The weather in Calgary is moderate compared to Saskatchewan. 5 degrees warmer on average in the dead of winter, and 5 degrees cooler in mid summer. Very few days are below -20, or above +30.
In an average year, I would certainly agree, although I think our Alberta weather has had some more extreme temperatures the last few years. It's not a big deal to me personally. Hey, I'm Canadian!
Education ? If you love your children, homeschool. As someone who spent forty years teaching in Canada's four western provinces, I could probably write a book on why Alberta's education system is broken.
Obviously these are not reasons not to move to Calgary. Again, these are my pet peeves and things for people moving here to be aware of for when they do relocate. It is by no way a deal breaker. 😂 It certainly has you riled up, though.
@@lifeincalgaryalberta Hey, that's Alberta ! Just be willing to replace your windshield on a regular basis. OR. You could include glass coverage on your car insurance where the annual premium would be more than the cost of a windshield replacement.
@@freddyfriesen that's basically what it says in the video. Not a deal breaker for me, but for somebody moving here, just something minor to be aware of....

Hey Mike. I do too! Honestly, every city and town has its challenges. I live in Calgary because I want to be here. The pros far outweigh any cons in my opinion!
Hello! Thank you for your points! I live in BC considering Calgary my potential places to live. However, recently I've got a new concern regarding yearly wildfire. For the last couple of years, we had severe wildfire seasons that made the air smoggy and unhealthy for us. I visited Calgary several times. Especially, it was last time that I got to visit Calgary when all airs got dusty from smog of wildfire. But I have not lived in Calgary year long so that I cannot tell I know what it really is in Calgary. Could you share your opinion on my idea?
Hi Tara. Thank you for your comments and question. Honestly, it depends upon the year and the wind. I remember being in Vancouver and experiencing intense smoke from wildfires. Calgary has years where there is sometimes some forest fire smoke, and others where there is none. Wildfire season encompasses wooded regions in BC, AB, SK, MN, ON, QC, etc and is generally a summertime event if it happens. Again, it's really dependent upon the year and the prevailing winds. Btw, Calgary would love to have you!
Isn't that what I said in the video? It's a part of a growing city and the need to expand and maintain infrastructure. It's something that I find challenging, but as mentioned, I do a lot of driving. I'll let the comment on the "4 week course" slide this time. Disparaging or racist comments are not tolerated here and your assertion could not be further from the truth.
@@clash0820 I still enjoy going back to Saskatchewan and playing tourist. We were back last year and my kids absolutely loved Moose Jaw where I was born and raised. That was unexpected. Very cool Dad moment!
I lived in Calgary for 25 years, moved there in 1990 and left in 2014, moved back to BC Kamloops, I 've seen Calgary change so much over the years and not for the good, the influx of people from all over especially immigrants from the middle east have destroyed that city for me, I do not miss the weather and the traffic and all the crap that is city life. Calgary was good back then but now is just another shit hole full of the garbage they imported from around the world....enjoy!
Calgary certainly has it's big city challenges, but progress is not made by stagnating. These things will be figured out. The weather can be another issue on its own! 😂We're not on the same page in terms of migration. Sounds like you were a BC import to the city, just as I'm an import originating from Saskatchewan. That's the story of expanding cities. People migrate to them. I do believe all people have value.
We need some skilled immigrants. What we don't need, is mass immigration of unskilled people who don't even intend on adopting the local culture or learn our language. We don't even have the homes or infrastructure we need for those who are already here, we simply cannot take more. And for those coming from down east, leave your liberal voting habits at the door.
We need doctors, nurses, construction workers, etc., not unskilled labour working jobs that take employment opportunities away from those who are here. I've witnessed first hand those who get into HR/corporate start hiring ONLY others from their home country(primarily India), and act like a clique or mafia, only looking out for eachother. Calgary is going to shit and that's just one way. Homelessness is rampant, open air drug use everywhere ESPECIALLY transit be it crack, meth, fentanyl, anything. Your place gets broken into and stuff stolen by drug addicts? Slap on the wrist and get released the next day. Hard truths.
Driving anywhere in Calgary fucking sucks, then throw in an inch of snow and holy shit, 15 minute commute now 3hrs. and that happens almost daily. worried about rock chips, vehicle break ins and idiots on the road are the biggest reason to stay away from. what skilled labor are you getting from the trash they are importing, most don't work and live on the Government paycheck.

I left Calgary in 1971. Calgary has no soul.
I think it has a lot more soul than it did in 1971.

I just visited Calgary last week for the first time and you are right it was rainy and cold.
Our weather can be a bit unpredictable, but today it's 22 degrees Celsius and the sun is out. I do love being an hour away from the mountains, though!
