Here's my favorite part of the interview: "I know who the best Hendrix was, I know who the best Django Reinhardt was, I know who the best Yngwie Malmsteen is and one day I want to be the best me that there is. So I think that's really what it's all about. Music can't be viewed as a competition, I don't think it's an Olympic thing where you have to beat the other guy. I think if you have to beat anything it's you a week ago or a year ago, you have to be better then that. So everyone's on their own course, and you never succeed. It's not like you win one day, like "cool now I sound like me, now I'm the best". I think the more you work on music, the more you search music, the more you realize actually you know nothing. And that's a beautiful thing as it gives you more motivation when you wake up the next morning to pick up your instrument with humility and learn some more about it" Guthrie is a very inspiring person, both with his amazing music and humble personality. He seems like a very down to earth guy.
seriously one of my favorite all time quotes. Like some of the most perfect thoughts about development anyone's ever had. Guthrie is more enlightened than super geniuses like Elon Musk.
Can you even imagine what the reaction would have been if somehow this man were transported back to 1970?! Even today with our senses overstimulated and sated by 30 years of various super shredders GG is still gobsmacking to witness with his total mastery of his instrument. But he also seems somehow to embody the more innocent spirit of the early 70s in his approach, it's just that he performs at a level no-one then could even have imagined.
They would consider him being above any guitarist of that era and will probably affect the guitar world of this current time…….but still it’s hard to say that Guthrie Govan is a product of what his been listening to over the years since he was 3 years old
