  • This video includes the unboxing, assembly, testing and review of the Cobweb MFJ-1835H antenna (H for the 1.5kW high power version). Too bad the condition of the bands were not good that day, I will make another video when we have better conditions.
    PS, I noticed after I posted the video online that at 7:31 my shack radio (TS-990) is in USB not in AM like the Elad QRP outside. The TS-990 would have read a better signal in AM but not much (2 to 3dB max, just tested on the same frequency), so the signals are still similar. Sorry, my mistake.

    Band conditions have been horrible lately. I did home brew one from instructions off the net many years ago (videos of the build). I should have converted it to break down for field work. But ended up throwing it out. I'm an idiot :) thanks for the review

    I just got one of these new in trade and am going to set it up shortly. Thanks for the video. Luckily, the solar cycle is much better now.

    Really enjoyed thank you for your presentation you did a great job putting that together I would have been confused but some people are just meant to do certain things than others thanks again from Atlanta Georgia

    Looks like you had a little helper. Now is the time to start teaching him in a Fun way so that he thinks it's a game. That is what Dad did to me Took my first test @ age 13 and by age 17 I was an Extra but to make a very long story short things kept getting in the way like girls and trucks.So I put my sholder to the stone and started pushing again...Nice video you made putting the antenna together look easy I may get one for myself.Say HI to the little one for me

      Hi John, I took my time building this antenna and it was fun. Think of it of a half wave dipole folded around, so you get low SWR and a horizontal polarization in a very limited space. My helper in this video is my youngest son, he’s 9, I have an older one which is now a teen (13). Both are interested in technologies like myself, but with computers. Maybe someday they will be interested, I know that if my dad had a station like mine I would have been in it all the time ;-) 73 Pascal VA2PV

    Based on your testing @ 10ft the antenna proform quit well. Is the antenna installed at higher height now?

    That cobweb is impressive especially not elevated it seems to consistently work miracles against much higher end antennas and height I'm gonna do that antenna uts beco m.j e an easy choice.Ke6iev Kenny 73

      If you have a clear area to installed it, you will get a good dipole performance with it. In my case it was good in between my neighbour and my house, but in my back yard it was not high enough to clear my roof, and the south direction was blocked. 73

    Was about to take my last item from Verizon to the range, a heads up on loss of audio would be nice.

    is it necessary for me to buy an ant. analyzer to set this up or is the swr ok without fine tuning?

    You are on Canada if I remember. How do you think this antenna will handle freezing rain? Or will it just collapse?.

      Hi Alessandro, I was nit very active and band conditions not very good as well. If you put this antenna up in the air it will give you the same performance as a half wave dipole on each bands. 73 Pascal VA2PV

    So is the SWR low enough that you do not need a wide range external tuner, but most internal tuners, like a FT-991, can fine tune the SWR???

    • @Laboenligne
      @Laboenligne  6 років тому

      Correct, it's like a dipole so there's a match on all band. You can adjust the length as you wish for each band center frequencies. An internal tuner of any modern rig will let you operate on all the band frequencies. So the answer is YES. Please subscribe! 73 Pascal VA2PV

    Do you find it to be a quiet antenna and how useable is it from a f/b and forward gain ratio?

    • @Laboenligne
      @Laboenligne  7 років тому

      Hi Brian, this is not a directionnal antenna. It's omnidirectionnal. Seam equivalent of my Yagi, but wihout good conditions on HF it's hard to say. I'm waiting for my remote coax switch and then I will set it up permanently stay tune for another video with more details. 73 Pascal VA2PV

    Whats the difference between the lo power and hi power besides the price , and, instead of music, tell us what your doing!

    • @Laboenligne
      @Laboenligne  7 років тому

      Hi, I'm pretty sure it's all in the balun and maybe the distance between the wires. We would have to ask MFJ for the details. 73 Pascal VA2PV
