Aloe, aloe, Adam Gibbs here in Namibia!
This was a masterclass in shooting this area. I have seen videos of many different photographers in Namibia. They usually take one or two pics of the trees and move on to the next location. I have never seen anyone make the trees look so beautiful. Just beautiful work!
Thanks, appreciate that!
Amazing! 😮and so beautiful! Really great Images Adam! ❤
Some very unique comps Adam. I loved my time in the Quiver forest and I think that Namibia may be my favourite country! Big call I know but the landscape is so so stunning there. Also there is nothing in the world like an African sunset. How I wish I could go back but thank u for taking me down memory lane
Great photos and video. It's nice to see a landscape from another planet 🌎 😁
The pano at 14:36 is just splendid, what a fun trip!
I much prefer the trees in the after glow light than the morning or afternoon light. It’s less “contrasty” and has more flow. So beautiful!
The afterglow images are amazing, but the b&w shot is my favorite!
Enjoyed vicariously seeing your stunning photographs of this unique environment and Quiver Trees. Now I know where Dr. Suess got his inspiration. 😂
Beautiful, Adam....my favorite is the one at 15:00 with the tree roots in front of it. Lovely place to visit.
Lovely tastefully edited shots. Though I'm not a great fan of B&W Landscapes, I liked yours in particular Adam 📷👍
Beautiful series of photos Adam. I especially like the last pano at the 14:30 mark and the two images that followed.
Awesome. Enjoyed the video very much an I love your Raw into final picture transition 🙌
Glad to hear it!
Fascinating landscape!!!
My goodness… what an ongoing explosion of pure beauty and too class art. Wow… Thanks Adam.
Loved the image at 14:36.
Just stunning !!! loved our trip to Namibia, loved the rugged beauty and so much to photograph. Would do it again in a heartbeat. Enjoy it’s unique landscape, nothing else like it in the world
Glad both of you had a vacation
WoW Adam!!!! Awesome Video And OMG Them Shots Of The Trees.... Gave Me A Photogasmn lol
Some great pictures!
You never fail to inspire; thanks Adam‼️
I appreciate that!
Talk about a neat location, the rock shapes and isolation you can get on the trees is really special. You got some real zingers out of the spot.
Wonderful place and stunning images. Particularly like the silhouette at 3:10 and the BW at 10 ish. You’re good man ❤️
cheers, matey!
I actually really like the composition at 11:20 with some cropping and tweaking. "You’re in my frame Adam" haha. Fantastic job as usual, what a cool place
I think a book of these images might be great.
Wonderful images Adam ! I really look forward to seeing your videos and images thank you ☺️
Many thanks!
absolutely fantastic
Wow , those afterglow images are fantastic
Many thanks!
Fantastic light and superb compositions - thank you very much for this one, Adam!
Many thanks!
Many thanks!
What a unique area to shoot with such grand results. I always like your discussion of composition and light with the display of the RAW and processed versions of the images.
Serene first 3 minutes matched the sunny Sunday morning. Sounds like quite a trip. Looking forward to the photos. Thank you.
Beautiful stuff. Looks like you're having a great time.
Brilliant video again Adam and so many fantastic Images 👍
Thanks 👍
Perfect sky and lighting for these amazing trees.
you really just have to love a good tree...
I love it, that you show so many photographs, even the ones, that you are not 100% satisfied with.
As an amateur you see, that even the pros need some time to make a killer-shot.
While watching some of the other UA-cam-Channels one could get the impression that everything is just perfect …. Always 😃
What a great place for photography.
I think these trees would lend themselves quite well to night sky photography. Thanks for sharing
Yes they do
Wow- truly stunning shots. Thank you for the video.
Our pleasure!
What a fascinating place and trees! Reckon God had a good imagination to come up with those ones! Stunning images Adam. Loved seeing each one.
Many thanks
One of your best. Thank you.
Fantastic photographs and related explanations of your composition thinking!
Many thanks!
Wonderful images. Thank you Adam. (And your lovely assistant)
Glad you enjoyed it
fabulous compositions on these fascinating trees. Love the bark! Some nice evening lighting too. Thanks, Adam.
