    Sorry, but I had to laugh about this video. This is exactly the kind of situations I often find myself in. I have plants that I've owned for 30 or 40 years. Repotting is crazy! I just repotted a large philodendron that was hung up on the pot just like that...but the pot was thick, heavy pottery. It almost killed me! I'm almost 69 years old...getting too old for this chit! 😂 Your garden is beautiful!

      😄🤣 It's always an adventure repotting giant plants. Luckily it seems the larger they get, the less frequently they need it.

    Hi Jeff! OMGolly, I was holding my breath through a lot of this and was rooting for you! Kudos, job well done! Where there's a will there's a way. You in the pot was priceless! LOL! That really showed the size of the pot. I read all of the comments and am so glad that you didn't hurt yourself, and that you had help standing by, if needed. I saw that you went plant shopping, too, and filled 3 carts. I'm looking forward to that video. It was nice seeing Charlie, Cosmos and Pumpkin. Toby and Turbo must have been sleeping. How is Diego doing? Thank you so much for sharing!

    I dont know if this would work but I would have put the soil in and then cut a circle of cardboard to wedge in on top of it to keep it in place while you tip the pot on its side. The root ball would sit on top of the cardboard, but it would break down fairly quickly. Not sure it would stay in place with all the rolling, but worth a try next time maybe? Oh, and next time ask for help!!!! I was worried for you! Kudos for you patience though... I would have been swearing, or crying or both 😄

    That was definitely an adventure. Looks like me trying to take on a bigger project I’m not quite sure how I’ll get it done other than just tackling it head on and doing it. You gave me the pointers for the 15 ft foxtail palm I need to repot. I missed seeing Turbo, the little rascal, today.

    • @TropicalPlantParty
      @TropicalPlantParty  2 роки тому

      Really was an adventure. Yeah I could have spent a lot of time planning something out to make it go more smoothly. But that would have required tools, lumber etc and taken a lot longer. Sometimes it's easier to just do it the hard way and get it done.

  • @michaelmccarthy4077

    A day late and a dollar short to give you some advice to make it easier. You might have been able to put a car jack under the trunk near the base and used it to lift the root ball off the ground to let you get the pot on easier. Wouldn't have aided in lifting it, though, that's where you need a second person or a pulley. Also, glad it wasn't me having to do that.😉

    • @Unpotted
      @Unpotted 2 роки тому

      I might have tried putting a couple of 2x4s in the pot, then rolling the rootball onto them and lifting the ends to slide it down into the pot.
      I realize that might be difficult to picture in your mind, but I think it would work. 😺✌️

    • @TropicalPlantParty
      @TropicalPlantParty  2 роки тому

      😆 that would have probably helped in some kind of way. Rolling it into the pot worked fine though, standing it back up, that was more difficult, but only took 3 tries. Could have been worse, and it was fun.

      😅 back and everything were totally fine. I'm just grateful to be able to do these sorts of things again. Way behind on my playlist, but life...
    Is there no way to use a jack or something to "lift" the palms trunk so it's base is off the ground? Couple bags of soil or mulch under it every few feet or something? Still leaves the fun & games of getting it vertical again, but just a thought.
    We got 6.5" of rain on Monday and we have green grass again! No (major) flooding too close to me, although there are pockets of damage all over north texas. But green grass means I need to start mowing the grass again. Boo! Lol.
    Back to the playlist on 1.5-2x speed to play catchup.

    Maybe you should of like put a decomposing thing above the 5 inches of soil and then kind of attached it to the bottom somehow then the soil may have not slipped out and a couple of friends' a rented small lifting bulldozer lol just don't hurt yourself Jeff ok but that was a job huh but doing it alone scared me. Knowing me I would just leave it lol, because lifting is like oh a great challenge your tropical plants are beautiful though I guess we all love them.

    This video had me laughing my ass off. Only because I went thru the same thing a couple of days ago. What I do for large pots is I go to Lowe's and buy the hard plastic whiskey barrel water garden liners for 20$ and drill drainage holes in the bottom...if you care about how it looks all u gotta do is buy some spray paint and paint it any way you wanna, you can also buy stencils for a more decorative look and they last quite awhile...all of my 8ft+ tall flowering tropical trees are planted in them...the bottoms are broad and makes it harder to tip over...i also use plastic 55gal drums cut in half...they are indestructible
