love these type of DYI instruction videos dude! Love that they are functional too not just for show.
Awesome video showcasing the SSC1 LED pods, Zach!
Thanks! I appreciate it!
Looked good! Plus you had fun fabricating the system too!
Exactly!
Nicely done!
Good idea on the lights…thx for the invite to the last rigs and Coffee good Meeting you let me know if there’s any in the future I also go to Gilbert or spider lake or some off-road place every weekend let me know if you ever wanna link up
Looks good man. I did the same thing with my girls 4th gen, but with the wide optic. Did the clear lens swap on the yellow pods to get that buttery 4000k output. Looks great. You should take a night driving video to show output of those spots!
This is a really cool idea. I thought about doing something similar but just mounting them on the bumper. I think this might be the way I have to go now!
Heck yeah!
This is what I want!
If you use a different lense such as flood or wide will make the amber backlights a lot brighter useful for drl
I like it.
Awesome video and custom application!
Thanks!
It would be great if DD did a range of “Raptor Style” led grill bars. Maybe using 1/2 size SSC1 pods in either Amber backlight/white main DRL function! Either way those DD pods are superb looking devices and the quality is excellent!
@@Nicholas-db5sl Thank you for the support! We may look into this down the road! Stay tuned for future releases!
@@diodedynamics That would be wonderful! Hopefully a DD Raptor Style Grill bar variant will be available to fit my UK Ford Ranger MRST. Will keep checking your website for any updates on this!
You Channel is gonna blow up.
Haha why do you say that?
@@OverlandEngineer because your videos are great.
@@dannym1642 Oh thanks!
This is a GREAT idea. Trying to figure out how this would work with the 2020+ (non-Pro) upper grilles with the horizontal "bars" bisecting the upper grille sections. Was going to do a dual 6" bar mount behind there, but wasn't sure how much those thicker bars would block the light output. Wouldn't be a big deal with the backlight feature, but might not be great if it blocks half the lens of the SSC1's.
Yeah that would be tough. Though any grill lights would be tough on that grill haha. Just get the pro grill!
@@OverlandEngineer You're probably right - that may be the way I end up going after all!
I like it!
Thanks!
You ever gonna do some night output shots? I just wanna know if the light is still usable
After uploading I realized I did not do a comparison...I will try to do it in a future Diode Dynamics light install for comparison. In the meantime you can compare lumen output. They are spots. The light bar has roughly 7000 lumen output and these are about 3000 combined. Hope that helps!
Great video man! I am going back on this one from when I saw it like a year ago and now really considering doing this mod.
Do you have any recommendations or advise, If I am looking to install without a switch pro? Im a terrible electrician so any advise to hook these up to the battery and run off of a switch would be amazing. Would the wiring stay the same?
I'm not sure what wiring harness they send with the SSC1s but I presume you could use their harnesses to get it done!
@@OverlandEngineer Sweet - Ill take a deeper look and check it out. Been wanting this set up for a while now - pretty stoked to get things started!
I like it
Thanks!
Can you see a difference with these on as opposed to when you were just running the light bar?
Yeah definitely. It’s definitely brighter but also creates a square light projection rather than a bar if that makes sense.
What is the size of the aluminum flat stock used as the bracket?
Good question, I believe I used 1/8" but you could use 1/4"
Nice! I've never been a fan of "Raptor" lights, partly because they serve no real purpose and because it gives credit to that overpriced thing from FORD. But what you've done here makes sense. Speaking of making sense, I'm beginning to think that you NEED a LX460 in the not-too-distant future, Zach... "for the channel" if not for Otis. :))) A V-8, 6-speed... YES!
Do the c1 get warm enough to melt some snow?
I don’t know…I haven’t really noticed any issues. I haven’t really paid attention
I must have missed it.....what is the function of these lights?
The lights are bright spots so you get front facing offroad lighting in addition to DRL amber lights that look like raptor/grill lights.
Where did you connect the backlight wire to?
My switch pros but the INJ fuse could probably work to trigger a relay.
I have the switch Pros as well.. So the red to the switch, black to buss bar, then the blue to keep the back light lit goes to INJ fuse through the firewall?
Notification squad 🙌
Heck yeah!!! Love to see that.
Easily rigged up with a custom mount. But, what makes them any more "functional" than the other billion offers out there, that cost 1/4 as much, and install in minutes. Just asking bro.
What other options in this size have the backlight feature?
They can be used as actual off roading lights not just marker lights like the typical raptor style. Nice work.
@@currentlyhd7649 Yeah this is what I was getting after when I said functional.
@@andrewh7400 None that I know of. I think Baja Designs has back lights on their light bars and LP4,LP6,LP9 but none of the pods. Diode Dynamics even has back lights on the SSC2s if you wanted something larger than what I have but still easily small enough to fit behind the grill.
I feel like the "custom mount" is pretty easy to make though if you have basic tools. I used a basic hand saw, small cordless drill, and a clamp to make it. You could even buy it in a 24" section probably so you would only need the clamp, drill and spray paint.
custom dremel work..ROFL.
Hahaha
From one of your other videos, it looks like they are aimed far too high to be of much use. Sure, the backlighting looks cool but let's not call this functional when the light they project is far too high to be of use. They are basically expensive raptor lights the way they are aimed.
this is nothing more than a sponsored video . I wouldn't consider any install that requires the use of a dremel as functional or custom. I hope your sponsors will pay for your hacked up grill in the future..LOL.
Why would I do this for a sponsored video? This definitely looks sweet and cosmetically you cannot tell I cut it. It is hardly structural. Half of overland modifications require you to cut your vehicle up anyway, why does this one make you so angry? LOL