Many thanks!
Lovely images. The local currencies are quite weak, making it a cheap holiday for overseas visitors. Enjoy!
Great shots!!
It's neat to see you apply the same approach you use when photographing trees in Vancouver to a totally different environment.
Absolutely!
Adam, as usual a fantastic video. The quiver trees have always interested me. Each shot miraculously is better than the previous. I don't know how you do it,excellent!!! Another fantastic video. The panoramas are great. If I had to pick a favorite it would be a dilemma. Thanks for another great video Adam.
How exciting for you as a master of tree photography to be able to capture these unique trees so magnificently! I am partial to sunset so those shots really sang to me. Glad you got a bit of extra relaxing time as well when you traveled so far, and love that you aren't frantically rushing around!
What an amazing place! How the hell have those rocks ended up stacked on top of each other… Amazing. I especially enjoy guessing how you’ll crop each image. Lovely work, Adam. 👍🦘
Glad you enjoyed it
It'a a really alien nature. My mind can't really apprehend nor adjust to it.
Man what a beautiful area. Such an awesome opportunity for you to photograph there! All of those images were spectacular.
Thanks a bunch!
So glad you discovered Quivertree Forest & Giant's Playground. I first went there when I was a kid and try to stay whenever I'm in Africa. I was lucky enough to be there after a rain storm and the colours were intense. There are many stunning landscapes in Namibia and the Kalahari which I think you'd love to photograph. There is a type of tree called the Camelthorn (Kameeldoring), which is as gnarly as you can get, especially when set against the desert landscapes. I can also confirm the snake story as I've photographed cobras trying to get into the social weaver nests to eat the chicks. It's entirely possible for them to lose grip and fall! There's a coastal town called Luderitz nearby which has very bleak landscapes which you might like.
Thanks, Duncan! Luderitz next weeks video, cheers!
@@QuietLightPhoto Fantastic, it's a very special place!
Definitely see your perspective about the afterglow as I certainly gravitate towards those images. Well done and the location is spectacular!
Many thanks!
Wow!! Great images, breathtaking location.
Many thanks!
Lovely photos Adam, especially the twilight images turned out great with the added color in the evening sky.
Many thanks!
Beautiful forest
Adam, you must have been in 7th heaven. It must have been hard to leave. Your photography is stunning!
It was! thanks!
Here's you complaining about the heat and I'm still shoveling snow :(
😂
Nova Scotia- winter, mosquito’s, ten minutes of summer, back to winter😂🤘🏻
What kind of mad man moves to Nova Scotia by choice.... oh wait. Gavin does. Bonus though is he is near Newfoundland which looks amazing.
Except it’s cheaper for me to fly to South Africa than Newfoundland, go figure!
@@QuietLightPhoto You're forgetting 'Windy Season'. That's fun.
Looks like a great time with trees. I like doing tree photography and your images are always top notch. Thank you.
Wow! Those Quiver tree shots were incredible! Really gorgeous! Thank you for sharing!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Adam, Thank you for taking the time & effort to post this wonderful video and provide your setting for each image. Masterful photography! While the trees are so unique, I'm taken with the rock formations as well. Especially with the rocks stacked as they are in some areas. Questions -- What time of the year do you recommend visiting this area? Did you use your Kase filters in any of the shots? Again, THANK YOU for sharing the great images!
Probably in the off season, March was good. No I didnt use any filters for these although a polarizer might come in handy now and then.
You are creative and inspiring
Thanks! I appreciate that.
Excellent video
Thank you very much!
I just came back from a camping trip in southern USA, there are so many similarities (and differences of course) in the Quiver Forest of Namibia with the Joshua Trees of California... Great eye Karen in pointing out that composition for Adam😀
Mental landscape, beautiful subjects 👍🏻 definitely a bit to hot though lol
I'm guessing Karen wrote your intro for you and contributed mightily in your B-roll. I've heard photographers say how beautiful this place is and yet difficult to capture. I'm glad you came here to show others how a master of composition and light can make such stunning shots!
