oh I never knew there was a UK version of this show with a British accent narrator. Lol but of course there is! And now that I am thoroughly fascinated, my knock-on questions include but are not limited to - how did they carve/chisel the curling stones before modern industrial processes? Like in the early 1900’s? How can such a high demand for many curling stones exist as to justify the expense of all that industrial computerized manufacuring? lol I guess maybe curling must be way way way more popular in other parts of the world than I previously realized! Very cool.

i used to live at the town where they get the stone from. trust me they still blast the rocks up there. but there is loads of heaps of stones like the ones from the old quarry there. the town is Penmaenmawr check it out on google earth or maps. has a lot of stone age stuff all over the mountains and an old stone circle they have been hacking away at the mountain and leveling it off lol.
from what i remember there is only 2 locations where this kind of stone is harvested for curling stones. nice place to visit.

Considering new findings where it looks like they have sawed in to the material at rather high speeds it left the scientists kinda speechless. But this pulli system makes sense and it could also be operated and run by humans. Not the top speed ofc, but im sure it would have worked out nicely.

    • @highviewbarbell
