I just wanted to say that I really appreciate Jay taking the time to make a video like this and including my book! He has great knowledge and troubleshooting ability! He also has fantastic delivery! I know people really appreciate what you are doing for them with your videos!
Hey Craig! Good to hear from you! Thank you for stopping by to leave a comment and for putting together that great book! I hope you and family are doing well and business is booming! :)
I will say this. I went to college for HVAC and wish I would of just applied to be a helper and studied my EPA online and took it myself. You are right that the school if for a experienced technician, but I will say this the knowledge I learned in college gave me a little advantage because I knew about how the systems worked and how to efficiently read a wiring diagram. My wiring skills are at the level of a senior tech and I was told by my boss that there's allot of technicians with 15yrs experience that can't do allot of stuff I started doing mostly because I also have electrician experience. I have allot of experience and knowledge I can share with everyone but I would have to make a video myself to explain and teach what I know. If anyone would like for me to make a video on what books to get tips and tricks and field knowledge like my comment and reply what you would like to learn.
Are you a real life HVAC tech out there in the field? Jay's videos are great but Craig's book had save a lot of techs (me included) in a pretty tight spot!
I am the training manager for several Johnstone Supply store locations and I purchased both the book and lab manual. I have a large collection of HVAC books and this book by AC Service Tech is a very, very good book. It is so well illustrated and covers the proper procedures so well! I highly recommend this book. I also purchased his wall posters and am using them in my training classroom.
As you stated, all the necessary stuff with no fluff and it made me feel good to see his comment and the mutual respect; you both carry yourself very well. Good people
I'm new to HVAC and living in a remote area we really don't have the professional level of professionals. They are basically DIY's with a license to barely do the minimum. So people who live in remotes areas that don't have quality service, this is an excellent book to where you can maintain you own ac unit. it doesn't cover gas furnaces. BUT, along with this book I highly recommend this channel you are watching now along with "anti diy HVAC. Ted Cook, explains as if he were giving you instructions. Jay and Ted really to a good job of also serving gas furnaces, their videos alone is all you need for you to maintain you own gas furnace safely.

I would say that you probably need to write your own book. It could be similar to the videos. In the appendixes include some data tables that might be needed. You have the knowledge and the videos. I would start with how the system works then a chapter or few pages on each component eg capaciter, switch, compressor

Since I only do service and no install work, I lack the tools needed to do a job like that properly. In the future, I want to find a good installer and offer to pay him if I can film a full video of the complete install.
@@WordofAdviceTV I think you know that I am a HUGE fan of yours. respectfully said to you... I requested an install video roughly a month or so ago. The sooner you do it, the more of a youtube "monopoly" you will have on the video (at least for a short while until someone else does one) and I think your channel would literally EXPLODE (in a good way) if you did these videos! If you procrastinate on this matter, someone may "beat you to the punch". Hoping you will not disappoint me (and your other viewers). My point is... "time is of the essence"! :-)
@Jo Tu Thank you Jo Tu!! It's good to have you frequent my channel! :-) I believe you are right. If I manage to make a few videos that I have envisioned in my head, they would probably be "hits". I appreciate the encouragement to hurry up and get it done heheh. Allow me to briefly explain why it's a bit difficult for me to pull it off: 1. Finding a GOOD installer that would be willing to let me film him from start to finish would be the biggest challenge. I have not yet had anyone agree to it. 2. The camera I use (Canon A6300) overheats after about 30 minutes of filming. (many good cameras have that problem when filming for long periods of time) An average air conditioner install is about 4 hours long. To film a video like this I would need to buy at least one more camera and lense which aren't too cheap. (I will need to buy a second camera eventually anyway I guess) That way when one camera overheats, I can switch and keep filming so I don't miss anything in the install process. 3. The video files created by these cameras are very large, so I will need a few memory cards as well. (this one is the easiest, just buy a few more cards) I am not making excuses, just explaining the few things I need to get done to make it happen. But you reminded me that yes... I did want to make a video/s like that! :-) By the way, if I end up making a video of this sort, do you think I should talk with the installer during the video and ask him to explain some things/give pointers or just be quiet and let's all sit back and watch a pro work? Oh and I am thinking the end result (after I chop it up a bit) will be a 1-2 hour long video. I don't think the length would be a problem for that kind of video though... Anyway, thanks a lot for being a big fan!! And thank you for all the comments and suggestions!
@@WordofAdviceTV rent another camera for a day or borrow one from friends, family, or local viewer (ask ur FBook or other friends) and give them a plug on video. Or do like most and make one of the cams be your phone. I think most viewers will not care if you use your phone part of the time or even notice. As far as a good HVAC installer... Dude... U R in that business! I know that you would not give me an excuse but I got to tell you that the "can't find a good installer" reason sort of sounds like one. I think you probably would have the best luck trying to get somebody who's retired to do the video. Who doesn't have a perceived loss of sale or profit by educating others. Better yet, get one of your old instructors to do it. But yes you want them explaining EVERYTHING as they do it... not just silently executing. The difference would be "night and day" to a viewer. I have the book but I don’t like it. To me it is more like a back up book that you might need after you graduate and start working. As a manual per say . I am not an HVAC engineer but I have read like ten or more HVAC and refrigeration books; from air conditioning, heat pumps, cooling tower and the one I would 100% recommend is Troubleshooting and Servicing Modern Air Conditioning And Refrigeration Systems by John Tomczyk. I read that book like four times and I always found something useful that I immediately apply at work.

