  • To overland Morocco means many things including experiencing, quite literally, a different perspective.
And sometimes, you've got to mix it up a bit to really feel alive, so our overlanding this week is on foot and if you’re afraid of heights, you'll maybe want to watch with one eye closed, as Phil and Rich hang off Tafraoute's unforgiving mountains.
After a crazy week of playing with big rocks, it was finally time to fire up Tonka and head off into the unknown (ok, towards the Dades Gorge) for the next phase of our Morocco road trip, finding new places and adventure on the way.

In 1974 I bicycled, alone, from Paris to Algiers - every stroke of the way. The Morocco part included from Marrakesh to Figuig. (for what it's worth) Figuig, officially, is the middle of nowhere and MUCH smaller than now, fifty years later. The fist-size rocks I see in your video I remember as passing for a 'road' - which I often left entirely as overland was smoother! In '74 "Mountain Bike' and 'fat tire' remained undreamed of. I was on a reclaimed Cinelli racing frame with racing tires - little racing there was.
Rations included dried camel hump, sage tea and apricot jam. YUM! The silence was deafening.

That's one heck of a cycle ride, we know Figuig and yes it really is in the middle of nowhere. I've eaten camel but I have to say, the dried hump isn’t calling to me 😀.
As a cyclist, I love the way you’ve described the silence, all I can think en route to Algiers is... that's a lot of silence. Great memories and thank you for the comment 🙏😀

@@TheGapDecaders Well, well ! Never would I have thought to share Figuig with anyone living! It was a lot of silence, save for my noisy mind.

That mountain climb in the heat looked fierce, Izzy you didn’t hold back on saying about your enjoyment of your “space” time alone whilst Phil was climbing 😂 …. Oh and those pups - how they manage to survive in those harsh conditions….😢

Thanks Amanda, yeah you'd love it in Tafraoute. Izzy loves it when I'm out hiking, kite surfing, paddleboarding... she's like take your time, don't rush back, take as long as you need & believe me, I need it 🤣🤣. Nothing like feeling missed 😁
Yeah always difficult seeing the animals struggle in these countries 🙏😀

There’s always something with vans and that sounds fairly expensive, can't go wrong with a Hymer. Otherwise all's well 🙏😀

Rather you than me Phil. I admire you for climbing but it just doesn't do anything for me. I think I would also prefer the relaxation by and in the pool, but clearly you have it worked out between you.
Another wonderful video - many thanks.

Great vid. Just wondering about your bike lift. Is it a winch driven mechanism or hydraulic?

    • @TheGapDecaders
      @TheGapDecaders  Рік тому +1

Hi Omar, it’s a 1000kg 24v winch with remote, more than enough for the scooter & cradle. A few people have asked so I've videoed the set up, I just need to edit the footage and I'll get it out soonest. Cheers 🙏😀

@@TheGapDecaders thank you that’ll be great. Just fabricating something up to lift my spare wheel and tyres off the back of my truck, and looking for tried and tested methods so I don’t have to do it twice!

Hello, May I share an Old Testament Verse with you from Daniel 7:14 "And there was given him dominion, and glory, and a Kingdom, that all people, nations, and languages, should SERVE Him; his dominion is an Everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom shall not pass away, and His Kingdom that which shall not be destroyed." Also, can I share Isaiah 53:5 " But HE was WOUNDED For our TRANSGRESSIONS, he was BRUISED for our iniquities; the chastisement of our peace was upon Him, and with His STRIPES we are HEALED."
God the Father loves you so much that He sent Holy Sinless Jesus (His Holy Son) to earth to be born of a virgin. Then, to grow up and die on a cross for our sins. He was in the tomb for 3 days, then Father God raised Holy and Sinless Jesus Christ (Y'shua) to Life! He appeared to people and went back to Heaven. We must receive Sinless Jesus sincerely to be God's child(John 1:12).After we get saved by grace through faith in Christ, if we truly love the Lord Jesus Christ, then we will obey Jesus(John 14:15). Mark 1:15 "And saying, the time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: Repent ye, and believe the gospel." Jesus said in John 14:15 "If you love Me, keep My commandments. "There's a real hell. It says in Revelation 21:8 "But for the cowardly, & unbelieving, and abominable, and murderers, & immoral persons sorcerers & idolaters & all liars, their part will be in the lake that burns with fire & brimstone..." Please sincerely receive Holy Jesus and put your true faith and trust in Him today and please repent. Will you have a Real encounter with Holy Lord Jesus (Y'shua is His Hebrew Name) and stay in a Genuine relationship with Him daily please?
