I agree with the massess that it's gorgeous but over-priced. IWC overall has drastically increased their prices over the past couple years. Pilots chronograph 41 was 6500 USD in Jan 2022 and now is 7600 USD. The ingenieur should be between 6k to 7k USD. Having this cost more than a Datejust, hell more than a GMT Master 2, is absurd.
Yes I think they could priced it more than the Mark XX but not as much. Many other watch brands increased their prices over the last few years. JLC is a good example of the crazy increase.

To me… it’s absolutely worth it … the new IWC Ingenieur Finishing is top notch . The bracelet is the most comfortable you will ever find and all the details amazed me. This type of IWC offering is not for a Omega, Rolex buyer but someone looking for a high end finishing with an iconic style
They misread the market. 3 y ago, maybe, but not when Rolex AD’s are calling and wait time much shorter (got a Rootbeer in less than 12 months). At 12-14, there are way too many options, especially if including secondary markets. I feel my Octo Finissimo will much less likely to be dated (probably because it probably will never be mainstream, lol) in 5 years. I am negotiating a great deal on a Moser for less than 12, also not a derivative design. There are Mk XX’s on bracelets to be had for less than 5500, and much more interesting Zenith models for less than 9. And BnM are great deals, too. I’m very curious because they couldn’t have guessed that badly, could they?
'Well known but not too well known brand' is important to me as well. I mostly wear Omega, Panerai, and IWC (chrono) to work. This watch would be a good swap for my blue Datejust 41 that I don't wear to work BUT for me the fixed butterfly clasp removes it from consideration, regardless of price.
These watches are not for poor people, i.e. watch enthusiasts. Those who can afford luxuries don't look at money or resale value. It's a beautiful watch and a welcome breath of fresh air in a market already tired and bored by Rolex, Omega, Tudor, etc.
How is a reissue of another watch from the 70s cashing in on the recent trend around vintage-inspired integrated-bracelet watches a breath of fresh air? It seems like the opposite-IWC being late to the trend and occupying an empty middle ground between the exclusive pieces from Patek and AP and the affordable Christopher Ward and Tissot options. Being neither exclusive nor affordable, who’s this for?
@@MeestroDavid It is for those who have money and are tired of the same story with boring watches like Rolex, Omega, Tudor etc. Regarding the price, everything is relative.

Here in Cape Town we don’t get a such a choice of Gerald Genta’s integrated bracelet watches and I find this version rather attractive despite of the lack of sharp edges on its case ,which I normally like on integrated watches . Great review and thoughts about the watch, Thank you for sharing. I still think this Engenieur looks a lot better than the original, so much that i got the Ti version 😊 About the price, for a Genta design I think it’s manageable compared to the other two brands.
The movement is not COSC certified, IWC has never made any statements about the accuracy of its watches. The only exception was the “Officially Certified Chronometer” Ingenieur (1993-2001), whose rates complied with the COSC specifications.
I received mine in NY after 1 month in inquiring the watch. It’s a great looking watch. I got to see all of the colored models except the titanium version in person before I made the decision on the black dial. You have to see them in person to really help you decide on the design. Also the watch arrives with a few half links and full links, so even though it doesn’t have a quick adjust, you can get a better fit than what I got from my old Cartier Santos medium.
I’m not a big fan of integrated bracelets. They can look good, however I do t like being locked into a proprietary system and lack of casually found strap. I’ve got a couple watches with 19mm lug width, something that’s often made out to be a big deal, it’s not an issue these days, I’d find this kind of setup far more restrictive. I’m more of a dress watch these days, this strikes me as one of the nicer integrated sports watches today. No way would I consider it at retail. I do love the case, I’d wear it in the bracelet and be done. I’d consider a preowned Defy Skyline at the right price. I’m more of a Zenith fan but prefer this aesthetically. The Tonda comes to mind, but too rich for my blood…. It’ll be interesting to see what the prices look on the preowned market down the road once the dust settles.
So, Jory Goodman - the Time Teller compared the recently released IWC Ingenuer for $14K and the Baume & Mercer Automatic Rivera for less than $4K and the very close similarities. As you stated, both pieces are designed by G. Genta both pieces fm the Richmont Group. IMHO, it would be hard to justify OVERPRICED IWC over the B&M Rivera.
At $11,000 this Genta watch is a steal!! already at a premium in the secondary market, this watch is worth $20K and will still be cheap compared to the Nautilus and Royal Oak
Care to share what sources of data you are basing your opinions on? Most secondary market dealers are offering just about MSRP for new pieces and even lower for pre-owned pieces..
Great video, but agree that it is overpriced via your title. 120 hrs of PR is good. I simply don’t value IWC aa they see themselves. I prefer both the Piaget Polo and Chopard AE over this watch. I own the Chopard AE and purchased it used which was approximately 65% of its MSRP, not the current MSRP. Piaget Polo is amazing and prefer this as a nautilus alternative but it also is overpriced.
Great review, thank you. I haven't seen many videos out there on this watch, its a frustrating piece purely because of the price but i guarantee that if it was the sensible price we were all hoping for, you wouldn't be able to buy it at retail anyway.
If you think Patek and AP didn’t change the original design you are flat out wrong. iWC was very faithful to the original and improved the design where necessary. The original of all 3 integrated bracelet designs needed quite a few improvements
With IWC's catalogue of annual Calanders, perpetual Calanders and tourbillons also the latest eternal Calander, I would argue that they are competitive with brands in the holy trinity.
They've had watches with complications and tourbillons for quite a while models like Da Vinci Perpetual Calendar for example from the early 90s. But it doesn't mean they can be put on the same level as the holy trinity brands or even JLC.
@@OneManReviewsthe bracelet, case and dial finishing on the ingeniur is better than many Jlc, but of course Jlc has some of the best movements. Ingeniur is 4k CAD cheaper than, Piaget polo, GP laurriato, Chopard Alpine eagle, Bvlgari Octo etc. And about same price as Polaris no date.

