The single biggest tearjerker in here was the story of John, "The only popular kid in school who didn't bully me."
It's a bit of a Reverse Uno Card, here, but in High School I befriended one of my bullies.
A couple decades later, I met a gentleman on the bus, we introduced ourselves, and when he said his last name, it being a small town, I had to ask, "Are you Chip's son?"
He looked a bit concerned, and said, "Yeah..."
    "How's he doing?"
"He uhh.. died of an overdose a few years ago."
"I am so sorry to hear that. That is a God Damn shame, because your father was a FAR better man than he EVER gave himself credit for."
Next thing I know, I got 6' 4" of Corn-fed Warshington Boy slobbering on my shoulder, saying "Mister, you are the first son of a bitch I have ever heard say ANYTHING nice about my dad."
Chip's Son, I hope you are doing well.

To the man with the incurable brain tumour who beat the odds, my Granma told me of a man who was severely wounded in WW1. Shot through the neck and hip, he was completely paralyzed from the neck down. Doctors told him he wouldn't recover movement. Six months later he proved them wrong and slowly regained full feeling, but then they said he wouldn't walk without a severe limp because of his shattered hip. He eventually walked with only an insignificant limp. He didn't marry for 20 years. Finally, at 46, when he met my 31 year old Gran, he risked it, after informing her doctors told him he wouldn't be able to give her children. That man was my Grandad and doctors don't always know everything. He passed at 86 and led a full happy life.

I've got one that happened just two days ago!
I live off-grid on 20 acres of wilderness mountain, and I'm 2 miles from the nearest neighbor and he only comes up here a few times a year.
I go months without seeing another human out here. It's peaceful, beautiful, but lonely.
This is going to be TLDR because I don't know how to make it shorter. Sorry, but just skip it if that's a problem.
Since COVID in 2020, I've been alone out here with just my disabled adult son and our animals. We did have one neighbor, but she died of covid, and was found by her daughter after she couldn't reach her by phone. We have no friends or family, but I hate asking for help anyway, so I've become a hermit.
A former "friend" got mad at me 4 years ago and told me everyone in the community hates me, and next fire they will laugh as I burn. Whatever! I keep to myself, so if people choose to hate someone they've never met, that's on them.
Then my 20 year old hoopty broke down, and it's going to cost more to fix than it's worth. I'm poor, so I have to save up cash over time to buy another POS vehicle, but for now I'm stranded with no way to get groceries and supplies.
I finally got desperate and let someone know I need help, desperately! My son and I had gone through all of our "prepper" food (I had enough for 4 months, made it last 5).
On the bright side, I can fit back into all my skinny clothes now.
Well, everyone had an excuse why they couldn't help, even the neighbor who's only 2 miles from me. Others said my road is too dangerous, others said my SON is too dangerous (they've never met him, but the ex-friend jerk told people that my son has spent time in prison! BS! My son has _never been arrested,_ he has schizophrenia and has spent time in mental hospitals to get his meds worked out. He's basically just like Boo Radley (he was the good guy in the story, remember?).
Okay, here's when I met my angel! An elderly lady I've never met but who has lived in the community near here even longer than my 17 years, texted me, and offered to take me to town to get food.
Two days ago, she drove out here to pick me up, and she spent all day driving me to get supplies we needed. She's a lovely, sweet, kind person, she wouldn't even let me pay for gas. I can't remember the last time I was around someone so enjoyable to be around!
What made me cry though was when I realized she can't walk without a walker and she needs a wheelchair to get around. All those able bodied younger people refused to help me, but she never mentioned that she's disabled. If I'd known, I would have refused her help and I wouldn't have a wonderful new friend today!
She never mentioned that she's a Christian, but I could tell that we most likely have similar beliefs, we like the Classic Jesus, the one that told folks to be loving and kind, and not judge others. After she dropped me off, I thanked her and told her, "You stored up some treasures in Heaven today!" which got a big smile.
I'm not religious, but my mom taught me that it's more important to be kind and helpful than it is to be right, or rich.
Once I have transportation again, I'm going to do all I can to help her with anything she needs.
    ALWAYS pay it forward!

      @TimeSurfer206 2 місяці тому +14

This story is not only heartening, you have given me a new weapon for my war against intolerance:
When I am asked the question, "Are you a Christian?" ...
I shall now answer, "That depends. Are we talking Traditional Jesus, or Cheeto Jesus?"

