- My recovery from schizophrenia, what it looked like, things I did to get better...
Thanks to the person who recently requested this video! If I don't answer anything you wanted to know in this video, please tell me and I can discuss further in another video!
By the way, I still take medication, the same medication I've been on since 1994. It's an antipsychotic. It's the only medication I take.

Hello Matthew, thank you from The Netherlands, Europe! I have the same experience in music as you do & dancing too. I danced a lot in my life, one thing I got out of the clearings of the darkness and negativity I am still hearing, feeling is that I feel I am one with the music. I am 12 years fighting 24/7 to get it out of me. What is interesting for me is that everyone seems to believe the illness comes from drinking, smoking etc… I have drinking alcohol for a long time but have not since the illness started. As you have not been drinking alcohol it is impossible that is the cause. Why would it be for one person and not another. That is important information for me. I do still smoke sigarettes but feel more and more wanting them to go too now. I eat biological foods most days but I also have the days I am in so much pain I cannot cook. I need to watch more of your videos’s on when and how your illness started but what I seem to see a lot in common in people with voices (I have those, and they are loud!) and hallucinations is spirituality or religious beliefs. I am out of work for 12 years but Iearned gardening, drawing, painting my house, painting my furniture. It takes a long time but I do it, sometimes I do not even understand how I was able to paint…. I am so happy for you you recovered! I have been and seen many places, including Canada and USA, never any fears or exhaustion, voices or seeing energies or spirits fly, or panic attacks for 42 years. This illness is the opposite of what life can be really like. I hope you still get to do all you want to do. Thank you for sharing your experiences, it means a lot to me. Regards from Dorine. ( I recently found Lauren too, I have so much respect for her!)
Thanks for posting this! I'm having a bit of a hard time with the audio being very low but I'll persevere. Really appreciate it.
Okay....you're welcome!
Thank you, thank you, for sharing your recovery with us! It's so good to hear a story of someone who has come out the other end of mental illness ❤.
Loving the video so far!! I always forget about the concept of “post traumatic growth,” thank you :)
Also, the vase analogy reminds me of this Japanese art of repairing broken ceramics/pottery/etc - using gold (the metal, + lacquer). Kintsugi is what it’s called, and it’s really beautiful! The idea is that, instead of seamlessly hiding the fractures, it celebrates the broken veins, and the fact that the piece is whole again 💜
Thanks! Wow, that's interesting!
Thank you very much for sharing your experience!
Thank you so much for your video. I don't have schizophrenia but my loved one was diagnosed. It was quite helpful hearing your experience with your recovery.
Thank you for your kind words! Please check out Lauren Kennedy's "Living Well With Schizophrenia" UA-cam channel, and my list of best mental health tips at my MindAid.ca website.
Thank you for posting this. I am absorbing as much as i can from UA-cam to equip me to love and support a young person who jas recently been diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder. I love what you say at the very end. Yes, Lauren and Rob on their channel Living Well With Schizophrenia has been a godsend too. ❤
Okay, glad you found it useful! I have other schizophrenia resources on my list of best mental health tips at www.MindAid.ca
I am glad you are trying to help them...they are lucky to have you do that for them...remember to look after yourself too...
You should look into the ketogenic diet, Dr. Chris Palmer & Dr. Georgia Ede, are healing people into full remission. There is also a youtuber who is blogging her keto journey, so far with promising results better than medications, "living well on schizophrenia" I think is the name of the channel.
I hope this helps your friend.
@@mindaid Disease-like Freudian labels are still believed by most people. Instead, a sad person should invest brain energy Chi - so he can develop a dedication, i.e. mental health!
I rally appreciate your experience as it helps me understand what my son is going through and how he maybe thinking. It's hard to live with him as he is in one world and me in another. Thanks

