On the 2006 the belt routing is a little different and the breaker bar loosens the other way. Thanks for this video, replacing an alternator struggling and didn't think about removing the air box. Thank you.You absolutely rule.
You did a great job with this video. You spoke clearly and had great camera angles with just the right amount of detailed instruction along with the correct socket sizes you will need. It doesn't get much better than this. Thanks.
Thank you so much for this! I followed your steps exactly and am back up and running! It took me a while but nothing like that feeling when you conquer a task! Thanks again.
I don’t own this vehicle, I just did the job on it. So I don’t have one of these cars readily available to just record content on it unfortunately. But if I ever have the opportunity to do the job, I would most definitely make a video of it!
@@TheOriginalBeeCee I really appreciate it! I'm just struggling trying to figure out what's making the car stall/speedometer jump while stopped/in park.
Got ya! Could be a variety of things honestly. I would maybe have it professionally evaluated and get it narrowed down. Throwing parts at a car & playing the guessing game can be an expensive game to play. Automotive diagnostic can be tricky, and sometimes its worth spending the $100 to get it diagnosed by a professional who’s equipped to do so and/or has experience with the particular platform. Then once you got your answer, you can always actually do the job yourself!
What specific pulley would be causing my belt to not spin? Also would the belt not spinning cause the car to overheat or is that something else causing it to overheat?
It really could be any pulley that could be frozen….causing it not to spin. The belt needs to be taken off and it needs to be evaluated, because all anyone can do without looking at it is speculate. Most common to lock up would be A/C compressor or the tensioner. But alternators can lock up, etc. Got to get the belt off if it isn’t already ripped off, and attempt to spin all the pulleys and see whats going on.
@@TheOriginalBeeCee what’s taking the belt off going to do? Just seems like taking the belt off isn’t going to solve anything. The belt has a couple burn spots on it so that tells me the belt could snap anytime now. How could it be any of the pulleys causing it to fault out ? Do all pulleys play a part in spinning the belt?
Just wondering if you've had any problems with the belt walking half way off from alternator down through the tensioner, lower idler, waterpump and to the crank pulley. I've replaced the water pump, both idler pulleys and the tensioner and it still walks half way off
Actually bro I took it apart and I didn't have the same build I have a motor mount there that's bracketed into my engine and there was a bolt I couldn't reach@@TheOriginalBeeCee
Not sure what you’re referring too exactly, as I only did the job on this car…I don’t own it. I could provide you my email though if you’d like and you can send me some pics of what you’re referring too and I could probably give some insight
I have a 2007 Pontiac g6 gt instead of a torsion mount I had to jack up my engine and take off the engine mount to get the belt off I might cry because my tension pulley just went out going to have to do this process over again 😭
i need help identifying a part in this video. at about 5:10, when you are talking about releasing the tensioner..........directly to the right of that is something with a triangular cover and a wire coming off of it. what is that part? its directly below the power steering reservoir/pump.
Every bolt does have a torque spec. And ideally, I do like torquing everything to spec....and it’s definitely best practice. Personally, I couldn’t source the torque spec for it, so I just tightened it by hand. You can most definitely get away without torquing it to spec, as you can feel it while tightening by hand...however if you have access to the correct torque spec(s) I’m always a fan of torquing!
@@TheOriginalBeeCee for sure! It definitely is hard to find just information on the vehicle itself. I've been trying to compile a spread sheet of every inch of the car, not only to have a better understanding, but also to help out everyone else. Especially when it comes to repairs
Hey what’s up....wish I could be of more help, but I’m not familiar with the 4 cylinder setup. Best suggestion I could give is...just pop the hood and check it out. If you find the belt tensioner, you most likely can do it. You can watch this video to get an idea of how the belt tensioner functions. Once you find the tensioner, I would take some pictures of the belt routing so you know exactly how its supposed to be routed, and you really could take it off and re-install just from that. I’m sure you’ll find a similarity or two from this video. And just for reference, 4 cylinders aren’t referred to as “v4”. 4 cylinders are “i4”..standing for “inline 4”. You can refer to it as i4 or simply just 4cyl.

Nice! Glad it helped!
About to try it on mine right now it’s due time anyway
You're a livesaver!!! Was replacing my alternator on my 08 pontaic G6 and couldn't figure out why the belt was so loose, thank you for the diagram 🎉
No problem, glad you got it situated 🙏

Great how to video! You made it so easy for me to change the belt. Thanks so much!
Awesome! Glad to hear!!!!
Such a great job you left me with no questions.

Thank goodness someone told me about that hole in the side of the tensioner. Had me stumped.
Hey what goes in that little reservoir by the alternator belt on the top "black reservoir cap boxy look to it"
Power steering fluid, that is the PS pump!
I would LOVE it if you would post a video on how to replace a tensioner pulley for the serpentine belt on a 2009 Pontiac G5 GT!

Does this applied to the 3.9L as well?
I’m personally not sure if it’s the same or not.

I’m not sure to be honest, its hard to see. And this isn’t my vehicle, i just did the job on it, and its been a while lol.
How difficult was the water pump?
Not a hard job. Just cleaning everything up from one leaking is usually the most tedious part.
thanks
Just curious does the engine torque strut have to be torqued down my a certain amount?

Can you bypass the compressor pulley with a smaller belt?
Yea you definitely could, but trying to figure out the size wouldn’t be too fun. Def going to be some trial and error trying to figure it out.
