Ich habe meine heutige Frau das erste mal mit einem Godfathers T-Shirt gesehen und mich sofort verliebt , wir sind bis heute ( 30 Jahre) ein Paar .. Danke Godfathers, eure Songs sind für die Ewigkeit
Just heard this song in the fantastic film "Permanent Record" (1988). Might be Keanu Reeves' best performance in a film about a guy trying to cope with his best friend's death and what he knew and didn't know about his friend and what he could have done to save him. A very well-told moving film with a music score by Joe Strummer.
someone REALLY dropped the ball with these guys. They should have been SO MUCH BIGGER. They had it all: lyrics, riffs, looks, edginess...what happened?
Grunge & Nirvana happened.. Plus the baggy rave thing.. No one wanted to be looking like middle managers in suits from C&A.. don't underestimate the fashion side of music... Just bad timing really.. I saw them a lot in London in 80's but just like the Mission and those grebo bands had their moment.. Immediately sound and look dated when you had exciting hip hop and electronic music being the zeitgeist...
@@brianmansfield666 Grunge killed hair metal. Godfathers were nothing like that. Something else happened. The Hives never left their suits behind. Ironic thing is, over 30 years on, these guys sound and look contemporary. All the Pixies and Replacement knock offs do sound dated. Never mind the Docs and flannel shirts.
@@Azabaxe80 I didn't say grunge exclusively, reread what I said. I was in a band in London at this time, I know what happened... I was there! With Godfathers was also management issues, label issues and personal interband issues. If these don't align for success then a band won't go anywhere.. Only 2% of bands succeed! Nowadays quality of bands is so low... Band like Elbow, that would be a fifth on the bill at Bull and Gate, Kentish Town in 1987 and you'd never hear of them again after they paid to play Rock Garden.. Hehe
@@brimans3092 It's laughable saying "I know what happened, I was there!" as members of the same band often have very different versions and recollections of the same events.
Belgrade, Serbia, SKC March 1990 & London, Islington, O2 November 2023. Both concerts to remember for life. Music rhat was boiling blood in my veins when I was 16 and today when I’m 50. Love them ♥️
Ya, just a beauty experience! These guys never will i forget. And Maximo Park too. Dam great music. Im 59.99 yrs old, and will live and die for my fave genre of music to my ears. Punk rock forever, from the days i had to hide my Ramones records in My Daddys bethoven sleeves
I saw them live in the late 80's or early 90's when I was in college. Had to drive live 3 hours to see them in cleveland. It was awesome. Cool to see this clip.
@@peggie7013 I drove from BGSU to a bar in Downtown Cleveland. It was an area with a lot happening downtown that had a name but can't remember the name of the bar or area. It was only a few hundred people. It was probably 1989
Love the Godfathers from back when I first saw them on mTV in the eighties. This and "If I only Had Time" are the best rockers and I love the trippy feel of "When Am I Coming Down" BSWD still in high rotation on my phone.
It reminds me that back then, by chance, I was living without tomorrow and other people's hair was falling out from stress..... and yes they were the best years... and this song stuck just fine
Dollimore is a terrific guitarist and a decent chap too. My band supported the Damned in 1994 when he was playing with them & he was great company and a very kind human being!
But he totally gave up playing rock-n-roll, and has been doing mainly solo acoustic shows over the past 15 years or so. But yeah, he is an amazing axeman, that's for sure.

yes. i rediscovered it in the 80's with screaming blue messiahs and [surprisingly?] neil young. old man - remembers jerry lee lewis.... always looking for new rock... not pop music listed as rock
The Godfather’s American counterparts were maybe the Replacements, The Smithereens, or Social Distortion maybe. This was excellent punk-influenced but very basic rock & roll. GREAT STUFF! I couldn’t believe how great The Godfathers continued to be throughout their like five plus album lifespan. It was the stuff I was looking for
I remember supporting them at Leicester Princess Charlotte or DMU? I cracked open a can of their beer without asking - the bass player was like WTF: that's our beer mate - shit, I ain't messing with him I thought, fair play, soz mate!
great live band 1: I wake up in the morning and I feel like a king | Make love not work, I can do anything | Can rule my own world and never have to listen | I'm living like there's no tomorrow | You know there really isn't! 2: Every day's a thrill when you're living like me | Don't read Baudelaire's poetry | And I don't need no Ph.D | 'Cause I'm ten times smarter than you'll ever be! A high energy Dr Feelgood for the 80's that unfortunately went the same way... Cult rock n roll of the highest order. I'd pay to see the original line up as long as they weren't overweight...
@PayniePaynie I certainly believe you. There's enough going on in this tune and it's kickin' enough that the sync issue at least to me is not really an issue. It may have been just a digital transfer thing. The analog to digtital conundrum. Still, it's a kickin' tune!
I'm sorry but you can not compare any band from the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s with anything today. For at that time rock and roll had reached its full pendulum swing and is now just in repeat empty mode. The generation -- those born in the 50s, 60s and 70s -- is the very last generation to ever have the quality in musicianship and song writing with rock music attributable to their generation. Cause I said so! Another Godfathers recommendation - This Damn Nation
+Frankie Bishop I say this at least 5 times a week.. .to anyone listening. I was born in '49 and came of age during the British Invasion. As I grew into adulthood, the alternative music coming out of the '80s rivaled that of the '60s--only more diverse. The last vestige of pure music IMHO stopped in the early '90s. Metallica, Nirvana, and a few others still trying to pump out quality sounds. These days, I don't even turn on the radio. . unless it's Sirius satellite while I search from the music I grew up with and love. I am so damn thankful to have been in this era. And I said so . . .many times over.
Maybe not the most optimistic lyrics, but great sound. And if you like school and love your work, it is positive. Maybe fit a little love and family in there! No matter what he is saying it is a feel good song for me!
