  • I put the Dagger Katana 9.7 kayak to the test with an 18-mile paddling trip on Fremont Lake in Pinedale, Wyoming. Loaded with gear, I set out for an overnight adventure in the scenic Wind River Range.
    To see whitewater footage of the Katana in action: • Dagger Katana 9_7 (Fal...

    At last! Someone taking out the Katana 9.7 for an overnight trip!
    Every video Ive seen takes the bigger Katana! And it looks like you had plenty of room for camping kit too!
    Thanks for sharing. Its an incentive to use mine in similar fashion!

    Hello, great video and info. Ive had my 9’7” for about a year now. What length paddle would you suggest for this boat? I’m 5’9” 165.

    • @johnsnell6315
      @johnsnell6315  3 місяці тому +1

      I would suggest a paddle length of 197 to 200.

      I tried looking up the cockpit specs on Daggers website, but couldn’t find them. I know it is a little larger than my regular whitewater kayak. I would guess it is an XL cockpit size.

    How do you find it paddles on the flats is it easy to paddle or do you need to put the power into it ?

    • @johnsnell6315
      @johnsnell6315  2 роки тому

      I found it easy to paddle. There is a little power required to get it up to speed, but once you’re there it was fairly easy to maintain.

      No roads, limited access? Most people in the area are boating, not logging?

    Hi John, I am 6ft, 155 Lbs. Would the 9.7 be too small for me. I have a Dagger Stratos 12.5 for longer trips. The Katana would be used for maybe 2 nights max. Thank you.

    • @johnsnell6315
      @johnsnell6315  3 роки тому +1

      You would definitely be fine as far as the weight limit goes. It is always difficult to make a judgement on your height (some people have longer legs, etc.). I think at 6 ft, you would be ok, but it would limit your ability to store gear in the front of the boat. I would suggest to definitely sit in one first to see how comfortable you are.

    Axis or katana for a flat water tidal river ? Any advice ?

    • @johnsnell6315
      @johnsnell6315  3 роки тому +3

      I would say the Katana is geared more towards whitewater. It is a whitewater boat with some flat water capabilities. The Axis is geared more toward flat water. It is a flat water boat with a little bit of river capability.

      It is a cross-over boat; designed for whitewater and flat water. Since I had previously tested it out on whitewater (Falls River and Salmon River), I thought I would try it out on flat water. Also, I had a goal to paddle across Fremont Lake. The trip did not disappoint. I am glad you have found a boat that works for you.

    Everybody omits and totally glares over.. one major important key factor..all sitting kayaks are designed with a lip around the cockpit.. 9 OUT OF 10 SIT IN KAYAKS VIDEOS TOTALLY OMIT SPRAY SKIRTS!!! It boggles my mind The kayaks are designed for it!!! They'll go over every feature.. adjustable this and thats, the sea,t the cup holders, THE KAYAK WILL COST YOU $500..IF YOU WANT A SPRAY SKIRT WHICH IS THE KAYAK IS SPECIFICALLY DESIGNED FOR THAT'S GOING TO COST YOU ANOTHER 250..😳😳😂😂😂🤫🤫🤫
