Thanks bud! This worked for me too. Maybe worth mentioning that the phone doesn't give you any indication that it's charging when you do this. No beeps... no charging symbol... nada... which threw me at first - figured it wasn't working. You only find out it's worked when you switch the phone on again and look at the %.

Works! Though I must admit I'm a scaredy cat. First I set up the phone and closed it in a drawer, then plugged it in (in case it exploded or something).

Don't leave the phone unattended while charging in this manner and use a USB charger rated at 1A maximum to minimize chances of the battery overheating and catching fire. Connecting 5VDC power directly to the battery terminals bypasses safety features built into the phone to limit the charging rate.

You are exactly right! This is carzy for him to suggest to people to do this! Especially when he could have used the 2 pins right beside the battery!! And those are the wireless pins, the battery would reach 100% charge and then disconnect the power from the phone / battery.
It worked. My wife had a Galaxy 2 with a gallery she had not transferd to her laptop and then the cell would not charge. This worked great to fix the transfer of her photos at no tech cost.

This totally worked on my son’s Samsung J3... battery was charged in about 10 minutes and we were able to retrieve the pictures. BUT BE CAREFUL - the USB plug was HOT when I was done. Don’t leave it unattended.
Caution, lithium batteries have controller logic to stop high current charging and discharging as well as overvoltage conditions. This logic is sometimes part of the battery but could be somewhere else (mainboard). If you use this technique you may bypass these safety measures and could cause battery fires or explosions. If you insist on doing this: 1) do not leave the device unattended, 2) check device or battery temperature frequently and stop if it gets unusually hot, and 3) learn the proper procedures to extinguish lithium battery fires. Note, just because it appears to work you must do the above every time because of the way lithium batteries age over time; improper charging accelerates this problem (search lithium battery dendrite).
could be dangerous this as your bypassing the charging circuit and could over charge your battery resulting in explosion or fire

Kelly N ...C/P...Good tutorial friend but I think it's not too smart to connect wires directly to battery... it can burn your battery or motherboard (even I can see here / you connect third "ground" wire too)...better and safe way is to connect red and black wires on your wirelles charging port connector wich is located as two visible pins down left (on left where is CE signature of your battery) to your battery using same method as yours. Left pin is + right pin is - , also this method works for every phone that has this wirelles charging connectors like S3, S4, S5...etc......stay safe. Cheers

@@nollatoleranssi9177 it is literally connector to install 3rd party wireless charger (Samsung's later models are shipped with preinstalled wir.cha...and many people aren't aware of those connectors, find, for example, S5 motherboard components scheme on Google and you will know correct polarity places, unfortunately my S5 is kaput, can't test)
My wires only have 3 colors: green, pink/red, and white. Unfortunately, no black wire. Which is positive and which is negative?
I'm kind of confused. When you let us see an example of your phone at 20%, it was 12:34 am. When you let us see it being at 74% at the end, it was 12:29am. Did you pause the video and continue the next day, wait a whole day to charge it, or did you change the time? Maybe for an app like Candy Crush?

It absolutely works I've been doing it about a week but here are some things to look out for.
1 the flat Chargers better because the wires are separated usually four.
2 they say the red wire but it could be pink or some other color I guess
3 I couldn't find the Plus or the minus until I looked at the battery itself
4 don't leave it unattended it gets hot so check it often and unplug until it cools down
5 take out your SD card before you charge it you don't want to fry anything I haven't taken out my SIM card but that might be an option then you got to reset everything I guess not sure
6 never ever ever ever ever connect it while it's plugged in and unplug it before turning it on to check the charge

I think I read all of the comments. This would be a great way to get your data off of the internal memory if you have to buy a new battery, but are afraid your phone is completely going out. However, we would have to use this method every single time we recharge, I guess? Until we get a new battery in? NOT being critical. Absolutely being sincere. I have no problem with using this method and I'm sure it has helpe a lot, as most below say.
I needed to actually watch you put the red and black wires on. I tried to see exactly what you did but couldn't...did each wire wrap around one or 2 pins? you pulled the pins up? mine seem flat. maybe if you added a light to that area for us non-electronic engineers lol. My s3 is 4 years old. It has 2 batteries (a spare, none original) and a separate charging pad. I use it as backup while my s7 is charging lol and a backup morning alarm. Plus, I can't figure how to get my Samsung internet favorites file over into Chrome bookmarks (yuck).

