I taught myself to swim at 45. Decided I had enough of being afraid of the water, got in the pool and brute forced my way thru it. Went to the pool 2x a week non-stop for many months and was able to get from one side to the other without drowning. Now, I'm teaching myself to lap swim, it's taking much longer but improving a tiny bit every week. I should take formal lessons, but I'm a bit embarrassed at my age.
nice work!! and i think it’s very admirable and encouraging to see anyone take lessons regardless of their age! keep up the good work
Well done Jimbo on teaching yourself to swim.
I have just started had my first
Swimming lesson as I want to improve my swimming I am 59
Tomorrow. It doesn't matter how
Old you if you think having swimming lessons will help you
Go for it.
Don't be embarrassed to take swimming lessons. I'm in my early forties and also taking swimming lessons with another lady in her forties. At least you're tackling your fears. Well done on your progress!
Don't be embarrassed! It is so awesome you took the initiative to learn something new. The only people who judge are the ones who are afraid to do what you are doing. I'm so happy for you! Blessings 💙
Well done Jimbo, I'm 35, it's never too late to start over or to start something new. Get yourself to some lessons, it will build your confidence and you'll love it
I only learned to swim two years ago at 46, and love spending time in the pool now! These are all great tips and I also recommend 1:1 lessons for adults, as I was very nervous and my teacher was great at building my confidence.
Great to hear you were brave enough to learn as an adult, it isn't easy!
I felt like such a tool, spluttering around, but now I do a minimum of 750m sprint tri distance every time 👍🏻
Thank you I'm almost 30 and want to learn for my baby. So we wont have to wait for dad or someone to come home to enjoy the water. But I'm embarrassed and have anxiety.
I learnt to swim at 36 just because i want to learn new skill and love to spend my time in the pool too 😍 i wonder why i didnt learn earlier.
I'm 28 now and trying to learn with a class of other students. I'm loving the experience as it's a good challenge to learn something really wonderful and useful. Kudos to you to try learning at 46. You're an inspiration
I started like this in a small hotel pool and trained up to Olympic distance in about a year. Swimming that far in open water terrified me at first but now I love it.
Well done, that's a fast progression.
How long you were in that hotel pool?

Come back here to say thank you. I’ve tried to learn swimming by myself for more than a week.
I learn the breaststroke but I was struggling to breathe while doing it . Every time I head up to get a breath, my body sinks deeper. It makes me panicked and couldn’t swim further.
But after watching your video, I find myself more confident in water, I know how to make myself float. It makes me calmer even when my body sinks deep.
And as a result, I finally know how to swim breaststroke!!! I can swim, breathe, swim, breathe without no issue!
Thank you so so much for your instruction video! It is simple and easy to follow but very effective!
after watching 20 videos, this one is the simpliest and most effective. Thank you
Great thank you so much I'm only a few minutes in I'm 19 and want to find a new hobby. Im thinking swimming or boxing.
Wow thats cool.. mee too im gonna be 19 soon so I have to acquire one like this ...😄😄
Dawg same I’m a bit older but I been trying to find a hobby and I think this skill would be something to try to master!
@@thearlowolf7336 Yup definitely....but since its lock down mostly here..its a bit hard to go out too..lol 😌😌😌Anyways pretty soon
@gabriel kanaan Haha.. Yeah😁😁✨✨
Both Sports are Great!
Thanks for this, I've got a great cycling background, but I'm a terrible swimmer. Trying to get good swimming has been a struggle.
It takes time, stick at it and you'll get there, it's worth it for sure!
Thank you! It took me an hour to swim using your techniques.
I started swimming lessons today and everyone except me did well. My teacher was so friendly. I hope I'm able to swim properly
How's progress ?
I overcame my fear of drowning by learning how to swim from UA-cam coach last year after I moved to a place with a community pool that only 3 ppl use regularly. I am retired so older but it can be done. I love my daily pool time, weather hot or cold (our pool is heated).
Thank you! I'm getting into running fitness again but swimming is the Achilles' Heel I'm trying to overcome. I'll be using some of these practices to encourage my confidence in the water!
thanks for the video. I learnt to swim quite late as a child. The breathing/ability to exhale underwater thing wasn't taught to me properly so I've been comfortable swimming on my back but not really on the front.
Working on it.
Great, keep up the hard work, it will be worth it.
Are you learning to swim? Let us know how you're getting on 👇
Global Triathlon Network what’s the normal temperature for an indoor pool? And why?
I actually teach beginner lessons for swimming. On the program they never mention of doing DOGGING PADDLE! I might do this with my beginner students this week.
