From the album Homestuck - Volume 8 available at: homestuck.bandc... ---- Track art by myluckyseven at www.bridgetbougan.com Lotus (Bloom) by Seth "Beatfox" Peelle
If you guys told me that this wasn't from Miyazaki, Joe Hisaishi, any anime classic or a classic Pokemon movie and that it was from Homestuck, I wouldn't believe you.
I hear this song and all I can think of is the moment WQ and WK met each other again... for the final time. It's happy because they've finally gotten to see themselves again, but it's also horribly, horribly sad... because we all know how short their reunion truly was.
Most recognizable, yeah, though the uninitiated would wrongly associate it with Undertale, given that Lotus (and thus, Toby's first remix of it, called "Snow Pollen") were the basis for a specific leitmotif all throughout Undertale. Check out "once upon a time" from the game's OST for an example of what I mean.
@@Caldoric hmm... that's an interesting finding, and i definitely hear the similarities, but i'm not convinced someone who doesn't know their way around music theory would pick up on it that easily. that said, i was into homestuck long before undertale came out, so i _am_ a bit biased.
@@charmikarma9726 oh, I was into Homestuck before Undertale as well. I just have a tendency to try and point out the connection between HS' Lotus/Snow Pollen and UT's Once Upon a Time/His Theme leitmotif, since it's widely underappreciated by most folks who do the comparisons. Additionally, Snow Pollen was Toby's remix of Lotus, which was put together by someone else entirely.
Wow, this is so different from the 8-bit chiptune music style that the Homestuck producers use in most of their pieces of music... I kinda like it. :) It kind of punctures my heart whenever it gets more intense. Noice...
Exactly my thoughts! I really wanna do a Homestuck marching show with my college band. I'm thinking Warhammer of Zillyhoo as a fanfare opening leading into Judgement Day, then this, and ending with Savior of the Dreaming Dead. ...Jegus I'm such a band geek.
Oh jeez oh my heart. I used to listen to this over and over again when I was younger. So pretty! This track still gives me goosebumps in the best way possible.
I can imagine sitting on a hill. It's the climax of night. The whole world is still. And as the wind ruffles the field around me, I lay there, looking up. Up at all the stars gleaming down on Earth. Up at the moon shining brightly for all to see. I look up....and beyond. (That is, however, just my opinion and should not be taken too seriously.)
To me, this song means the characters that died are at peace. But then, you notice the yearning and sadness of the song. So maybe, this song is how they miss everyone? My explanation of this song may sound simple, but... It's just, not...? Imagine this is played for all of the sprites? Erisolsprite, Fefetasprite, Jadesprite, they're all counted as "alive" yet, are they THAT happy. I don't know, you guys should think about my definition of the song :/
The petals fall Brush past time Open, bloom, Sing in melody, rhyme, Burst into full colour, Grow, expand, Follow my steps into dreams, Caressed by the Skaian hand.
And here's a song that rips my heart to itsy bitsy shreds by halfway through and then repairs it by the end. Being a Jade RPer during Gristmas was suffering
@Demonkill4600 @T0mmy9898 This compares the first piano part of the Mana piece and the main theme of Lotus we hear first. First off, they both have a similar rhythm with the bassline consisting of steady quarter notes and melody emphasizing halves. In the second measure of the first part I have both lined up, both pieces start with a G major third triad, making them sound similar until the rest of the chord is fleshed out. Further on, for two consecutive measures they have a D chord and E chord
lotus and land story Lotus Lotus (bloom) 3 song that sound exactly the same but each of them sound bit different. just look at the names. I downloaded all 3 anyway. they are all good
The transition to the original Lotus theme makes me think of the ending of a movie or a video game where everything is being resolved and everything is cheery and stuff and then it fades to white and then it goes to a place from earlier in the story where something meaningful happened and all the characters are there saying goodbye :(
This is one of the few sad songs on my playlist and it (along with the others) ALWAYS seem to go on when I'm sad. It's awful and beautiful at the same time.
This song is so soothing. I could listen to it for years and keep all the negative thoughts away. It helps me see a bright future, where I can smile and say that I am happy. Yet, at the same time, it does have a tone of negativity, that small piece of it saying to me that without darkness there can't be light and without sadness there can't be happiness.
Isn't the lotus showing from the frog temple? Also the same place where WQ and White King met for the last time, right? It's all peaceful, kinda romantic. Then BAM. Jack shows up. Oh god, we all know what happens.
This... is so beautiful. It's like a respite for the players. They get to heal their wounds and recover from all the shit that just happened and give each other strength. So pretty. Great for reading the wounded end of a heroic battle against evil, watching the characers tell each other what a great job they did, and responding with wounded coughing and "you don't say?" So great, but whatever it is it's certainly not Okami. Lacks the eastern style.
@Demonkill4600 @T0mmy9898 I decided to do an analysis of both pieces presumably at the parts where you found the similarities. Here is audio of both parts separate, then over each other, then in the same key: tindeck(period)com(slash)listen(slash)ngib And here is the sheet music where I've marked the areas that might be giving the impression that they are so similar/points of interest: s755(period)photobucket(period)com(slash)albums(slash)xx194(slash)EidolonOrpheus(slash)Comparison(slash)
@blksnowangel54 Lotus Land and Lotus Land story were in the previous albums, as a tribute to Touhou I believe, since there was a Lotus chapter or section with a similar name
@Demonkill4600 @T0mmy9898 but they are of different values, one is major and the other is minor in both cases. Often the first note of the measure is the most emphasized, as in this case, so it obviously stands out. Both are comprised of a lyrical, as you noted, melody line, however the melodies take different paths, and both use similar lower instruments to fill in the rest of the chords in an arpeggiated fashion. However, the similarities are not really that noteworthy, other than
@130cookies You know...they way you described it reminded me how Dave travels thought time searching for an alternate timeline where none of his friends are dead...instead he ends up watching them die over and over again.. Well that's my theory why Dave time travels

@Demonkill4600 @T0mmy9898 the possibility of some influence on beatfox from mana. Perhaps the fact that they are in different keys attribute for their dissonance? When put in the same key, the lines do start on the same chord, but this is common of most music today, starting on the tonic chord of the key. Otherwise, there seem to be few actual musical similarities. While the two may have a similar tone and bear similar rhythmic style(a rather common style, see: Yoko Shimomura and KH themes)
@Demonkill4600 Cool, I want to know too. Also, sorry for the sort of scatteredness of the analyzation, I kind of rushed it between lectures when I was supposed to be studying.
@MACPC07 No? What? The only other tracks in the entirety of the library that I can remember this applying to are the Secret Room song and the unreleased one that was made from the Earthbound levelup music. This is just plain wrong. Some songs are inspired by other sources, like Courser was heavily based on Okami, but almost everything is an original composition.
This gives me a Sword of Mana sort of feel, mixed with some Legend of Zelda (Twilight Princess in particular), Okami, and Studio Ghibli type of things...
This is a direct ripping from something. I recognize that tune, I've listened to it dozens of times.... dammit, what is that from?! Its a town/sadness theme....

It also sounds like something straight from Ōkami, too.

I don't know about anyone else, but this song reminds me A LOT of Ocarina of Time.
Me too!
That game has such an amazing soundtrack.

I'm inclined to agree that this song has zelda vibes- i was just thinking it sounds like something off the breath of the wild soundtrack 😂