    • @LazyIRanch
      @LazyIRanch 2 місяці тому +14

@@TimeSurfer206 That's perfect! One thing I've learned about those who follow Cheeto Jesus is that they don't read the Bible.
Their concept of Jesus has absolutely nothing to do with the Jesus who told people to sell their belongings and share their wealth with those in need.
Gospel Jesus told his followers to never judge others, lest THEY be judged, to welcome those strangers from foreign lands as if they are family, to _never_ hurt children, to forgive those who hurt you, and that only three things last forever; faith, hope, love; but the greatest of these is LOVE.
Gospel Jesus said _nothing_ about abortion or homosexuality (which has always existed) which leads me to think those topics were not at all important to him.
Almost everyone knows the Lord's Prayer found in Matthew 6, but not many read the preface, the "preamble" to the prayer which goes:
“Be careful not to practice your righteousness in front of others to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven."
“So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you."
“And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him."
“This, then, is how you should pray:
“ ‘Our Father, who art in heaven... (we know the rest)

0:46, I used to own a fast food stall on Norwich market. Opened up early and found a guy sheltering opposite my stall. As I boiled the water I asked if he wanted a tea. He replied, 'I'm just out of prison and got no money' I told him that if he wanted a tea and bacon roll he could. Just maybe he understood that we all screw up, but some of us don't hold it against them.

@Lazy Ranch you had me completely in tears. Through this complete video and hours later, through the comment section I am a complete mess in danger of drying out. I wish you and your son, as well as your new found friend a wonderful life and many many happy moments.
I am an old grandma and I also have little money. My washing machine broke down and I asked for an estimate for repair. Between 400-500..... WHAT? It's a 15 year old Miele, that I received as a gift four years ago because it was losing water. I cleaned all hoses and the filter and it never lost a drop in my basement. Then I thought, if I cannot afford the repair, then it doesn't matter if I completely break it... So I took it apart, after I had found a video of a young guy, showing how it is done. I changed the motor brushes. It didn't work. I wrote to the young man on UA-cam on a three year old video and he answered me within 30 minutes. He helped me as much as possible. Then a plug was broken. I went to every store that had anything electric. Nobody could help me. Then I went to a tractor shop and the mechanics laughed when I came in my mechanics overall ( I always wear that), they searched through their supplies, gifted me with crimping stuff and I rewired the plug and after taking apart and reassembling three times, I forgot to tighten a screw at one time and almost ruined everything, and it's working just fine now. The parts were 12 $, and nice people who just simply helped. I know, my situation is nothing compared to yours, with food and having to take care of your son and all your work. But there are nice people out there. And nobody has to explain their religion or their beliefs, just live it, I think, trying to be a good person, that's all that's necessary. And that by itself, is sometimes pretty hard .

We tried to spend the most time with those who didn’t have family who visited often. It’s easy to tell. One lady, tho she never remembered any of our names, would look at me and say: I know you! I was excited to get the orders, because my daughter's baby girl, a black lab, needs expensive surgery, and I'm in long-term care. Okay, that doggo's face at 8:35 just ended me! "He has a joke to tell you but he has to stop laughing first."
I'm so glad I didn't take a swig of coffee just as that image popped up! It would have been messy!
I'm so glad this is the first video I watched this morning.
Great reminder that there are wonderful, kind people in this mean ol' world who make life better for all.
Thank you, Happy Land! I always enjoy your content.

Cena is such a wholesome guy. I remember reading about this; John Cena happened to be in the UK for shooting sessions, and hopped on a plane to Amsterdam when he read about that boy in the WSJ. According to his mum, that was the first time he smiles during the outbreak of the war.

I have my own version of "You are my sunshine," that I sing to my daughter. Her nickname is Beanie, so I would sing "You are my Squish Bean, my only Squish Bean..." Well a few months back, she decided to surprise me. After asking if she could sing it, I heard, "You are my Squish Mommy, my only Squish Mommy..." I started getting emotional, and when the song ended, I thanked her. My son is 3, and autistic. Today I was singing to him about 5 ducks, and I said, "Five little ducks..." and was about ready to say quack, but he beat me to it, with a big smile on his face. Then later I was in the hallway, heading to his room to get his stuff to change him, and he hugged my leg. That caught me by surprise, because he's never done that before.

While I wholeheartedly support a reduction of life saving medication costs, such as insulin, I still consider $50 MAX a month per such drug to be atrocious. Only the USA among the OECD nations, and even most lesser developed nations around the globe believe that a government signing a law into effect that could still run medical bills per month into the hundreds of dollars if you need multiple such medication a good thing.
Just for my own personal example: I pay 10€ per three month supply of Toujeo (long acting insulin) at the pharmacy because my health insurance covers the rest. Oh, and my monthly health insurance cost is still far lower than most such plans in the USA. That is affordable, not the still extortionate level of cost normal to the USA.
Greetz from a German in Hamburg. Germany has one of the highest ratios of percentage of GDP spent on health insurance in Europe... Which is still only 60% of the USA at on average far better healthcare outcomes than the USA. Makes you wonder, doesn't it?