One way to tell if your charger may be getting a charge is to attach it to a pc and check on settings. If your phone shows up in explorer you can see the battery status in its properties at least in Windows 7 +

The voltage is all wrong, and Lithium batteries are NOT like other rechargeable batteries, they need special voltage and current limiting... He's lucky to still have a face!
If you really want to do it like this, get a 4.2 volt charger for those rechargeable bicycle lights. It will handle all the adjusting needed. The charger has an LED to show when charging is complete.
(Lithium cells show either 3.6/3.7/3.8 volts on the label, but they actually charge to near 4.2 volts when full.)

Thanks for the video. I had actually already ran this idea over in my head as a temporary solution to my bad charging port. Anyway it charged 2 of my dead batteries in record time and I kept an eye on them and disconnected them as soon as they reached 100%.
The only thing I noticed was when charging via the phones charging port the little battery emblem has a sort of lightening bolt in it but doing it this way it does not (I guess because you are bypassing that) So at first I didn't think I had done it right or that it was working.

Hello, when i do this, i put the proper colors and everything in the right place, this makes my phone able to turn on, and it says the battery is at about 50% every time i do this (its actually dead). But it does not say its charging. I was wondering what is wrong?

Mark is asking about the the ports not the cables. Your vid is not clear on where the black and red should be wired to. Its looks as though you have the cables connected to all four pins cos you run the wires through them. Mark is asking should the red and black cables connect to all four gold pins or only the positive and negative gold pins.

fun fact ! those gold rf connector pins to the left also charge the device (they use them for wireless) and thats 5volts going directly into a battery rated for 3.3v . if u use the rf pins you wont risk damaging the battery capacity.

The microport on my phone is out so absolutely NO cord will work to charge my phone. Thought I could find useful videos on the web with successful methods. Tried this method b/c all of the others I found required that you plug the microcharger into the microport on the phone. Here's what I found:
1. The phone IS charging even though the battery symbol on the phone does not reflect that it is charging.
2. After about 10 minutes the battery symbol on my phone read "full". However, when unplugging the cord from the outlet the battery power reading showed only about 25% charged.
3. For every 25% that I wanted my battery to be charged I needed to leave the spliced cables connected to my + and - battery terminals and the other end plugged into an outlet for 20 to 30 minutes.
4. Check the battery to your phone about every 10 to 15 minutes to make sure it is not getting too warm. My battery never got too warm, only the same temperature (to the touch) that it gets when the phone is plugged in to an outlet as usual.
5. After staying plugged in for the necessary time my battery symbol did read 100%.
6. I have not had any issues with my phone since charging it this way.

It’s not “safe” either way but it’s better to do it with the phone so that you don’t over charge your battery
use a voltemeter if you dont have black and red wires, but here is a good tip, a good USB wire will always have a black wire and that is always your negative, now all you have to do find the possitive out of the rest of wires

Hi, this worked well 5 times and after that the gold connector that the negative black wire connects to that the battery presses against that is pushed in and won't come out and is not charging anymore, is there a quick fix for that or do I need to replace the gold connectors?
What if the wires are red white and green? Which is positive and which is negative in that case? No black wire for me.

try this method or you can try getting a battery charge for your s3 to see if the port is giving issues. but if this method does not work your mother board may be damaged

What if you find some one with the same phone have them charge the battery in there phone for you, then insert the fully charged battery into the dead phone will the phone then come on? If done that way ? Or does the charging battery need to be in the dead phone in order to charge the internal components of the phone I don't want to run the risk of frying my phone I just want to transfer my info to my new phone but my port is broken and my old phone completely dead someone please help

4:26 it shows that you use 1 and 4 pins. But I tryed it way and nothing happened.
im a bit confused after reading that, I recommend finding the + positive port and - negative one and connect the wires, if that doesn't work try looking up your specs via google to double check
Actually I got it working. But I needed try this thing few times. I m not sure is there some problem with connectors/pinotus on my S5.
There was also suggested more safe method for this battery loading. If you use S5 2pinouts behind which are using NFC (they should be next each other). So could be possible also load the battery with wires. I didnt get it working. Can you make another video about that and does it work?

Make sure you follow the steps. It wont be exactly the same but the concept of cutting the wires and allowing it to connect directly to your phone port will still work for this phone
