I just scored this machine at a yard sale yesterday for 20 bucks. 😭 God loves me. Lol accessories and everything. Plugged it in and it's so beautiful. I actually cried when I found out what I bought. I just needed a machine. I saw it was old and knew I could fix it. No fixing needed. 😭

I enjoy the variety of machines you show and demonstrate for us. I find I am getting hooked on working on these beautiful older machines. It all started looking for a machine to sew boat upholstery on with a nonexistent budget, LOL. and turned into me buying 10-dollar machines in cabinets that were wrecks on the way to the scrap heap. All were absolutely nasty. I spray with 99.99% alcohol and then ammonia vinegar then rinse then compound then wax all have come to a lustrous shine. Freed up adjusted and gears replaced. You and a few others have been an invaluable resource for me in my endeavor. I have given away 2 restored machines in cabinets to family members and now own 9 machines. My latest restore is a Singer 201-2 given to me to save it from the metal scrap yard. A complete frozen up teardown and old shellac removal it is now a beauty and except for a few parts I have ordered it runs perfectly. Next will be a Singer foot powered Treadle Sewing Machine. Very satisfying to save these treasures from destruction. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and experience it is invaluable. I look forward to your videos and again, thank you for your efforts.

I also find it very satisfying to bring these machines back to life. I have sewn all of my life. Started at about 5 years old, hanging on the edge of my mothers 66. She would give me her scraps and I would make doll clothes. Fast forward 50 years and covid, I found myself at home 24/7....I am a tinkerer. Have to stay busy. My eldest son gave me the confidence to completely dive in. Thank you for watching my videos and the compliments. It is my pleasure!!

I believe my recently acquired 401a is a slant needle. Are they all slant needle and if not, how do I know if buttonholer and other presser feet are actually for this machine? Thank you for any info you might offer.

@@constancemoody8669 you will ne able to tell if the accessories will fit, if the clamp for the pressor foot bar is slanted. I do have some slant accessories for sale. Email me I'd you would like to discuss purchasing

Please help me. I would like to know how needle position in front to back axle is adjusted on this machine. ❤

Question: When you try to move the needle position, it does not move? Also, are you also not able to complete zig zag or decorative stitches??

@@luchosuarez3597 it could be a number of things. Clean and oil the maxhine. Is the belt in good shape? Could also be a faulty pedal. My money os the maxhine needs a thorough cleaning and oiling.

Hi, thank you for the informative video! I have the opportunity to buy this model without accessories for $50. I would like to be able to sew heavier weight fabrics such as lightweight vinyl or lightweight leather. I'm thinking bag making. Id prefer to find a heavy duty vintage machine that i can afford, if possible. Is this machine considered heavy duty? Someone told me not much room for thicker fabrics under the presser foot? Thank you for any input you may have!

I hope you bought that 401A-mine can handle practically any kind of fabric. It runs so smoothly, too. It’s better than a boyfriend, ha-ha!

@@sewingintrifocals-alisonde7778 😂 love that boyfriend comparison!!! Too funny! Thank you for your reply! I'd forgotten that I ever commented here! I didn't end up purchasing the machine I referenced in my comment but found another 401A for $20 no accessories, no cams, but I bought it. THEN, back in May I found another 401A, in a cabinet with manual, cams and ALL extra feet for $6.99 at my local Savers thrift store!!! I couldn't believe my luck! I sold the first one I bought as I have several other vintage machines, too! After finding this steal at 6.99 I had achilles tendon repair surgery the very next week😭 Had a bit of a rough recovery so I'm embarrassed to say I haven't even sat down to sew on the 401A yet. Life is finally getting back to normal and I'm actually looking forward to fall and winter when I'll have more time to sew! Thx again for your comment! 😁
