I'm a northeast girl from India who used to study in Punjab for 5 years. And whenever I booked a cab to go to the airport or market I would always feels more safe when the driver is wearing turban. First impression I also kind of intimidating by their looks with long beard and their knife which they carrying everywhere but after I know about their culture I find it very interesting and impressed. Sikh are the most humble and kind people in India.
When they said that they refuse to put another community under the bus even if it makes it harder for them... I felt that. Y'all don't owe us anything, and yet you only show us solidarity and kindness and humanity. I respect you a lot.
The thing is although it might seem like they were saying it for the camera, that's not the case. That's how the Sikh people really are. Here in India, we might be fighting among our differences all day, but when a Sikh guy comes in, no matter what part of the country he is in , he is treated with respect. And rightfully so. The Sikh are one of the kindest yet powerful people to walk on this planet. They were warriors akin to the Vikings. Yet so humble and gentle. Arguably the best and bravest people of India. Am saying this as a Malayali Christian living in Kerala. Which is like kilometres away from Punjab, making Sikhs almost similar to foreigners to us. But they hold special place in our hearts. No doubt.
As an Asian-American going through the racism of the Coronavirus right now, this has inspired me. "I'm not Chinese," is not an acceptable answer in the face of racism.
Seriously. As an African American experiencing racism from Asians during coronavirus, I NEVER respond with, "I'm not African." Because the thing is I'm in this together with Africans. It isn't that Asians are hateful towards AFRICANS, it's that they're hateful towards BLACK PEOPLE. Even if I did say, "I'm not African", y'all wouldn't give a fuck anyway.
Chinese people are forcing black people out of their homes in China and kicking them out of the country because they say black people are dirty and we're spreading the coronavirus. Forget about the fact that the virus STARTED in China and there are BARELY any cases in Africa - racism trumps facts. I would NEVER in a million years say to no Asian, "Oh I'm not African. Leave me out of it." cuz I'm not throwing Africans under the bus like that - EVER. It's Asians versus US, not Asians versus THEM.
@@FlowerTower People always pointed fingers on others who are different... Even some Jewish got blamed for corona. I think blaming African mostly happens in China, not all Asian countries blamed it on African, as you already pointed out that it first happen in China, and not even in the African community. Most countries in Asia solely blame it to the Chinese mainland people like in Hongkong. I even witnessed a fellow Chinese-Indonesian being racist toward Chinese mainland due to fear of Corona. Not like I condone it tho. But I think it will be harder for those people who are kicked out of China, because now people are suspicious to everyone who just come back from China, whether they are Chinese or not, or Asian or not.

The “turban” that we, the Sikh wear, symbolises “standing apart from the crowd”. It is a way to make sure the people around us know that there is a Sikh around. The meaning behind this is simple : it’s our core value to help anyone, ANYONE, in need. We simply cannot walk away from it. And this is a known fact by many communities around the world. That is why our spiritual leaders taught us to wear Turbans (amongst other telling signs for a Sikh) so that if anyone is ever in trouble in any region, they can always look out for a Sikh and approach them for help.

They absolutely should explain to people when people are wrong, that doesn't mean saying anything bad about another group.
Chris Allum It isn’t too much about making people like Muslims, it’s mostly about not using Muslims as some sort of stepping tool to acquire more respect from Americans. I know this isn’t the best analogy, but I’ll compare it to the likes of “pick me” girls. They act normal and respectful to their girl-friends until a guy they’re interested in comes over. That’s when the pick me girl starts throwing her friends under the bus and devaluing traditionally feminine interests in the hopes of gaining the approval of the guy.

Shit. I'm sorry this happens to you. Just remember there are sane people who reject this shit and who stand with you.
@William Shakespeare At the same time, though, saying we should all be "the same" has its problems too.
They just use Corona as an excuse to express hatred towards people who are different/they don't like and actually innocent.

@Ulimi Ulabi Sikhism occur because the founder guru Nanak got an idea to fuse 2 religion into one. To make peace between muslim & hindu at that time, but his mission fail and just created the third religion in India.
I was doing some work in a Sikh guy's house and while I'm an atheist, I had never heard of the Sikh religion at the time and was curious about it. So I was talking to the guy and he showed me his shrine and broke it all down for me.
