    If you want the stained wood instead of paint, do you recommend staining each individual piece before installing on the wall or stain the whole thing after installation?

    • @ericwise4335
      @ericwise4335  Рік тому

      I would definitely pre-stain. It'll be easier to manage and you can let the finish off gas outside before you bring it in. There's no sense in letting all of those fumes free in your home.

    • @ericwise4335
      @ericwise4335  Рік тому

      I pre-stain any time I can. It would be a mess and the off-gassing would be terrible in a house.

    If you use the one by three border can you just leave the baseboard one and level your bottom plate

    • @ericwise4335
      @ericwise4335  3 роки тому

      Unfortunately the wall material was thicker than the baseboard and would have stuck out over the baseboard. But with a thicker baseboard that would definitely work!

    How much extra material do you figure in sq/ft for material?

    I see the width of the strips is 6” but how long are the majority of them? Thanks

    • @ericwise4335
      @ericwise4335  3 роки тому +1

      All of those were 4' long to minimize waste and allow the pattern to keep a small footprint.

    • @seankearney730
      @seankearney730 Рік тому

      If you used 4’ boards, what was the length of the wall. I guess what I’m asking is, how did you determine using the 4’ boards?

      In my area the going rate seems to be somewhere between $1000-$1500.

      3+ sheets of plywood at around $45 per sheet, some Liquid Nails ($15) and 16ga nail gun.
      Clear coat or paint to your wishes. Less than a gallon of paint.

    @ericwiseinteriors what kind of plywood did you use for this?

    • @ericwise4335
      @ericwise4335  3 роки тому +1

      I used 1/2" Baltic Birch. It's a bit more expensive than what you find at the big hardware stores, but doesn't have the voids that cheaper plywood. MDF is great inexpensive option but is a mess to cut so I avoid it.

    Why take the base board out? Why not place from the top of the baseboard? Only asking because I’m about to start this project. And what other options over plywood would you recommend if I don’t have the ability to rip them? Thanks

    • @JenXer71
      @JenXer71 3 роки тому +3

      He replaced the baseboard temporarily with a straight and level piece of plywood to ensure everything is level from top to bottom. He put the baseboard back on at the end. Using precut planks is easier, especially if you don’t have a good rip saw to cut your own. I plan on using precut pine or cedar planks from the lumber yard on my wall.

    • @ericwise4335
      @ericwise4335  3 роки тому +1

      In this case the plywood was thicker than the baseboard. I've done another project similar to this one with very thick baseboard and I just left it in place.
      Plywood is the only real option for a quality end result. I've got another video coming that shows some options for ripping the plywood without a table saw.

    when you say liquid nails - do you mean just glue - i noticed you used a nail gun at end of video so it was confusing please explain - thanks and great video

    • @ericwise4335
      @ericwise4335  3 роки тому +2

      Liquid Nails is a brand name. It's wood glue in a tube like caulk. The liquid nails is what will hold it to the wall without it bowing or pulling away. The nails are just to hold it in place while the glue dries.

    That just seems like such a waste of time to do all of that just to paint it white.
