Great tips video. I learned several new things. Additional tip: Cottages during the winter are a massive help. It's a challenge for a singleplayer to get everything done including a cottage, but it's huge for warmth. I still haven't figured out how to get rid of the Work Hours debuff.
My first ever winter I had enough food to hunker down in the 1 cottage I had with 2 villagers. I set their schedule to sleep and all leisure, no work. I had 2-3 blizzards that first play through. We survived but right after a bear came and murdered us all 😂. This was before the patch that fixed the bear. So when it said the bear was leaving I was relieved and started back about my day… then it came barreling back like, “from the top rope!”. Destroyed most of my buildings and all villagers. I turned that around and went 100 days before deciding to restart with what I learned. lol this game is awesome
@@stegalin96 I had to Google "Top rope", I literally LOL'd🤣 That dang bear. One of my first play throughs I had nearly the same thing happen. I drew him way from the village until I saw him leave, then came back and stayed until nothing was left, including me. In my current play through, I had two blood hordes at the same time, then the bear the next night, a wolf attack the following night. Now I'm looking at winter and the first Invasion Night.😩 I don't know if I love this game or hate it. I hope they give us an easy mode soon.
Sliders for modes and adjusting things in Aska is a top requested feature that the devs say is near the top of their list. I think that's really smart. Definitely needed with how fast certain mobs can just wipe out defenses.
@@GamingwithKristi I'm so revealed to hear that. Putting the invasion during the coldest days of winter is pretty cruel. Also, I've had two instances where I've had multiple event attacks in a single night. Bear, Wolfur, Blood Moon. Knowing that these are going to get stronger as I progress is daunting😮💨
One more tip about those arrows you had yourself at the end of the video, If you roll you can get the arrows to fall of and you can pick them up from the ground
Also you can add additional beds to houses and add a firewood storage too so they don't freeze in the winter, farmers get through the rakes super quick and build your base by a cave and mob pits for a good source of metal scraps.
One tip I'd add is to build your village right near one *or more* well stones (the stone you build wells on). Save a spot near a well for your cookhouse. Making soup uses a lot of water. Even before the cookhouse, it's never a bad thing to have lots of drinking water. Come to think about it, the farm uses quite a bit of water, too.
Much appreciated! So useful. I'm new, but I had no idea thatch could be converted to fiber. I had such a hard time finding enough fiber! Sort of dreading first winter now, though, after watching this!
My early game tip would be to speed run to a farm and build three 4x4 farm plots with ALL flax, then use that flax(fiber) to build basic shirt, pants, and hood for all the villagers. Then use the tips in this video with clothing for everyone to make it much easier during winter. I started making cloths too late in the season and didn't understand the crazy amount of fiber needed. Now with 2 farms growing flax, I have more fiber than I can handle..
Winter is brutal but with this info you can prepare well! Also agree with the other comment that getting clothes is great if you can by the 1st winter. I'd also make one of those farms for garlic though as you'll need to heal from coughs and colds in the winter and it provides a healing buff overall.
I noticed only about 9% of players had the achievement for cooking a dozen fish so here's another tip: After fishing, drop all the fish on the ground then harvest them. You can now cook them on the bbq to increase the food quality.
you missed the clothing part. with basic linen clothing and hood, u can resist both the Rain and the cold (Weaver attachment on workshop) also with a Cottage make extra thatch beds. cant fit 8 people in one cotage
I was saving clothes as a more mid game tip but they are super useful, especially for ASKA as she is weak to cold. You can def put more beds in cottages although you'll get a slight debuff. I think it's totally worth it though. You can make up for it in other ways and save a lot of resources. Thanks for watching!

That Shift Click in inventory to break down is the best tip, I feel a little silly filling my inv with bark, putting them on the ground, harvesting them into fiber , then crafting into rope
They should be able to work 8 or 9 hours a day. Some of them will need breaks for water or food if they're a hungry giant, etc. I'd say look at your housing situation. Are their homes near things that make them unhappy, like the coal station? Homes should be not in manufacturing areas and you can add decos to increase the housing points.
Whhaaaaaa you can break down bark and thatch for fiber?!? AND do it in your inventory to boot?? LOLOL *looks at my huge bark storage* 😝 Ahhhh all the hours I've spent griding flax 😵💫 LOL! Thank you SO much! Excellent video. I just got the game a few days ago and all this info was super helpful!!
I've ran into a issue where my villagers were not eating or wanting to cook food. I lost 5 of the 8 in like 30min. And fall just hit. I hope I don't have to restart my game. I've have a really good set up. Also a good tip as well, when you build your first big house. You can add 4 more beds in side and it'll sleep 6 with a fire inside. I found that out and it's very helpful!
They won't eat raw mushrooms...had people start dying and had tons of mushrooms. As soon as I cooked them they ate them right off the cooker...think they would eat raw before dying. But oh well. Lots to learn...killed the bear though! 😅
Do you have a dedicated cook and/or someone dedicated to the bbq? Also, make sure there is room in storage for them to place the food so they'll keep stockpiling more. They will eat some foods raw such as berries but they prefer cooked food.
question for anyone, my villagers that are set for lumber, keep going around and cutting the trees down instead of picking up what they have already cut down, am i doing something to wrong so they will go and pick up what is already on the ground?
I had no idea thatch and bark cud turn to fiber, that's actually huge. I don't understand death. I chose the ghost option and I spawned as a ghost next to the eye of odin in the village. I ran to my body as a ghost but couldn't find it, nothing happened. The 3 min timer ran out and I only had the option to become reborn. So I just spawned next to the eye of odin without any of my items that I had on my person. What does "taking the soul of one of your villagers" mean? I didn't notice any villagers disappearing when I become reborn.
If you take their soul then you come back at full strength, with all your stuff, and without losing skills... but they die. If you choose to be reborn, you drop all of your stuff and lose 30% of your skills. You can also choose to be a ghost, appear at the eye of odin, then change your mind by selecting reborn and then you are reborn but all of your stuff is right beside you b/c you were at the eye when you chose it. Good luck out there!
This game plays like any other crafting survival game for about the first 5 days in game. After that, if you don’t start delegating work to your villagers, it becomes a mind-numbing grind fest. It kind of reminds me of some factory sim games I’ve played (ie satisfactory or dyson sphere program) in that as you unlock more and more tech, you can make almost anything by yourself but if you don’t automate the gathering of resources and production of items, it takes forever to do anything.
