  • In the swamps and forests of Louisiana, a beautiful and rarely seen snake hunts down and constricts some of the most venomous pit vipers in North America. The speckled king snake is undoubtedly deserving of its title, and in this video, we get up close and personal with this incredible reptile!

Man that is a pretty snake! Speckled Kings are very high on my list of snakes that I would like to see, they seem to be such gentle giants as it were, incredibly placid for an animal with that much power. I am absolutely loving your Louisiana series, every new episode makes me want to get down there more! If there was ever a place for a wildlife edutuber super collab, it might be Honey Island Swamp... can’t wait for all the amazing content you have coming down the road, I hope you’re holding up okay and finding things to do in quarantine!

@@TheWildReportOfficial you're welcome... you're living my childhood dream!
I started herping at the age of six! Took the pillow case off my pillow grabbed a bucket and lid and was gone till dinner time. I personally caught every species of non venomous snake in PA almost every species of turtle toad frog and some salamanders too!
The time would pass by and I'd rush home for dinner. I wasn't allowed to keep snakes but they were and still are my favorite animal. I would keep some on the back porch feed them observe them then release them back to where I found them.
All the kids in my neighborhood would come knock on my door and ask if I could please catch a snake for them. Within five minutes we had quite a few.
Anyways... watching your videos takes me back fourty plus years... I love it!

We were at church preparing to enjoy a vegetarian dinner with two films on Depression by Noel Nedler.
Then a lady came in and announced, There’s a snake in the church!
“Great.” I said. “I like snakes” I went out into the hall. Sure enough a greenish snake was inside the church hallway. It didn’t look threatening. It moved its tail back and forth like a rattlesnake might do which made me wag my index finger back and forth which seemed to calm the snake. I reached down in an attempt to pick it up by its tail which cause the snake to move away quickly. It was never my intention to harm the snake. A lady brought a foam board sign out and I took it and ushered the snake outside the church door. I thought the problem was solved. Another lady had a better thought. She got a push broom and used the handle to encourage the snake across the asphalt parking lot into the wooded area. The snake had an adventure and we did too. I searched nonpoisonous snakes in Arkansas. I think it was a speckled king snake who are beneficial to property as the eat pousonious snakes.❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

I discovered that I have a 4ft+ Speckled King living under the handicap ramp when we pulled the old one up to build the new one. The funny part is that under the ramp, that I was aware of, was a litter of kittens just doing their thing only feet away from that huge snake. When we picked the ramp up to find all of the kittens to get them to safety, I pulled up that last portion and almost stepped on the snake. It was just as freaked out as I was. I'm not afraid of king snakes, but you don't take chances here in south Louisiana when you are definitely in the presence of a snake. You get back and THEN identify. We have Cottonmouths, Pygmy Diamondback Rattlesnakes, Black Widow/Brown Widow and Brown Recluse Spiders, and 12ft Alligators where I live. And they say Australia wants to kill you, right? Come on down to South Plaquemines Parish in Louisiana and we'll talk about how terrifying Australia is, haha.

But it was very large bodied. Was it a Speckled King? P.S. I'm just south and west of Fort Smith Arkansas in Poteau, Oklahoma.
