Hi all. Again thanks for watching! This is only my second time doing a review in a “pros & cons” format, and it’s the first time I started with cons. My thought was that it would be better to end the video on a positive note instead of the bad stuff. But in hindsight I think I spent a long time on the cons, and they’re mostly very minor issues so I hope people don’t get the wrong idea! Overall this board gave me a good impression and the pros outweigh the cons. Dammit I should have said that in the video!
I wish people would stop saying in videos "if you live in a place with bad roads, you need a more flexible and longer board..." That is simply not true :S:S If you are a skater, like I am, you go everywere with a board with zero flex, through all kinds of grounds... And its really not difficult at all. I would say a harder-shorter board is much, MUCH better to go through the city, specially if you actually want to get up and down the curbs quickly. But thanks fot the video.
Daniel, I wanted to tell you that i consider your reviews TOP NOTCH!! after seeing you navigating traffic, trikes, motor bikes, while giving your review?? you are a pro!! I just ordered the long board version. you need more SUBS!!
Nice reviewing as always. You literally give the best reviews hands down. Meepo also has a board with a tail (and front lip) now too. Ronnie reviewed it and it seems a lot like the normal 1.5 but with the tails. It’s the board I am currently most interested in getting.
I bet that one is great as well. I wonder if the front kick has any practical use aside from tricks though. Seems like a leftover feature from a regular skateboard design.
Daniel Kwan the front lip has some functions. For me it would be helpful when riding over the occasional train track crossing, and when pavement is uneven (ie going into a parking lot or driveway & the entrance is noticeably higher then the street). So having the ability to lift both ends of the board up has the occasional use, at least for me in Connecticut.
Good review ! , the cons are important, my Meepo 1.5 arrived and I'm very happy with it , yeah they would want to learn how to drive a screw properly and the grip tape could have been lined up a bit better but the Meepo electronics package is good , it works very well ! nicely put together video Daniel , well done !
great video Daniel I fined with my Ownboard W1, that the brake works better with a grater speed, so when I'm going fast and pumping the amps through the motors, and flick the brakes, it really slows down fast with a strong break, but when running really slow or almost stopped the brakes are almost non existent and definitely won't hold you on a hill I suppose that the brakes need the hi amps of the wheels rotating fast to work well, as its a electronic brake and not a physical brake like a drum or disc brake, it needs power to work them, it doesn't take this power from the battery, because it wants to putting the power back into the battery, so the faster the wheels are turning when you break with your weight on the board, just like a dynamo, its creating a lot of power or amps to work the brakes as it feeds the access power back into the battery. sorry if this doesn't make cents and a bit long winded, I'm not the best at explaining in text. and im sure theres a better qualified person that isn't dyslexia that can explain better. Lol
Really useful review, glad you focused on small details cause it's what differ one board from another. If it's possible I would also like to see in-depth review about Ownboard W1 PRO and WowGo 2s when they come up :)
Daniel Kwan yeah the wowgo 2s same remote as the ownboard better bearing softer bushing and the most awesome thing is the 5.2 LG battery only cost an extra $20 and they are giving $20 off, wowgo is definitely giving meepo a run for there money
Yeah and that's great but on the other hand if you decide to buy one, by the time it arrive to you there will be a new one :D Anyway, I feel like Meepo 1.5 is now a little bit outdated comparing to these two.
TwiFeedo That's exactly what I was thinking I wanna make sure I making the right choice, fabtrav is bringing out a board under $500 but it's not gonna be a longboard
Thanks Daniel for your review! Looking forward to more in depth ones! Maybe that's why they recommended this board for >130 kg because it's so stiff. Loving the crazy hair too. How'd you get it to stay up like that? 😆
Thank you for the video! I am looking for my first board. I definitely want a kicktail, so the obvious question is: Ownboard or Meepo? Both have recently have upgrades. It appears the Meepo is about eight inches longer than the Ownboard. Any advice for a newcomer to electric skateboards? Thank you!
I have filmed two range tests but they’re not edited yet. They’re still lined up behind a couple other videos. In the meantime feel free to ask me questions. I have the 6.4 Ah battery option and reached 30 km (medium throttle) and 24 km (faster) in my tests. I forget the weather temperature (need to check footage) but probably around 10-12 °C.
+Daniel Kwan awesome, can't wait till the vids are out, I'm looking to get the 6.4 ah battery aswell, 24 km full throttle is awesome range, what board would you personally choose between the own board, meepo v1.5 or wowgo (budget boards)
I’ve never used Ownboard W1 so can’t really comment on that one. I would choose Meepo or WowGo as a daily driver over the Ownboard W1A because the W1A deck is quite stiff. But at a smooth and flat location like the one in this video I might prefer the W1A for the kicktail.
That 24 km wasn’t at full throttle by the way. I was going faster than the first range test but not full throttle, at least not the whole time. I don’t feel too comfortable going full throttle on this board actually. It’s noticeably more bumpy than Meepo/WowGo (and probably W1). Maybe I just need more practice.
I used to think a kicktail on an electric longboard would be beneficial but not anymore. You can’t really use it while riding, unless you’re going really really slow.
Hey Danny! I'm def interested in the W1 board and from what i gather it's pretty much the better version between the meepo and wowgo but I'm wondering how the top speed and range test went! Do you think you can make a video of the test on this board like you did the wowgo and meepo?
I’ve shot two range tests so far but haven’t edited the videos. This is using the 6.4 Ah battery and I got about 30 km and 24 km on those two sessions. Haven’t done a proper top speed test yet. I’m quite backlogged, may be a week or two before my next Ownboard video but feel free to ask me questions about it. :)
Daniel Kwan hey Daniel! Thank ya for getting back to me so fast! Yea I love watching your videos especially the ones when your traveling all over Shanghai! So I guess my basic questions is which of the budget boards between the Ownboard W1, Wowgo 2, the Meepo 1.5 or another budget boards do you think is the better one overall?
Best overall is hard to pick because they each have their own minor quirks and advantages for different situations. I would say out of the box the Meepo is better suited for turning and the WowGo is better suited for high speed stability, but that’s mainly because of the different bushings which you can change yourself for like $10. Most people might prefer Meepo’s deck, I think. Ownboard W1A seems to use softer bushings as well and turns quite well, so I would guess that the W1 performs similarly. Changing the motors on the Ownboard should be easier when that becomes necessary. The upcoming WowGo 2S is supposed to have a 3-speed wheel remote (Ownboard is 2-speed) and Zealous bearings, if those things matter to you. I’ve seen both praise and complaints about customer service for Meepo and WowGo. Haven’t seen any complaints for Ownboard but they’re also a newer brand. So in the end...they’re all good. 😁
Daniel Kwan hahahaha nice, I think I'll go for the W1 with 6.4 battery but I may change the deck at some point! Thanks again for your expertise bro! Looking forward to seeing more videos!
Hey Daniel! im torn between the W1A and W1. In my city, the roads are the equivalent to teenage acne, just reallly bad road conditions and somehow im used to skating through it on a stiff deck. How much difference is there between a stiff deck and a flexible deck? Will i be able to run through debris at higher speeds and more stability?
If you’re used to it then I guess you can’t go wrong either way! :) On roads that are really rough (but still rideable), personally I do feel like I need to slow down more on a stiff board because there’s so much vibration that I can’t feel where my back foot is placed on the board.
me too, so which one did you get? I've been riding a gen1 evolve (on variable surfaces ) which due to the battery is pretty stiff. it does fine . but i'm not sure how much difference that shorter wheelbase will make.
from what ive seen, it appears these boards do not have batteries that airlines will allow on. Thats what deterred me from buying one. Their Wah are too high for safe travel. most airlines requires
That’s right. And you need to be able to detach the battery and have it with you in carry-on baggage. As far as I know, LOU Board is still the best for air travel.
How can i order this item guys... plz give me an idea how to purchase. Im leaving here in dubai and i dont know if posible they can deliver that item over here...

