      802blues is right Cap10. Rory Gallagher is the reason Brian May uses a VOX AC30. When Rory was in Taste, Brian asked how he got his tone. Rory explained it was the boost he used in conjunction with an AC30. Rory moved on to other amps when he went solo, but his sound in Taste inspired The Edge who till this day uses an AC30.

      ***** It's exactly the opposite, all the old vids were "unnatural" and the new ones are much more fluid and natural with more frames per second. Chances are you're so used to tv/cinema/30fps vids that you find real movements on screen "strange".

    I think some of you guys are being really unfair on the reverb - OK, its just a fairly cheap internal digital reverb but it sounds OK & lets not forget, the whole amp costs less than the Strymon Bigsky reverb pedal!! If you don't like the internal reverb just turn it off!

      CaptAnderton Points in favor of digital reverb:
      * Nearly all reverb pedals are digital, and people like those just fine.
      * Every cheap tube amp should have digital reverb thrown in because why not?
      * The spring unit in my AC30 sounds nice, but its weak (like a lot of non-Fender reverbs) and only adds a little extra depth to the sound. To get a more noticeable effect, I'd have to use a pedal anyway.

      CaptAnderton Actually, I like the digi-reverb better than my spring reverb on the ac15, and this is after I put in an accutronics tank! I am a big fan of this amp!

  • @hyperliteBo

    I'm glad that Rob pointed out that giggable and rehearsable isn't the same, a lot of confusion about that.

    • @Dagger_323
      @Dagger_323 7 років тому +3

      hyperliteBo regardless though he was dead wrong. This amp is Class A and 10 watts. It's true that the 10 inch speaker doesn't move a lot of air, but for rehearsing in a confined space, 10 watts of Class A tube volume is plenty loud enough for most bands. Plug it into a 2x12 and you've got enough volume for pretty much anything...

  • @markbowenagates1987
    @markbowenagates1987 6 років тому +2

    I just bought one of these. The 10 inch Celestion speaker in this amp sounded way bigger than the 12" Greenbacks in the AC15C1 that was sitting right next to it. I went in to the store looking to by an AC15C1 and ended up buying this. It just simply sounded better than the AC15C1!

  • @Vbluguitar
    @Vbluguitar 7 років тому +44

    Oh and for what its worth - in order to double an amps output, you have to multiply wattage by 10. So a 10 watt amp is only 1/2 as loud as a 100 watt amp, not 1/10th as loud. I love when people are shocked by how loud a 10 watt amp is.

    • @voxpathfinder15r
      @voxpathfinder15r 7 років тому +1

      Well it doesn't sound half as loud as a 100 watt Marshall stack, but for some reason people never realize you can use the line out and feed the same stack - and then it's half as loud! Sometimes total wattage seems to matter very little, it's more about the speaker setup being used.

    • @3FlyingFarts

      I used to use ( until it died after 100,s of gigs and touring ) a Fender Champ 12 onstage and those are serious volume monsters , and I put a Celestion Greenback in it . At the loudest time onstage I had the master on the drive channel at maybe 1.5 and even then I was getting dirty looks from the rest of the band .

      Israel D They can't please everyone but I get what you mean. In all honesty I wish they would be able to run all of the guitars I own through that amp for me to get a good grip on what it would sound like, but that's impossible for them. Chapman guitars are built with high-end tech and construction so it makes sense Chappers would want to make sure he could get the best sound out of the amp for us to hear. These review videos should be more of an incentive to go try it out yourself, and not to decide if you want one for sure yet.

      @@versnellingspookie Yes, it is louder than a kit when turned up, but you'd have very little headroom to play clean as it breaks up pretty early - it would be with breakup/distortion only at these levels. One option would be to use a 1x12 or 2x12 external speaker cabinet to maintain a clean tone and give more versatility.

    8:00 REEF!!!!! Huge fan, too bad nobody on this side of the Pond knows who they are. I was lucky to see them on the Glow tour in a tiny club in Vancouver. They absolutely slayed.

    In my experience your clean guitar/amp will sound vastly different when the amp's drive is turned low and the guitar volume turned up. What you're doing is choking the signal - not giving a good representation of the actual sound of the amp. So if you're going to demo a clean sound, please don't be lazy and dial in the amp correctly. Otherwise, don't bother - or don't call it clean.

    A tube upgrade and a speaker change makes it even better! Definitely better than the AC4.

    • @bobbystereo936

      Could you tell me what type of speaker you upgraded? With a closed back cabinet Vox didn't leave much room for a speaker swap.

      6 years later I'd recommend a 10" cream back, which weren't made back then. Or speaker-out to a cabinet with anything you like, even a 4 x 12" for stadiums if you're a rockstar!

  • @angrycheese
    @angrycheese 7 років тому

    I use two of these AC10's thru a Fender ABY pedal. I replaced the stock speakers with ten inch Greenbacks in both and it's the best sound I've ever had, they are plenty loud enough for pubs & clubs.

    • @pharmerdavid1432
      @pharmerdavid1432 Рік тому

      I'm putting a 10" cream back in mine, but this is five years later when Celestion makes this version. It has 96 decibel sensitivity, less than the greenback, so I can get into the sweet zone at a lower volume at home. Cheers!

    Love your videos! I am trying to decide between the AC10 and the AC4. You gave both solid reviews, and both sound great in your videos. I don't know if I would use the built-in reverb on the AC10, and I don't have the need for tons of volume, so I'm leaning toward the AC4, but if the sound quality of the AC10 is considerably better in the room it might be enough to go that route. What would your thoughts be on this comparison? Thanks!
