    I'll stick with an endfed wire antenna......after many years with Yagi's and towers, I like it simple now..... 73/K6SDW

    Let's hear it for live TV!
    Pro tip: when you're dealing with an object where 99% of the mass is at one end and you're trying to manipulate it vertically at the end that's the 1%... Big fun is guaranteed. :)
    Glad your cameraman thought fast.

    I think I'm going to start anodizing or painting all my nuts and bolts bright orange. Should make 'em easier to find in the grass!🙂

      I start with putting a dot with a paint marker in white before I begin.

    Those light duty springs are a good idea to keep the elements tensioned however they're not going to survive the first ice storm in the Northeast United States. The weight of ice on the elements will stretch the springs out and the additional diameter that would be added to the elements coated in ice will substantially increase the wind loading on the elements and the mast/guy system.

    I had similar issues on 20m and 40m tuning an Octopus. I only had it 18' or so high, so the R value was low on those bands. Remembering that offsetting the feed point increases the feed point resistance, I moved it 3" at a time by extending one side and shorting the other, and the SWR came right down. Can't do anything about the low bandwidth due to hi-Q, but at least no tuner required.

    Wondering if some wind chimes from the dollar store, or a bag a jingle bells (Walmart or Joanne's) hanging on the guy wires might spook the deer away?

    Crazy as it sounds, it looks like a good family project. Kids workin with the old man, elbow knowledge along the way. That’s kinda cool. That said, it looked kinda dangerous

    Dave, did you ever do a comparison between your other antennas? I could not find it in your archives.

    Better to put the antenna and mast together laying on the ground with the bottom connected to a pivoting base, and then walk it up and lock the base. I use the same kind of surplus military mast on a wooden pivoting base that I built to support my dipole antenna. I can put it up myself, and it's much safer. It's also easy to bring it down to work on it if I need to.

    Wish it was possible to order one of these antennas. It appears this company has gone out of business just as quickly as they started.

    You have more problems with deer messing up your antennas. Need to make those deer into venison in your freezer.

    Seriously, a hard hat is only $6. If that mast came down while you were guying it....You read the QST article on tower safety?

    SWR for 40m would probably improve with more height... It is a nice antenna though. 👍

    Wondering if the high of the antenna is affecting the swr. That's the recommended high for this antenna?

    • @hornhospital
      @hornhospital 2 роки тому

      Like Dave always says, Rule 1 of antennas is everything affects everything, and Rule 2 is height matters.

    I'm trying to get my antenna game up to speed. I mentioned in another comment that I'm running the Alpha-Delta DX-CC dipole (82ft long). I know for a fact that it needs to come up off the ground more than it is. But I'm curious about the analyzer. I'm assuming it doesn't care about radiation patterns and it's calculating strictly resonance. So the analyzer wouldn't care about the antenna height. Is that correct? I don't want to spend $400+ on something that's not going to work because of a problem I already know I have. Still.. if I want to dial in whatever antenna I'm using, it'd sure be nice to have an analyzer.

    • @davecasler
      @davecasler  2 роки тому +1

      The analyzer measures the parameters of an "in situ" (installed) antenna. Moving the antenna up or down or to a different spot will affect SWR and the analyzer will measure that.