2023 new edition version is more beautiful than 1970 first edition version! So I mean that We cannot say 2023 Ingenieur model is not original Gerald Genta design! We should say that It’s IWC Ingenieur 2023 Gerald Genta design new edition version.
Id bet 9 of 10 people complaining cant afford the watch. Just look at the competitions prices and youd see this is right in the middle. Holy Trinity is 2 or 3 times the price. Streamliner? Antartique? Lauriato? Tonda? Alpine eagle? Polo? All more expensive. Zenith Defy is just under and everone seems to hate that watch. Id say this watch is priced right but overall the prices for steel integrated bracelet watch has gotten out of control.
Piaget, GP, Chopard, Czapek, and Moser you mentioned are in a very different league than IWC. Ingenier is a great watch but too overpriced. It's like if Tissot would be charging Omega prices.
I don't understand why people would like to buy this instead of used Ingenieurs that are nicer and at a quarter of the price. Is this nicer than a Mission Earth? I don't think so.
I don't get the idea that the price of the watch is justified because other Genta-inspired watches cost even more. Of course AP and Pateks cost more. They're highly exclusive, hand-made, hand-finished to an incredible standard, and use in-house, highly decorated movements. The IWC is none of that and to claim that the design's inspiration in work they paid Genta for over 50 years ago should add any value or cost is straight-up ridiculous. Imagine VW charging $75,000 for a new Golf because the same designer that did the original in 1973 also designed higher-priced exotics for Maserati, Lotus, and Alfa Romeo.
None of the high end watches are worth the price but it’s what they want to sell them for and it’s up to you to decide if you are happy to part with the money, every person sees value in a different way that’s why there are different products and price points for everyone. Get over the price and focus on the great points of this watch it is exceptional in all aspects as pointed out in the video. You can just see how much thought engineers have put into this and that has to be respected and it comes at a price which is not for everyone
@@OneManReviews look, the both of watch’s shape. Who cares mechanism, power reserve, precious materyals. Being a Gerald Genta design is not enough to answer all the questions
The movement argument is a nonsense. Patek uses the same movement in the entry level Calatrava as it does the Nautilus/Aquanaut yet no one complains about that. Does the movement do the intended job is all that matters.
That’s because it’s a Patek movement, not a mass produced Richmont movement. This thing is half-assed and it shows. And there are plenty of people on UA-cam, people who know watches, who complain about Patek and APs basic movements in some of their most iconic watches.
The IWC 32111 movement is terrible. I have a Mark XX. Omega, JLC, and Rolex are far more accurate. Read the forms about this movement. They keep poor time, are unreliable, and do a bizarre hand jump when set.
@@patsmith3894 mine so far is accurate to within COSC spec. Rolex are guaranteed -2+2 and Omega are similar so I would never use those to compare accuracy and I don’t expect the IWC to be. As for unreliable please say in what way rather than just make a sweeping statements. Has yours been unreliable or has a jumping hand when time setting?
@@patsmith3894 so I’ve looked at the last 5 years of posts on WUS and there’s only a couple of posts specifically about the 32111 accuracy (which there are similar posts for virtually all watch brands/models) and nothing about the minute hand moving when time setting. The only reference to that are a handful of comments on Reddit in response to the video from the woman in the US. This is a non issue and certainly perhaps while cosmetically irritating doesn’t affect the movement performance. So I’m sorry but your comment that the 32111 is a terrible movement simply doesn’t stack up.