Haha thank you good sir! I appreciate the thought! I don't think I would have enough patience to pull that off though.. (it took Craig 3 years to complete the book I showed in the video)
It is a good book, well worth the money. all good things can be improved on. I think the videos are better than a book. I use the book more for a quick reference. The videos are way more informative for actual learning. Keep making your videos they are great.
Please make a video of how to calculate the duct system for a house, and the cfm according to the size of the grill outlet, thank you and i wish you the best
Since I don't do install work, that is not something I specialize in.. I would have to do a little studying and refreshing on my own before I can make a video on that topic. Maybe later on. But thank you for the suggestion!
Hi I'm a new student at HVAC program and they push me to buy this book (refrigeration and air conditioning technology 7th edition) please let me know what you think about this is it worth it or should I go to the book you recommended thank you
No prob man! :) People tend to forget the procedures when they don't do certain tasks on a weekly basis so a book like that is good to have and flip through once in a while. If you end up getting it, let us know what you think!
I think you will find it very useful! Unfortunately I don't know of any good furnace books as I eluded to in the video.. But thank you for commenting and asking the question! I am sure a smart technician will come along who will have a good suggestion for you.
I haven't read it all either. 😇 It's more of a reference book that you'd refer to once you have a question on something, like how to troubleshoot a TXV for example.
Is it hard to transition into refrigeration? I'm going to school for HVAC and will also be taking my schools refrigeration course. Thanks for creating these videos. They're very informative! Thanks for the book recommendations!
You're welcome! Thank you for watching! Refrigeration is a really good field to get into and usually pays more. And with an HVAC background, it should make the transition pretty easy.
Hello Jay, I really take your "word as advice", so I just bought the the book you recommend, I Used your Amazon link so you can get your credit. I just got in the HVAC business 6 months ago. So I'm eager to learn. I'm like a sponge right now, I absorb any information I can get my hands on. Love your videos. Manny.
Thank you Manny! Glad to hear my videos are useful for you! I think you will like the book but if you get the chance, come back and let us know what you think! If you are an information absorbing sponge, I am sure you will become a superior tech! Good luck in your career!
Yes, for sure. If you are interested in HVAC, you will find this book plenty interesting. I wouldn't recommend the book for someone that simply wants to fix their air conditioner though :) Only if you wish to learn more.
Looks like an awesome book. U need to hit up the book guy for a commission. Or at an absolute minimum, he should give you the money back that you paid for his books that you're promoting 4him 4 free. I am not kidding. Seriously.
Thanks for looking out for me :) I think AC Service Tech is a good guy so I really don't mind doing this for him at no cost. What goes around comes around right? Perhaps later on him and I can collaborate on some videos.. Haha maybe I can fly over there and film him doing the installs. Now wouldn't that be something...
@@WordofAdviceTV just some food for thought. A commission on a sale of this paper or ebook (ESPECIALLY AN EBOOK WITH NO PHYSICAL COST... paper, etc) should not be viewed as a cost because without you selling it... there would be no sale. You can help him and get paid at the same time! :-)
@Jo Tu Well to be fair, if the book is bought through the Amazon link, I do get a 3-5% commission from Amazon. Not as much as affiliate type of commissions would bring but still good. I also wanted to speak about his book without any commissions skewing my review. (though I guess it didn't matter since I liked the book anyway heh)
It's a good book so why not sell it? :) I got a few comments about HVAC books after I got Craig's book so this video came along. Thanks for watching and commenting!