An absolutely amazing looking place. I hope you make at least a couple of these available as prints.
Lovely stuff Adam. Will keep an eye out for more videos from this trip
More to come!
These images are stunning! The trees made wonderful sculptural subjects. Well done!
Amazing place and shots 👏
Magical place. Stunning images. Thanks for sharing.
Many thanks!
Beautiful scenery, reminiscent of Joshua Tree NP with the unusual trees, rocks and boulders. Your images really captured the Quiver trees wonderfully. Great video Adam! Looking forward to seeing more images of your trip.
Thank you so much 😀
Welcome to Africa Adam and welcome to the pristine country of Namibia .. a land of diversity and beauty ! Hope you have a safe and productive stay .. April -May is a good time to be there for light and clouds . Days are hot and nights are cold ! Especially in amongst the dunes ! You will love Kolmans kop .. the diamond Town ! Looking forward to watching your next blogs . Enjoy !
Thanks!
Looks like you had a great trip! I first learned about Namibia from my first job out of college, my boss had me edit video from his trips to Africa, and quickly fell in love with that region. So cool! Can’t wait to see more from your trip down there.
Really fantastic video! I had the privilege of visiting the quiver tree forest last year and wow you are so right, it's truly a wonderful place! Your compositions all turned out so nice and you got some magic light 🙂
Glad you enjoyed it!
Fabulous compositions Adam. Looking forward to more videos from Namibia. I'm headed there in the Fall and appreciate the tips I have learned from you here. Cheers
Have fun!
This may well be my favourite video of yours, what a stunning location but it takes a master of his craft to make the best of it.
Glad you enjoyed it
Adam, what an amazing set of images. I especially loved the one at timestamp 14:32 I love how all the colors complement each other. Out of curiosity, in which month did u take this image?
It was in late February I believe
2:26 ….. spectacular, great composition. 3:00 …… likewise.
Hell, they’re all good.
So good!
Welcome to my side of the planet ☺☺☺☺
Wow, you certainly bagged up there Adam.. fabulous images. I hope you got to record a video when you were with Alex. atb Alan
Absolutely
Great images! It does seem rather odd to see you without a pair of Wellies on your feet.
Yes I felt very uncomfortable ;-)
Adam, I have seen many images from this place, but found your interpretation and compositions very refreshing. Well done.
Many thanks!
Ayoye!
Exceptional images! I was hoping that Karin was there too it's such a beautiful place. I had never heard of the nests in the quiver trees until today. The potential "snake" rain is a bit off-putting ;-) Safe travels.
Argh!Just what I didn't need to see. We had planned for Namibia in July but time constraints dictate another date. Hope your trip is a memory maker.
Another great video!!!
Did you get Mike Oldfield to do the music?
Not yet!
Hi Adam. Great adventure and great photos. My favourites are at the end, with this amazing red glow on the trees and the rest of the landscape. I like your videos for the calm and chilled out atmosphere, which is quite often reflected in your choice of music. I'm sorry Adam, but it is actually the music, that made me to write this comment : ) . The song starting at around 14 minutes is so beautiful... My question to you is - can you (are you willing to) share the artist's and song's name, I hope I can find it on UA-cam. Thank you.
Song is, Cloudbursts by David Celeste, cheers!
Thank you. Much appreciated.
Have you considered a shift lens for forests Adam? I've been considering it, to avoid the leaning effect when pointing upward (which I usually try to avoid if it will create hotspots from the sky). Laowa might make one for the GFX but I'm not sure.
Fuji are coming out with one this year but I have no idea what focal length it will be
So Gavin Hardcastle is wrong, you have a girlfriend 😂.
Beautiful video! Namibia is on my bucket list. 👍
That wasn't your usual FLM tripod?? Travel weight restrictions change your take along gear?? That is an incredible area of South Africa. Nicely done!!
No I brought along an FLM CP30-M5 Hybrid Tripod to cut down on weight for my trek into the Drakensberg
Feel like I need to eat an acid tab for this
