- We start our summer in Alaska in Fairbanks! Fairbanks is Alaska's second largest city and the coldest city in North America. While it does get the coldest, its probably the warmest city in Alaska during the summer since its in interior Alaska, not by the coast. We explored the Northernmost botanical garden in North America - Georgeson Botanical Garden. Grabbed some delicious pizza for lunch. We had to see Pioneer Park and we loved walking around and checking out all the historic log homes that were moved here. And we end the day with a delicious dinner at an awesome restaurant that serves Eastern European cuisine, something we are both familiar with.
We are so excited to finally be in Alaska after the longest journey getting here. If you enjoyed the video, give it a "like" & subscribe if you haven't already. We'd love to have you!

Aww 🥲 hope you get a chance to come back but at least you will have 9 years in a place you love.
Hi I live in Fairbanks
Hi 👋 really cool! what are your fav spots in Fairbanks?
I lived in Fairbanks for 30 years. Now live in Mississippi due to increasing costs and long cold winters, not to mention the lack of decent dividend payments to help defray the cost of living in Alaska. Glad I moved out. I didn't want to but had no choice. I now golf all year round and enjoy the warm weather!! I do miss the beauty of the state.
@@glennm9307 Is it really that expensive in Alaska? What was the most expensive? Housing? Services? Groceries and gas?
@@diamondsandtherust All are expensive. Shipping goods to Alaska is expensive. Consumer pays for it!
@@diamondsandtherust All are expensive. Shipping goods to Alaska is expensive. Consumer pays for it! Fuel Oil to heat your house (@ $3.50 plus or minus a gallon). We went through on average 1500 gallons a year to heat our house. Electric bill appox. $200 a month. Property tax $4000 a year. It's not cheap. The dividend doesn't even make a dent in what you pay to live there. You better have a good paying job lined up before you move there!
Just curious, did you visit North Pole Alaska when you were in Fairbanks? It’s about 20 miles out of town and a quirky little community all its own with a year-round Christmas theme.
Yes we did! Probably should have included it in this video since it’s so close but decided not to since it’s a different town.
@@NickandJulie Different but not really separate. Like a lot of towns in California that aren’t LA but have merged into it. I understand. I graduated from North Pole High School. And sadly, because of its size, North Pole probably doesn’t rate a video all its own. Did you make it up to another local sight, Chena Hot Springs?
5 years in Barrow and settled in North Pole

Okay!
Alaskaland, not pioneer park.
Did they rename it this year?
@@NickandJulie No, the Traditional name we refuse to relinquish, on one of the buildings they have an old map of Alaskaland back in the day. the powers that be changed it because it sounded like an amusement park.