@@user1name1here Great question, it can vary a lot! Most training pools are between about 24-27 degrees Celcius, however leisure pools can often be as warm as 33 degrees Celcius! Training pools are colder as it can be uncomfortable to train in a hot pool, especially when swimming longer efforts. If you're just in the pool for fun however, it needs to be warm enough that you don't get cold!
I am a brginner swimmer, as soon as i try and stroke my legs sink, i run out of breath fast😔
This video is so relaxing just looking at that beautiful spa looking pool that's probably all warm... chlorine smelling steamy air... The lapping of the water.... 😴

You guys do a really good job with your quality of content. Love it
Glad you enjoy it, thanks.
Thank you so much for this lesson. I think you're a great teacher!
When u hit the bottom of the pool start walking, thats my tip for u. Oh, and dont eat yellow snow, another good tip. A good cycling tip, ride 59-11 to improve ur speed.
What is 59-11 ? Excuse my ignorance.
Doggy paddle is so underrated. It is a powerful drill to develop an effective catch for freestyle swimming.
You are a good teacher it actually works
Excellent video! Thank you!
Your videos are very easy to follow, thank you 🙂. Sending you love and light ❤️✨
Hi I have swimming lessons on Monday and I've never went so I am nervous.I almost drowned the first time but pray to God these will help me and guide me to be able to swim😬😬
How was it? I have a lesson on Saturday and feeling nervous
This basic training was perfect, I'm learning by seeing your video. thank you for the basic video. 😊
I like the accent. A very lovely instructor. Thanks my dear.
Thanks great info. 🏊♀️ ❤️
Ty so much i will try this
I'm having anxiety just watching, but I plan on learning before the year is over.
Did u do it yet? How did it go? I have anxiety about it too.
Yea same
@@oneshoerr no I haven't 😪
You are such an amazing teacher ❤️
I am only 12 and I have no idea how to swim but I need it for school and this video has really taught me a lot I am so glad this exists
Thank you i want to learn too i'll keep watchin the channel
As someone who nearly drowned as a child “relaxing with your head under the water” is pretty difficult to do.
This is quite good. I watched this video just to see what is being taught and the two things that stood out to me is being relaxed and being able to float. I can't remember being taught to be relaxed but definitely remember being taught how to float. Being relaxed just happened over time. Thanks.
Thank you for teaching me how to swim and float my instructor taught me terribly and I needed to know how to do it myself if she wasn't going to teach me. Once I fell into the deep end and almost drowned until a life guard got me and saved me. I always had a fear of water ever since.
Yeah same swimming really depends on the instructor and situation. I had one who dropped me randomly in the pool. Then I panicked and something happened so we had to quit the instructions. Horrible place to leave off and now Im working on overcoming the fear water because I want to try to learn how to swim again.
@Crystal Blush but she lost my trust to trust people, because she basically drowned me on purpose. She got arrested the following day
@@melwo_gg I understand kinda hard to forgive people who try to hurt you. Though I want to tell you that God is in control. Also it seems like you can trust me so hey we are both now already on a good start :))
@@crystalblush8344 for sure
You cold try swimming whit a friendo Who help you, you can do it
Thank you!
Thank you 😊
Thanks a lot for this !
They have a indoor pool! Wow living the luxury
I've been terrified of the water for decades, these exercises are perfect!
Here in Germany, I was tought breast stroke in my childhood and I am still angry about this, because after I have been some years in a swimming club it should be the crawl style to be taught first. It really could safe your life. Most people here think, that they can keep theire head above the water, while swimming. But in a life threatening situation, crawl is, what could get you out.
super video !! got to know WHEN to hit the wall with legs for momentum.....after literall scanning 999+ other videos
Thanks for this video.!
this is very timely. i have been swimming for more than a year now but i still need to have confidence in swimming in deep waters... thanks heather and team. :)
Great, keep up the hard work Gary, it'll be worth it.
thanks--it worked
Thanks ♥️
Thanks ❤️👍
thanks mate . that was lovely .
Blimey someone who actually knows what they're talking about and actually does beginner skills for BEGINNERS.
So many channels on here say something like "5 top best drills for beginners" and then expext them to do a length with fins...wtf
I also like how you've said doggy paddle instead of going straight onto frontcrawl/freestyle. Basoc doggy paddle is alot more important than people realise.
Thank you
I learned to breathe underwater at school. It has proved to be really useful I don't know why it isn't more widely taught
HELP WHAT
I wish the last swimming teacher i tried was as thorough and communicative as you. If she had been I would not have given up trying to learn !