since i am a heavier dude, i talked to ownboard, they're making the w2 board to me but with the deck from this board! cant wait :D

Nice review daniel. Any chance you can review the AEBOARD? Curious about the board compared to the wowgo and ownboard
This was an awesome review. Can't believe u have less then 500 subs.
Grinding my way up haha
does the remote chargeable
great video Daniel

Haha it makes sense! Yeah the brakes don’t feel weak, they just don’t hold you in place at a full stop like you’d expect from a car, bike, etc.
Really useful review, glad you focused on small details cause it's what differ one board from another.
If it's possible I would also like to see in-depth review about Ownboard W1 PRO and WowGo 2s when they come up :)
They are releasing new versions so fast!!

Wash hair. Do a bad job drying hair. Wear helmet. That's it haha
Your english is spot on.
Great review! This is my first board and I thought the issue with hill stopping was normal. I guess other boards are safer for this.
It’s still a great board! :) Every eboard has its own quirks.
Thank you!
can you please do a range test with this board, and a simple ride around town video🙏hoping to get one soon, please and thank you🙌
I have filmed two range tests but they’re not edited yet. They’re still lined up behind a couple other videos. In the meantime feel free to ask me questions.

Is really the kick tail usable when riding on any mode?I think you would only use it when stopped or on turned off board?

Nise!👌do u think ownborad will do a all terrain setup?cos the road's are rough where I am !
No idea. :p I think they released the kicktail version because there was demand for it so you could let them know you're interested in an AT version.

Would you recommend this one or the Lou?
Depends what’s more important to you: portability or range. This is much bigger and heavier than LOU but goes much farther.
Love this board and good vid
Thanks! :)
Np when you do a range test you should also see the top speed
Yup I will. The web site says 39 km/h so it’s likely that +/- 1 or 2.
Daniel Kwan any idea when you will be doing a more in-depth review with this board?
I hope next week. I have a lot filmed already, just not edited. Backlogged at the moment, sorry 😐
This is a 1080p video but UA-cam is only showing me 360p. Is everyone else seeing only 360p also?
I think it's because UA-cam has to process the video first. It should be fine in a couple of minutes.
Ah yes, thanks. I see the other qualities now. Took longer than usual this time.
The trucks on my W1A are mounted diagonally too instead of straight forward
I actually didn’t notice the first couple weeks. But it’s one of those “once you see it you can’t unsee it” things. 😄
Daniel Kwan 😂
Great hair!!
Haha, that ending tho'. Nice one
