Even though Tencent acquired a majority of the company (if I'm not mistaken), it still operates independently. The company's shares are not publicly traded. The difference between companies' shareholding structures can be night and day in terms of control, transparency, and the level of influence shareholders have over corporate decisions. Investors majorly focus on short term profit, ROI on their investment, they don't really care about player retention or game quality. Clearly GGG does care about those :)
Since monetization is the mantra for a lot of companies, many of them are already looking for ways to squeeze customers out of every last cent before their game is actually released. When you've pre-ordered something, or paid for $100 of early access perks, companies can no longer get leeway for postponing their game releases.

Take a lesson blizzard the game isn’t being delayed because it’s not ready or it needs to add unnecessary shit, but because they are trying to give the best experience to the player to give them the content they have already paid for in the previous game. I never played Path of Exile 1 but this video and their move to delay the release of their second entry in the franchise is nothing to worry about! In fact I would even say this is the most professionell thing to do in this case! I mean it is probably sad news for people that really wanted to play Path of Exile 2 but man... trust me it feels way worse to loose all of your shit then having to wait a few more weeks! When Apex Legends did corss-progression I and many other people lost everything. At that point in time I literally had all cosmetic items available in the game and tons of currency ingame! I lost literally all of it and it took them weeks to fix the issues! That was almost a year ago and just a few weeks ago I was still missing the infamous "heirloom shards" item wich is basicly a less then 0.1% of getting unless you spend 500€ then it is a 100% of dropping... I don't know how many times I had to text EA support over my missing items and sent them god knows how many screenshots even a video of me getting the shards but man I was so pissed when I lost them. I literally had a respawn dev adding me steam talking to me about this and I was refunded the item and got back all things I lost when they introduced cross-progression finally... But the fact that it took from april 24 to basicly last september 24 is insane with people losing hundres of dollars, thousands of hours in terms of level progression and ingame ranked rewards and such...
Exactly what they are trying to prevent. People losing the hundreds and maybe thousands that they have spent with the migration. I guess they’d have a backup and restore all the old data, but to fuck it up on release would cause such a shitstorm everyone would lose faith in them. This is EXACTLY what caused so many problems for Ark Survival Ascended, trying to do crossplay with consoles has wasted so much time and money for developers. And in the end no one really cares.
What it sounds like is that when they are done the entire platform will be united. So your POE1 console purchases should show up in POE1 on PC too. Now I don't know if that's the case, but the work they are doing would enable exactly this scenario unless they arbitrarily don't allow it.
Since it seems like Poe 1 is getting micro transactions moved into 2, I wonder if that means as someone who never played the first one if I’ll be able to buy stuff from the first one

I build data platforms for a living and some of the issues he's mentioning betray enormous weaknesses in their data model and database administration. I would not bet on things going smoothly even with the delay. Especially if some of these simple things (like primary keys and/or unique indexes in your account tables) haven't been addressed in their PoE2 database design. Whatever is loading their caching tier needs to be reading from something with some referential integrity at the least for account data.

God forbid anyone with experience comment on the issues.
I fully agree, once you start finding these kind of issues they never stop coming. Specially because most issues can only be found by testing to see if everything is alright and coming up with niche cases that may be an issue. But then again, we don't know when they started working on it, perhaps this has been an issue for over a year and they are almost done, we can only hope that is the case.
Compare this decision and upfront honesty to WoW's last patch riddled with bugs and problems (and horrid tuning) just because they decided on 8 weeks per patch and 8 weeks it had to be.

What alsp happened with D4 was that a ton a ton of people who never played an ARPG nor a seasonal game before found out that they had to make a new character and some rumor was going around that their characters were going to be deleted so they all left and went to Pal World. I reckon that the majority of D4 players are or were hardcore WoW fans over D2 so D4 took a lot of concepts from WoW more so than D2. WoW was also the DNA of D3.
It will last a while. Also it is pretty confirmed that it won't have ALL the game in Early Access, so I expect that they will add classes, ascendancies and endgame during the Early Access/Closed Beta

It will last a while. Also it is pretty confirmed that it won't have ALL the game in Early Access, so I expect that they will add classes, ascendancies and endgame during the Early Access/Closed Beta