Thank you for your opinion on the topic! :) I agree! Both books and videos are good but actually seeing it done in a video is better
Great job and good input Jay. Thank you!
Thanks for watching and commenting Mr. Russell!
Awesome video keep these videos coming👍
Thank you! :)
Hi I'm a new student at HVAC program and they push me to buy this book (refrigeration and air conditioning technology 7th edition) please let me know what you think about this is it worth it or should I go to the book you recommended thank you
Craig migliaccio
Refrigerant charging and other preceder
Hello, sir. I like your presentation. I would like to know Craig's last name. And how can I order his book
Thank you! Glad you liked the presentation. The book can be found on Amazon: amzn.to/3Gsi8NK
May I reccomend Commercial Refrigeratio for Air Conditioning Technicians
Thank you for the recommendation! I hear that's a great book! It's by Dick Wirz right? amzn.to/32ILwtl
Does this book cover the heating an ventilation specs as well or just refrigeration?
Good question
What trade did you go to school for? And was it a technical 2 year college?
I went for HVAC/R in a technical college, 1 year residential - 1 year commercial to get an AAS degree.
Thanks bro for this info..I think im going to give the book a try..
No prob man! :) People tend to forget the procedures when they don't do certain tasks on a weekly basis so a book like that is good to have and flip through once in a while. If you end up getting it, let us know what you think!
@@WordofAdviceTV i definitely will let you guys know bro..this school book is made exactly how you explained it..lol
Haha yeah, I remember some of those books were a bit of a drag...
Good book 📚 review. Nice kitchen by the way!
Haha thank you! :)

I think the book is great!

Video: Best HVAC Book. Um, I don't have any books to recommend. Um, here's a book I recommend...
Agree with you. I have the book and is really good
Thank you for another positive review! :)
I will order one from Amazon! Can you recommend a text book on furnaces please? Thank you. Nice kitchen .
I think you will find it very useful! Unfortunately I don't know of any good furnace books as I eluded to in the video.. But thank you for commenting and asking the question! I am sure a smart technician will come along who will have a good suggestion for you.
Wonderful investment and great for old and new service techs.
Thank you for confirming it!
Good book.
Hey my friend how are you..thanks.for sharing I always.watch your UA-cam vidios... where can I get those books.can I get them to HVAC soply...
Hey Tomas! Thanks for watching! The link to that book is in my description.
Plus one on Craigs book!
Thank you! :)
🙏🙏 you guys are very good!!
Thank you! Although he is better :) His videos are usually more advanced whereas mine are more basic and not always on the HVAC topic
Had this book but honestly haven’t read it yet
I haven't read it all either. 😇 It's more of a reference book that you'd refer to once you have a question on something, like how to troubleshoot a TXV for example.
modern AC & refrigeration
Can anyone recommend a good online schools to become certified or at least gain good knowledge on hvac
That’s a great book I have one
Thank you for confirming that! :)
I hate books. I love your videos....
Hahaha thanks Mr. Classic! :) Glad to hear you like the videos!
The Beach Boys walked into a bar,
Round round, get a round, I’ll get around 🎶
Sorry to disappoint you.. But since I have never listened to Beach Boys (don't do much music at all for that matter) I fail to understand that joke.
Word of Advice TV , Oh ya, you’re young, I’m old, sorry. That was one of their songs...I’ll send you something else
I was asked, where do I see myself in a year?
I don’t know, I don’t have 2020 vision...
How many books do the HVAC courses do you have to study while in school?
What is the name of the book
Would this book be helpful to some random dude just wanting to know how to do HVAC?
Yes, for sure. If you are interested in HVAC, you will find this book plenty interesting. I wouldn't recommend the book for someone that simply wants to fix their air conditioner though :) Only if you wish to learn more.
How I can get that book freely
having an apprenticeship position in HVAC design can any engineers recommend me some books?
Refrigeration and air conditioning technology, Carrier air conditioning guide
Great book!’n
Jay were can i get 2.5 lbs of r22 refrigerant so i dont have to go thru a major repair job to use another refrigerant...?
Ebay :) There is lots of it there.
Better watch out, Craig is gonna sue you for “distributing” that copyright page.
Thanks for looking out for me. 😅 Craig and I know each other so I don't think that will happen
😎😎😎
Why do you have a French Canadian accent?
They’re selling that book hard. Hahahahaha. Jeez
It's a good book so why not sell it? :) I got a few comments about HVAC books after I got Craig's book so this video came along. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Try mine under my name Charles nehme
What a effin waste of time to watch all the talk but not get one simple glimpse of the cover or the title or even the full name of the author; there are hundreds of Craigs!
advertising?)))
Nope, the video is not sponsored ;) More like a review I guess. That book was just seriously the only one I read after I was done with college. So why not showcase a fellow UA-camr's book? It was a good book after all
Can you a video on high efficiency boiler?
I don't work enough on high efficiency boilers so probably not a good candidate for a video like that.. I have had plenty of troubles with those Munchkins though heh :)
