It's the Japanese tradition when committing suicide by jumping from a great height... You take off your clothes and leave all your belongings on the roof, bridge or whatever. Suggesting that Blunt is committing suicide in the video... that was his plan.

James has admitted to this being about a time he was high (in the original he sang f*cking high but it was changed to flying high) .and saw his ex (not a stranger) with another man. And It got a bit out of control. And yes it's him doing the jump. James also wrote a song about his time in Kosovo, as a tank commander, which is also very moving.

James Blunt is a former reconnaissance officer ( Captain , Company Officer ) in Life Guard Regiment in the British 🇬🇧 Army, he served in under NATO in Kosovo in 1999. Music career began after the war, music help cope what he saw during the war. Amazing artist
You can hear the military jargon in the lyrics of some of his songs. There was no room in the tank for his guitar so he tied it to the turret outside. Everyone knew which tank he was in.

First and biggest hit of James Blunt. He became one of my most loved artists and I have all his albums. Singer and songwriter. Always ready to tell a story and beautifully put to appropriate music. You can really listen to any James Blunt song and find reasons to like it.
Yes 'Monsters' is an incredibly emotional song - also 'Goodbye My Lover' - they are both amazing songs
His song "No bravery" is about his time in Kosovo during the conflict/war. It's soul-crushing but well worth a listen.
His song 1973 is a very feel good song. His whole first album is awesome.
He had already decided to jump before he ever saw her. She was just the last glimmer of beauty and happiness that he could see, but couldn't touch or quite feel in this world. It wasn't just that one beautiful, happy girl. It was all the beauty and all the happiness in the world that he could only sometimes catch glimpses of, but could never really access for himself. Happiness for him was always just observed outside of himself in passing. He probably had trauma and isolation issues since childhood. He died peacfully, imagining at least being close to the happiness she exuded. He knew this co-opted feeling would last him only just long enough to carry him to the end. Which he had decided would be soon. He didn't want to keep going on anymore after that second-hand- happiness inevitably wore off, once again.
(Fortunately, this was only a bad drug trip in James's mind and he didn't really do this.)

James Blunt is a combat solider from the Kosovo War as a tank commander officer. You'll pick up on Veteran mentality in his songs. As most combat veterans , they believe they are on bonus time, The life they are living is a bonus time when they should have died, death happens in a second. Death is always close to combat veterans and it shows in their mentality and James Blunts songs.
His voice is so beautiful. He reminds me a bit of Art Garfunkle -- that lovely choir boy voice.

You just don't get it,he was already going to commit suicide before he even saw her,it was just something in his sub conscious that he saw her on his final journey he didn't kill himself because he couldn't have her,and why didn't you see the obvious signs when he laid his belongings neatly in a row,sure signs that a person's last act before suicide.
