Insta360 X3 Action Camera Review and Test Footage

- Today we are testing the New Action Camera Insta360 X3 along with some accessories. The Insta360 X3 has some really cool perspectives that we haven't been able to capture with any other camera so far, so, in this video, we test it for 3 shots that we think help make a great video.
1. The "drone shot ",
2. The follow-cam footage.
3. The invisible selfy stick.
All the footage was all pretty easy to capture. The image stabilisation works well even when the camera is swaying around more than you would expect it to be able to compensate for. And the editing was pretty easy too; you just drag to the shot you want, and then can save that, or play around with speed, changing angles in their editing software "insta360 studio 2023"
one thing I really liked when editing was easily changing the field of view. Unlike the GoPro where you choose "liner" or Superwind" with the insta 360 it just shoots everything, and then when editing you can change that FOV, you can completly remove the fisheye or to egsaturate it, its up to you. I liked that flexibility.
Tyhe one limitatioin I think is that The Camera shoots in 5.7K (360 view), but when you edit it, the chosen frame exports in 1080P.
This is fine for most action footage. but worth noting.
All in all, this is the best action camera we have used for sports. Hands down mainly because of how easy it is to get every shot, you never miss the angle like we did with GoPro, and you can play around with some cool effects and switching views. So for sure, we will keep using this for our riding clips. :)

Hi mate thanks for the vid. Which length invisible selfie stick did you use for the harness mount? I think it comes in a longer or shorter version and I am thinking the longer one might be better angle but maybe more leverage so could break more easily. Cheers.

@flukes - you didn't talk about the harness and whether you thought a) it was made well and could survive crashes, or b) whether it gets in the way of the kite harness!? 🤔
Hey, yeah I crashed a lot with it, and it was ok. but one time i did notice the screw braked was getting loose so i tightened that, but otherwise was all good, that said, it is not officially rated for water use because t is possible to break it if you crash hard enough, of course. to fit it, we put the kite hardness on first, and then we actually slide the camera harness down the back and stuff it in between the kite harness and your back. seems to hold it pretty good :0

I found a video review of the harness & chest strap mounts made by a company called Sail and the rider broke the harness bracket multiple times in crashes (but there was no footage of the crash to know what kind of stack). Given the price difference the official one - even though not rated for watersports - seems good enough. Looks like making a lanyard to the pole in case of snappage could also be a good idea 💡

Nice review! Would you say there's less editing if purely running it on a back mount harness. In theory it's just cutting the shots
It's actually the same in editing no matter what. If you grab it, spin it, throw it or keep it perfectly stable on a harness, in editing its the same, all you do is select what you want it to follow by drawing a square around it (such as your back) and it will track that so it makes it really easy.. and you do not need to worry about if the camera is stable :)

Just asking if you have had any problems with water getting into camera, I use my insta 330 x3 inside a dive case to protect camera and lens as have heard some people getting water inside camera, I know it very important to make sure you check the battery door and charging port door is fully closed before using in water, enjoyed your video and the footage :):)
No so far, all seems fine, but yes, I was also told by several people to make sure the doors are fully closed, so we have always been careful with that :)

I wonder how does the camera waist harness fit along the kite harness. Noticed there are some questions about it. Would you send pictures? Also, do not you think the chest mount would fit better if put reversed? Meaning the chest side on the back. Believe I saw Stig Hoefnagel with that set up
Thanks :) yeah the chest mount backwards is a good option too. whatever you have, the more secure the better. That said we made this work easily by tucking it into the back of the harness. You can see it clearly in the clip Frances is riding :)
Hi mates. I can’t find the waist strap on their site. Do you know if they stopped making it? Also have you had any issue during a crash with the waist strap selfie stick attachment? I’m hoping to use mine for surfing but concerned if it will hold in the waves
Hmm, im not sure, i also remember it was hard to find on the site, but was there, maybe in one of the packages. best top shoot them a message and see. And yeah, id be worried using it for surf... I dontr use it, even though it would be epic to wear getting barreled... just the risk of smashing it off on the board or bottom... But on a nice day might be good!
Can you make the stick completely disapear when the x3 is put in the invisible case (above water) ?
We didn't have an invisible case so not sure about this
Do you use any lens protection? sticky lens guard? Can they resist water? Thanks
Totally waterproof so far in the water. We don't have any extra lens cover. Just the ones for storing, but on the water we don't use anything. Being 360 The lens does stick out a bit so best to be carful when moving around the beach. But in the water its fine :)
Hi, on the 360 website they state not to use the back belt for watersports. Any idea why that would be?
I think because it is only a velcro waist strap, so with a big enough crash it could come undone (and sink) we didn't have any issues, but it could happen i guess. It would probably be a good idea to put it on a floating pole, or have a safety line attached to it separately just incase. :)
Will the camera fall if you fall down at high speed?
Its pretty solid just riding, but in a crash it could come off

Yeah for sure, right on the phone or ipad or mac. Really nice and easy

Yes constantly. It's waterproof :)

Also Amazon has package with harness and invisible selfie stick. Not sure if they are same price but it is prime for delivery!

A back mount camera. great shot angle. Smart technology. Stupid technology(over complex) = 360 camera or drone following cam
This 360 camera is pretty good though, makes it easy to get any shot :)

Hey Hari, yeah its a good one! we simply strap it around our waist and have the invisible selfie stick screwed into the mount, then it creates this great follow cam footage :)

How does the waist harness work while wearing a kite harness?
it worked pretty well, we just had the camera harness just above the kite harness and tucked it in in the back.
Looks really amazing. Thanks for sharing..I was trying to find a line mount for X3 but it seems nothing is out yet. So I’m thinking getting one of these waist belt/stap. Would that be possible if you could please share a photo how you added it on top of kite harness? I have a XS mystic dazzled harness which is medium not hard shell. I can’t imagine if it will work on it or not..
