  • My new Drone arrived this morning! Less than 12hrs before this video was uploaded! This video is a real unboxing, first fly at my house and then a second fly out at Harcourt MTB Park.
All of this was shot, edited and uploaded in less than 8hrs!The DJI Mini 3 is my second drone, a smaller lighter option for travelling instead of taking my Mavic 3 Classic.
But if you are looking for your first drone, this DJI Mini 3 is perfect and it’s currently on sale in Australia!Special guests are Wombat and two of his boys, Nate and Harvey. They are the ones that can actually ride bikes…..

You got a lot to learn.
$500 is NOT cheap. 99% of the world's population can't afford it. We'll put you on water and bread for a month.
And I'm not sure the Mini 3 is that great for your mtb rides. The controller is too big. What would work is a split controller left/right on your handlebars. Unfortunately there is no such drone. But at least a smaller controller is more useful.
The Mini 3 does not have active-track. And no DJI drone has follow-me. Ridiculous. Just shows the people at DJI don't know how things work in real life. Not that I am against active track. You can get really nice shots with it. But follow-me is much more reliable and predictable. You don't need obstacle avoidance. Few people will risk their $1000 anyway in between trees and stuff. Those who do all crash it.
You can however buy Litchi, Maven, or Dronelink. Then you will have both optical tracking ( more or less) and follow-me. I'm not sure which app is already compatible with the Mini 3.
Now, what would be a better beginner drone? How about my $100 L200? not saying it's a DJI. But it's great value for money for people on a budget. And it has follow-me. Even flying it with the sticks works pretty good while riding a bike.

Really appreciate the detailed comment, I guess I should have explained that I only considered DJI drones because I understand their ecosystem and wanted to use my remote.
Maybe I can give you some advice, don’t start off your comment with ‘you’ve got a lot to learn’ as it immediately puts me on defense. I was going to dismiss it hate trolling and then when I read the rest of your comment I realised there was some good info in there.
Also please don’t try to make me feel bad for labeling DJI’s cheapest drone (currently discounted too) as cheap.
It’s far cheaper than my Mavic 3.
Of course for many people around the world even the cheapest drone is out of their budget, probably all the drones you suggested are also too expensive for many.
So get off your high horse about that sort of stuff, if you want to ‘put me on bread and water for a month’ maybe you should first look at yourself before judging others.
Oh and as I mentioned I’m a professional MTB videographer so I do have some idea of how this drone works in that situation, but again thanks for your insights.

@@Justin-Castles Be glad you didn't recommend a Mini 4 Pro as a beginner drone for kids to learn to fly. Those 'experts' I call complete idiots immediately.
A real beginner drone is a $20 tiny whoop they can crash against the wall thousands times. That is how you start. No GP, optical flow, not even altitude hold. Because no matter how advanced your drone is, in the end the best shots are done manually. I've seen some many people crash with DJI's active-track. What is usable is follow-me. Not just for shots, but also in between shots to keep the drone near you. Sadly very few programmers got it right. It has nothing to do with the price. I have a $130 drone with a near perfect follow-me. I can put it anywhere I want and it will stay north south east west. I can use the sticks, do fly by's etc, and it even auto updates homepoint. Together with a nice small controller I can tie to my handlebar with a bungee it is far more reliable than DJI's swerving all over the place active-track. The best sensors are still in your head you were born with. But you don't learn how to fly with a DJI GPS drone. And certainly not with 360 auto track! That's asking for trouble. Stupid people use it next to busy roads missing cars by a fraction. They in particular should learn how to fly with a $20 toy.
