Lovely video. Thanks. The Snowies are one of the reasons we retired to Laramie. Having this country 40 minutes away is a good thing. My wife is originally from Florida and has fallen in love with Wyoming in general and Laramie and the Snowies in particular. There is some pretty cool geology there including stromalite fossils which are not that spectacular (sort of look like a cabage cut in half) but are the algae that gave us an oxygen atmosphere and here are about 1.8 billion years old.
I've been going there since the '70's. It's hardly changed a bit since then. I'm in my 50's and still pack over the gap into Cutthroat or I four wheele into Quealy and hike up to Middle Long. Tons of great memories as a kid and with my own kids. People just aren't aware of it. Shhhhh!
What an incredible landscape. I’m really grateful that you kinda let me come along on your hike with you! So different from the landscape where I’m from and I really hope I can experience it for myself one day. Your dog is just beautiful too! What a great hiking buddy.
@@hughboogie1470 nice try but that's dwarfed by the amount slaughtered by the white men, and it was done with advanced weaponry. He was in 7th heaven the whole time; 3 days of nothing but playing in water, running around and chasing his "throw-its". He slept for the better part of 2 days when we got home :)
Mini skirt. Probably a poor choice for back country hiking. However I'm jealous, with two bad knees carrying a 50lbs pack in that kind of terrain is out of the question. Great adventure.
Actually, Lion is wearing a "skort" it's a skirt with integrated lycra shorts underneath. Works like a charm and prevents chafing. She work the same style on our 510 mile Colorado Trail adventure the year before and it really worked well. It does totally look like a skirt at a glance, though :) Thanks for watching!
Very nice film -- especially since you shot it yourself. I watched it in B&W, but still enjoyed the scenery. I live where there are no mosquitoes, at all, ever, so I would find that environment unlivable. It looks like you had a great time. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for the great video! You've prompted me to begin planning a backpack trip here later this summer. I can't find any trail maps online. Where did you get that wonderful trail map you were using? Thanks for your help. Pats to Lego!
I saw a bear at blanca peak it looked about 400 lbs but it licked its lips. I went the opposite way and had to walk about 10 miles around the base of the mountain to get back to the car. I had eyes on that mountain for that bear but I wasn't scared.
I’ll be heading that way in July, I see you had your bear vault; is that something you’d suggest doing vs hanging a food bag? Here on the north woods I’ve had good luck with hanging my food and haven’t had to take my bear vault very often.
I prefer to hang my food when I can, since the Bear Vault is so heavy...but since we are up around treeline and don't have any deciduous trees besides aspen, a good hang is virtually impossible. So out comes the bear can...
really appreciate the work you both put into editing this video. the walk away shots are NOT fun and can be less fun for hiking partners ;) out of curiosity, what did you do to help mitigate mosquitos? they are especially attracted to me and i am especially prone to itching their bites. any suggestions?
Soooo....the mosquitos were just wicked on this trip; we actually counted over 300 bites on Lion. We both had mosquito repellent alone, but for whatever reason, they ate her alive. Long pants, long sleeves and possibly even a headnet were in order if you were to stop for any length of time.
Ugh I hope Lego was ok! I’ve had a few hikes in the Rockies that were bad but every “Wyoming in July” write ups I see mention the clouds of mosquitos so it’s giving me pause. Was going to try permethrin and picaridin. I guess I could invest in a neck cover as well, though I hate hiking in pants and long sleeves :p
@@m.kingery Surprisingly, Lego seemed pretty unfazed by all the mosquitoes. As long as you're moving, or there is wind (which there usually is in Wyoming), they are very bearable, even without bug spray or protective clothing. When it cools off at night they hunker down, too. What you don't want are mild days, and warm windless nights...which is exactly what we had on this trip. But still just totally worth it to visit this little Shangri-la.
Did they actually have a bear attack there? I was told a bear chased a snowboarder downhill and ate everything and all they found was the bindings. People in wyoming can embellish stories.
Great video. What a beautiful region and an awesome dog 🐶👍🏻
Really enjoyed the video. Cool area I haven’t seen. Thanks for sharing!

That scenery is incredible. Imagine being one of the first pioneers to see it.

Fantastic hike! Looks like a great one to put on our list. So many great lakes.....and mosquitoes. 😆😁👍
Love the Snowies. Looking forward to shooting some videos up there this summer.

Thanks! Fortunately, the mosquitoes are only bad for a few weeks a year.
Made at least 15 trips with the family there over the years, there is no place like it, it’s fantastic.

Yep, good eye! Lego is half heeler and half Siberian husky. Thank you for watching :)

What map are you using in this video?
We are using a map I had made by mytopo.com You can have pretty much anything made to your liking for a couple bucks.
Im not scared of bears but I carry a .500 magnum and a .357 as a backup gun and bear spray
Any bear sightings there ?
We didn't see any on our trip, but black bears are pretty common in the area.
Dude, those mosquitos were too much! What month did you shoot this?
