value is great and the information about all the different types of species living in ephemeral pools really offers a rounded introduction to the life of these micro systems.

I’m so thankful that UA-cam randomly recommend this! This was one of the most interesting things I have seen in a while.
I spent about 2 years living at a place called Bullfrog Marina near Lake Powell, Utah, and it was so marvelous. I fell in love with the glorious desert out there. I long to go back some day. That was 21 years ago.

Saw a quote from Dr. Graham at the Arches National Park visitors' center about potholes, and I was super interested. It's great to see more knowledge here!

Most interesting. I was aware of them but you showed me much more detail. Thank you. You may also know about the African Killifish, Nothobranchius furzeri, when it rains and fills wet areas the young grow quickly to adulthood and reproduce. When the drought returns the embryos stay in the dry holes in a diapause state until the rains come again. Nature is amazing.

To avoid over tourism avoid Jeep Week, Easter week and the summer.
Stunning geography and geology. Think of mountain biking at Dead Horse Point. BLM Horsethief is a great place to stay. The Swell area has many of the same features but fewer visitors.
Remember, Utah fights Federal Public Lands such as Bears Ears.

Bottom line is, these creatures are alive, and as far as we know the only life in our solar system, possibly in the universe. So I think all life in any form should be preserved and learned.

Interesting, there is a channel named finleyholiday who has the exact video as this with way more views posted a day ago. They seem to post a lot of Moab stuff as well. Hopefully they are another one of your channels? Just wanted to let you know!

did i miss how they got there in the first place? like how all the pot holes were originally seeded with the strictly aquatic life? have they all been there since the inland sea disappeared 66 million years ago?

Notice the dragonfly… Notice the three stages of survival… Notice the shrimp… Notice the comment on worth… Notice the comment “That everything is connected” … Notice the comment that “we don’t understand it”… In short, watch this repeatedly. Watch this until you find that this is LIFE. Of which, we are but a part of that LIFE. That that LIFE is a part of us. Get past the ‘science’ into the ‘WHY’ of that LIFE. Of your LIFE. Meditate on the interconnectedness of LIFE. Once you connect to that, you connect to LIFE. Then discuss SOIL. Discuss the inter connectivity’s of LIFE and SOIL. WE ALL come from the SOIL, feed & live upon the SOIL and will return to the SOIL. Have the conversation while you are above the SOIL. The worms and microbes could care less. The TIME is now. The TIME to end POVERTY is hidden in this video. And if you care about LIFE or TIME or WHY or SOIL or POVERTY or SURVIVAL… If you SEEK to know more better what you want to understand more well, YOU have to do the work. If you get this, let’s talk. Click my handsome face, subscribe and JOIN the conversation. #SaveSoil

Tim Graham is the father of my best friend, and he’s just as awesome IRL as he appears to be in this video. If you think he seems damn cool, it’s because he is.

I won’t go near Moab! In the 1960s it was a wonderful place! Now, just a tourist trap!