@@OneManReviews Well now I own one. Now that the initial hype is over the dealers are open to a price that is much closer to what it should be. Comparing in real life I went with the aqua dial. I felt it was vivid and gave it a lot of life. The white was my second favorite. I am loving it, and I am happy I waited to get the right price.
This is a great 7k usd watch.
Agree 👍
If not the price, it would already be in my collection.
I've never, EVER heard anybody say: This watch is underpriced. It is inexpensive, it should cost more. Human nature.
There were watches like that.
2023 new edition version is more beautiful than 1970 first edition version!
So I mean that We cannot say 2023 Ingenieur model is not original Gerald Genta design!
We should say that It’s IWC Ingenieur 2023 Gerald Genta design new edition version.
Sure, that's another way to look at it.
Looking at other iwc models such as top gun chronograph, they are also stupidly expensive. Huge discount on the second market.
Yep. IWC watches are loosing great deal on the secondary market.
I like the oder Ingenieur version also. But the pre-owned prices for those are also quite high.
Without those Crown Guards would look much better
I think so too.
I had no idea Larry Bird was a watch designer. Is there anything that guy can't do?
To answer your video title: no, of course not. But it’s a lovely watch.
Agree.
I take a CW twelve indeed :):)
Something I haven't had my hand on yet :)
There's "not worth it" and then there's "holy shit totally not worth it". This watch is the latter.
А мне циферблат напоминает больше не шахматный паттерн , а миллиметровую бумагу, что как бы логично в случае с инженером:)
That's an interesting connection idea :)
I can tell you were excited...lol
I was :)
It is the same Watch chopard alpine eagle. If it would be no no name brand, everyone says clone or fake
The Chopard Eagle is a very different watch.
@@OneManReviews look, the both of watch’s shape. Who cares mechanism, power reserve, precious materyals. Being a Gerald Genta design is not enough to answer all the questions
If you’re balking at 11k, this watch is not for you.
Nice watch but highly overpriced for most of engineers.
@@atl3630 you think a Patek movement isn’t mostly mass produced? You think it’s all hand finished and not CNC? Bless you.
No chronometer certification for all that cash 🤦🏻♂️ these are going to bomb on the grey market 👎🏼 a missed opportunity at a crazy price point 🤦🏻♂️
The baume Riviera has the same movement inside it’s fabulous Watch, and in my country it costs roughly £3500. yes, the bracelet on the iwc is fantastic, but you have to ask how much is that worth. none of the Gerald genta watchesc watches were an immediate Success At the time. it’s ridiculous and it’s nonsense and as the ID guy said earlier yesterday in his video it’s all over the Watch industry.
That’s what I think too, save your $ and buy the Riveria. Only difference is the brand name.
@@mkyhou1160 the IWC has a far superior bracelet and that has to be worth a lot of money. I acknowledge that but you’re only talking a couple of thousand at the most so that takes us to about 5500 .
Patek Calatrava has the same movement as the Nautilus with huge price differences! So what!!
@@markhammerschmidt5315 Watch, there’s no comparison . Patek one of the few brands that genuinely are truly prestigious. All of their watches are going to be understandably, very expensive.
Awesome watch but mispriced ofc. What a pity!
Very sad.

Getting tired of Genta’s design hype.
A little bit too much. But IWC has all the rights to bring it back.
It's the crownguard for me. Hate em.
Would be nicer without them.

Same movement mark xx is the half price of this watch. Awkward. Its too expensive
They did overprice it.
Beautiful watch, but the price tag can not be justified 😅

The zero infront of the numbers on the same date disc are stupid and unnecessary for a three hander.
Well that’s how Genta designed it originally so…..
No, he didn't!!
@@donaleeesio oh yeah - so what. Most like it. I like it. What is the problem exactly other than just you don’t like it?
Because it's not suitable for classic mechanical time piece. that's why you don't see any other watch brand do that unless it's a dual date disc like A. Lange Datograph.
@@donaleeesiosorry but this is just your opinion since there’s no rules about what is right or wrong! Personally I like it a lot as it’s a nice change from most others, and I’m perfectly happy with it in my own Ingenieur.
Too thick and too expensive for what it is. Pass 👎
Hype train bro
W G. Genta. L IWC. Simply not deserving of the price tag
Great watch but over priced
And that’s a shame.
Loved this watch until the price was revealed. Then Christopher Ward said “Hold up… check this out: TWELVE.”
I think they did an unbelievable job of slapping IWC in the mouth lol.
Maybe for 4-5k
Looks like chopard alpine eagle
Yeah, it's price in unrealistic and there is no reason for it, other than greed.
German arrogance will not work .
IWC is Swiss…..and always was Swiss. Just located in the German speaking part of Switzerland.
tnx but clear to me, just talked about the German ARROGANCE..
@@AS-po9pm So how is a Swiss watch company applying German arrogance then? As a German, I would like to understand that. Is there a special German arrogance that’s different to Swiss arrogance? 🤔