This is so great.
Either way i got schizophrenia from drinking or drugs but i am also on my of recovery......Since almost 2 days i dont hear voices nor feel like someones inside of my body. I know im gonna come crashing down again since you are explaining how youre improvements were. Thank you so much for this Video. I have a chance of recovery this is a wonder for me.
Also i was 100% there there was nothing there and i was like back again like when i was 19yrs old. I dont know what exaclty for some mean recovery but for me i was back 100%. For some is recovery to be good and you are going to still have it but for me it means fully healed.
I feel like someone is in my body too! I don't read about that alot so thank you for sharing
Research shows that Acceptance and Commitment Therapy works really well. The things you talk about sound a lot like this treatment. Best wishes to you sir.
I just wanted to share with you what has really helped me with schizophrenia. I recommend oregano oil capsules with a minimum 125mg of carvacrol (I have 2-3 times a day, do not take more than 600mg). Also I eat olives in brine (6 each time twice a day). Also I take one fish oil capsule (twice a day at 1000mg) or cod liver oil capsule, in case your wondering both are omega 3 fish oil but cod liver oil has vitamin A. All these things are anti inflammatory which should help a lot with schizophrenia and are healthy. I occasionally take a natural (Naturelo) multivitamin and mineral capsule. I'm not sure if 20mg olanzapine is the best anti psychotic medication but it's what I take. I might try quetiapine and if it does not work out default back to olanzapine.
I feel like I am in remission.
You're a really cool dude :)
I just found your channel ~5 min ago, beginning with this video!
I’m curious: do you know/have you known any fellow people with schizophrenia who (successfully) manage the condition without medication?
I do
Not sure, but there may be some! Check out Lauren Kennedy's "Living Well With Schizophrenia" UA-cam channel! Great resource!
🙏🙏🙏
Thank you!

You got this bro I had very similar symptoms even as a non religious person I had religious delusions and hallucinations my psychiatrist saved my life it is never a bad idea to seek help

Well, if we could actually cocktail all those neurochemicals into one street drug, I imagine it would be like a rollercoaster ride through the depths of hell and the pearly gates of heaven at the same time. You'd be so high that you'd think you were a unicorn flying through a rainbow, but then you'd crash so hard that you'd feel like a snail stuck in molasses.
But thank goodness we don't have to resort to that kind of experimentation because our brains are already equipped with the perfect cocktail mixer. It's like having your own personal bartender in your head, constantly serving up delicious shots of dopamine, norepinephrine, anandamide, endorphins, and serotonin.
And when we're in flow, it's like we're at the best bar in town, sipping on the most exquisite blend of pleasure drugs that our brains can produce. It's like winning the jackpot in the neurochemical lottery, and we're all in it to win it.
So, let's raise a glass to flow, the most addictive experience on Earth. And who needs drugs when you've got a brain that can mix 'em better than any street dealer? Cheers!
Excellent, excellent comment and analogy. And funny as well being so truthful.
What if what youre doing all day is high intensity?
Hey I just found this channel. I recently started dating my boyfriend and he just revealed to mw his schzophrenia diagnosis, he's been in and out of ghe hospital and he recently got his own apartment. He wants to work, do you rhink this is possible? Can he work and live a normal life.
Yes, many people with schizophrenia work. The more we talk about it, the more we can understand how to help someone with schizophrenia do their job. Look up "The 7 Myths of Schizophrenia" article online, and Lauren Kennedy's "Living Well With Schizophrenia" UA-cam channel, and my best mental health (and schizophrenia) tips at www.MindAid.ca.
Good book to read and fairly recent. The ghost Garden inside the lives of schizophrenia’s feared and forgotten by Susan Doherty. Based on real life people.
@@mindaid Disease-like labels are used to justify the forcing of neurotoxic drugs or even ECT!
hello..iam someone whose closest family member is suffering from schizophrenia at 30 and she has completely withdrawn any contact with me , she doesnt even want my presence and i have no idea how should i react to this or how am i supposed to help her as we are similar aged...i just dont wanna make things worse for her and i want to ease her pain...
Best thing I would say is to take her to get professional help coming from a schizophrenic when you are in psychosis it is near impossible to understand what they are experiencing

Do you know Abram Hoffer and Niacin for Schizophrenia ? I didnt listened your whole video. I don’t have schizophrenia, but depression. I suggest you take a look at his videos. He runned the Saskatchewan mental hospital and used Niacin to treat thousands of people when there was no treatment except ECT.
the prodrome video never came 😢
If you ignore and not believe in the hallucinations and delusions they will lose their power over you.

Would you please share the medication you were on because nothing seems to work for my relative. Thank you and God bless you for the rest of your life

Olanzapine is best medicine for this illness and clozapine
My son was diagnosed with major depression with psychosis symptoms.. he was prescribed olanzapine and it makes me nervous! I don’t want him on meds but his symptoms won’t go away
Absolutely! I was a sad, chaotic wreck before I got olanzapine.

How did the medicine effect the negative symptoms
@@ahmettunc788 For me, my thinking and mood became much, much clearer. I started being more interested in my surroundings and more grounded in reality. That's just my case I know everyone has a different experience.

Does one actually recover from schizophrenia? Isn't it the textbook definition of crazy ?
One simply needs to develop a dedication, a cathexis; along with some life style changes!
