  • In this video, we take you through a unique process to lacing the Yamaha SR250 spoked front wheel. This is the single sided drum brake version of the SR250 front wheel - often found on the Specials and Exciters.
    **IMPORTANT**
One thing we missed in this video was using some form of anti binding/anti seize paste - like copper or aluminium paste from CRC or LOCTITE. We have used this on other wheel builds but it was just so messy for a demonstration video. Not 100% necessary, but certainly recommended.
And the other important thing is that you should get your wheel checked by a professional once you have laced it up if you don't feel confident about your own effort/skills. We usually do this at the time of having a tyre put it - just for the extra peace of mind. Another bonus of having it checked and a tyre put on by a shop is that the tyre will get balanced on the rim.

Hey, i'm thinking of converting the front from 19 disc to 18 inch wheel, so that I could have a better choice of sportier rubber. Why did you stick with the drum brake, i hear its horrendous (the disc brake is already terrible)

Hi! Switching brake types on the SR250 requires a whole front end swap (either from the SR250 Classic or another bike) and that was not on the cards for this build. Instead, we improved on the existing system :)

@@JadusMotorcycleParts Can't always get what you want. I have classic. But classic still has 19' front wheel, not a lot of good rubber out there for that. Trying to figure out what swap would have 18'. I read people do Virago but thats also 19. Any ideas?

@@JadusMotorcycleParts In fact, i just located that a Suzuki GN 250 has 18 inch front. Wonder if the wheel or Forks are a straight swap? (just in case you know from top of your head) :) On side note - you're doing an amazing job in the SR comunity, thanks!

@@vibemusic7598 Thanks! The only straight swap we know of (that does not require custom triple clamps etc) is the Virago 535 :) But you can always relace the wheels to a different size if you want, so don't get hung up on that.