Thank you this helped alot me and my class go to swimming lessons I'm a good swimmer but struggle with this
I’m getting back into swimming soon 🥳
I have come to watch this critical lesson because I nearly got drowned in a 7ft pool, Cyril came to my rescue, thank you for this video, I would go back and try from a shallow depth
I’ve got swimming in a few days you welcomed me a lot beautiful 😻
Bro I'm so bored I want to learn swimming
Same bro!!😂
going swimming now!
Awesome video
This all sounds scary to me
Were doing a swim unit in school and im not really not able to relax whenever trying to float without hanging onto anything but im trying my best and next time we swim, during free time im gonna try these
I don't really know how to swim well and I have been looking to improve my skills as I am currently training for the position of Lifeguard at a water park.
Nice dear its really helpfull to me. Thanks
TY.
This is helpful
Very useful video
I went to a course before, but I’m now just trying to learn new stuff
OMG I know swimming thank you
I never realized how much of a useful skill this was... Im trying to learn it , also Because its part or the application for the police 😅 need to learn it ASAP haha
I want to learn to swim as well I never got to learn as a kid im 20 now and im inspired.
Thank you for the video. I am having problems with breathing. Do you blow out through mouth or nose?
Because of you I learned how to swim ty for making this video!🙂
Beautifully explained 🙏
Nice vidéo, Thanks!
Little advise, correct the title on the video's cover image. "IMROVE" per "IMPROVE" if I guess well.
I took the phone with me to watch the videos and now it's full of chlorine and water
Any tips for keeping my head out of the water during doggy paddle? When I attempt it the front of my body sinks in
Just master the style you can control and get going
Im trying to teach myself to swim off UA-cam and im a bit embarrassed to be an adult that doesn't know how. I don't want to look stupid when i get in the pool. 😅 The doggy paddle isn't seen as dumb or for kids? I was always made fun of for trying to learn to doggy paddle when i was younger.
Its never too late to learn, we all start from somewhere 😊.
Wow ma'am you are amazing swimmer swimming underwater in a swimming pool
Thank you. But glad that you are also aware that this is information overload 😂
I'm quite screard when I feel water deeper than my height. Need some recommendations 🙏

@Maria Benita one of the reason for is that my country have ocean .
What about urs
Me too! Actually anything up to my chest frightens me. 😢
I'm learning how to swim but my left leg refuses to lift. Thanks for the tips. I'll use them in my lesson. I'm feeling confident after watching this xx
Good luck!
I was having the same issue I started pushing off from the bottom of the pool. Left leg automatically came up.
I can't swim but I've been in the pool twice just standing up like a fool i don't know if it's my low self confidence that I'm unable to learn and lack of methods .thank you for your video I'll try my level best next time ...wish me luck
I knows how you feel, you're noa a fool, I thinking what I'm doing here, keep trying
I’m comfortable with swimming but this is still really cool. It’s the open water swimming that makes me scarred lol
There'll be more to come on open water in a few months time.
Heather Fell YAAAAS!
Watching this whilst staring at the water in the pool😭😂
Fantastic content! Thanks for sharing the joy of swimming! I also believe everyone can master swimming, and 'How to Swim 2.0' is all about accelerating that comfort in water. It's never too late, and we shouldn't have to break the bank to feel at ease in deep waters. Excited to connect and share the love for swimming! 🌊✨ #SwimCommunity #HowToSwim2.0
How. Do u stay on top of the water since we ever I swim I go down into the water
Breathe in before you do tt and don't let the air escape

No matter what i try, i am not able to float. My legs always sink :(
It can be tricky, have you ever tried swimming in the sea or in a wetsuit, both help with buoyancy.
@@heatherfell_oly I am still a newbie and only tried swimming in a pool and without wetsuit.
@@thomask2092 Have you tried using a float / pull buoy between your legs to help float?
@@heatherfell_oly Hey Heather, thanks for your reply. Yes I use the pullbuoy frequently. I am able to float with it and swimming is so much easier with it. I am even faster with the pullbuoy although I don't use my legs.
I heard to kick your feet
I try and try but it’s still hard! 😓😓
I tried to sink like you showed but I kept floating back up. Why is this?
I'm guessing you weren't exhaling. You can't sink if you don't breathe out the air in your lungs.
i can’t move myself when i try but i’m completely calm when i’m in the water and i can’t get water in my ears or else i would kind of panic bc i’m not used to it
Me too. Water in my ears makes me panic and inhale. 😢
She’s good at swimming
♥️😊
Good ❤
I am learning how to swim
I'm watching this in my bed because i do have tomorrow i swimming lesson
My teacher said that were gonna swim tomorrow and then I just went to look at how we swim😂
