I grew up in Canton, Mother Gooseland & Meyers Lake Park were wonderful places back in the days when I was growing up! Really miss them The McKinley Museum is another gem! My sister works there & she said she got to meet you! Enjoy your travels!
The McKinley Library seems pretty interesting. I always wondered why they called them libraries. Love how you find amazing things along the way Keep Safe ❤Keep Well❤
Hi Debbie! I work at the McKinley Library and Museum. It is a wonderful place! Presidential Libraries all contain documents related to that President and other history. Our presidential library is unique because it also contains a science center. William McKinley was a big advocate of education, so that is why a science center was added. We also have a planetarium!
I enjoyed the video. I plan on following your progress and watching your videos each day. I like the idea of taking your time and seeing all the sites along the way.
Awww you writing the postcard to Jenn melted my heart 🥰 so cute! ❤️ I enjoyed seeing the cherry pie with ice cream washed down with tasty cola! I could almost taste it 😍 Your videos are thoroughly enjoyable and always brighten my day. Thanks so much Jacob! Best wishes and safe travels ☀️
Really enjoying your drive on the Lincoln Hwy and all stops. In 1973 I drove from NJ to CA on the Rt 66 trek and stayed exclusively at Travel Lodges and they were great.
Welcome to my hometown! I missed this posting somewhere, damned YT algorithm! I watched a bit of catchup on your live stream post-car in Cleveland tonight and realized you had came here and I missed it! I feel like a bad fan!
The tea cup as you called it is a lovely "ride" where you hit the button, pull yourself around in circles like silly then wait for the power to reset and do it again. That's why there was the issue with it when you tried. The vacuum cleaner chair, aka Hoover, was placed there because the Hoover Company was founded here in Stark County/Canton/North Canton and manufacturered their vacuums and other products for decades funding the exhibit in the museum. I'm surprised you didn't mention the pendulum clock at the front door. It's one of my mid-list favorite things in the museum. My favorite thing IS the tea cup. The second is the general store in the Street of Shops. If anyone does make it to Canton and wants to visit the monument sans stairs, there's a back access road for people that can't make it up the stairs. Don't feel back, Jacob. I've been here 54 years and never had been able to the "Rocky thing" with the stairs. There hasn't been many Canton kids though that haven't used the sides as slides though! :D Tradition. William and Ida's two daughters are also buried in the mausoleum with their parents. There are a lot of things that you just have to come to see; beyond the dinosaurs are so many scientific things on the back section of the basement, there's a planetarium that has a theater just between the two upper floors, and there's a tomb stone in the cemetery snuggled against the monument that has Frankenstein buried there! Comments, don't believe me? Google it! :D As for Mother Gooseland, Willie/Willy was a display in a pond with seal around him. There were aquariums inside him. His paint job was simple, a powder blue pleasant paint was soothing and his eye was just a white O and a black o. This new paint job drives the freaking hell out of me. The mural and the "improved paint job" happened when they dredged his pond and improved the park. The issue with the pond is that the creek behind Willy tends to overflow it's banks and backwash into the pond so no matter how hard the parks department tries to tidy it, it ends up looking like a swamp. Many years ago, the city bricked up the inside of Willy's mouth to prevent people from entering, but afterwhile, the bricks went away. Not sure what prompted either decision, but I can guess. Hopefully you can come back and look at the rest of what Canton has to offer. There are a LOT of things--ESPECIALLY in late September and October for the Haunted Factory! :D
It was cool to see McKinley's tomb. I have been to Lincoln and Grant's tomb. I hope I can visit more presidential tombs in the future. I hope you have a safe trip and make it all the way to San Fransisco.
When you get to Fort Wayne, IN you'll have a decision to make. The Lincoln Highway splits into two different alignments here: the original 1913 alignment takes a northerly route through Goshen, Elkhart, and South Bend, while the 1928 alignment takes a southerly route through Columbia City, Warsaw, and Plymouth. The 1913 route goes through more populated cities with bigger downtown areas, while the 1928 route goes through more quiet, rural areas. Both are enjoyable in their own ways. Either alignment you take, you will end up in Valparaiso, where I live! If you're hungry when you pass through, there are plenty of good restaurants in the downtown area. Not a whole lot of Lincoln Highway stuff to see though, admittedly. Enjoy your trip!
I went to Mother Goose Land as a child. Loved it! It had a big shoe for the little old lady that you could climb around in. A sliding board themed to a giant piece of cheese for the 3 blind mice. And of course Willy! Thanks Jacob 😃
That Laughing Sal is named Beulah if I remember correctly. She used to stand outside the Laff in the Dark at Meyer's Lake and scared the crap out of me as a child!
I've lived here for 25yrs and never been to any of these places, lol. Now I have been to mother goose land a few times over the years but none of the mckinley stuff. I can't count the times I've been a foot away but never gone in. I guess I have to go now. Great video, thanks for the introduction to stuff I overlooked.
Looking forward to when you get to Iowa. That is where I live. Should be much different than your last visit in winter, lol. I still respect you for having done that. Not many do,
Hey Jacob, if you come through Oklahoma on your way back East, I highly recommend a stop at the Washington Irving Trail Museum near Stillwater. It's right up your alley! Lots of interesting and strange artifacts.
Official driving ages vary by state and over time. The rules were not set when the car was invented. Sometimes, 12 year olds have been allowed to drive. That may still be on the books in some areas.
At the bar scene on the street of shops on the Ohio McKinley Museum the card game set up on the table was called cribbage, as you can see from the wooden cribbage board on the table with the pegs in it with the cards, a game my Grandparents taught us kids back in the 1960's, fyi.
Jacob I know a place you will enjoy! It is a little off of lincoln highway but worth a visit. It is a wrestling themed hotdogs place in marshalltown iowa! The dogs are great and they have wrestling names and interesting ingredients. It is called The Flying Elbow!
The Lincoln highway used to go through Stockton, CA before it was reoriented north with the I 80…Stockton has a storybook park called Pixie Woods that would be awesome to get The Carpetbagger treatment.
This McKinley Presidential Library and Museum has been well-funded with exceptional exhibits and facilities. Then you go to places like that former park with the whale and wonder how many homeless might have been living there.
Jacob!! I have some ideas for future road trips! For a longer one, you could do Highway 61 (known as the Blues Highway) and for a shorter one, you could do the Natchez Trace!
Been playing catch up a binge watching, I love your road tours they are great ! Keep up 5he great work! Oh that diner you had the cherry pie and vintage cola, reminded me of the movie Road to Perdition where Tom Hanks pulls into this diner. The diner looks like it's in the middle of nowhere. But, any who keep up t he great vid3os
Nice to see u in my home town canton Ohio I used to go to mother goose land used to get in the old train they had there they were supposed to bring mother goose land fully back just not happend yet
It's a little known fact that William McKinley's press secretary was a velociraptor... hence, the dinosaur display in his presidential library. The more you know!
Loved the Museums, the whole Toad thing was a storybook long before the ride or Cartoon existed called Wind in the Willows and I think is even Public domain now. If you liked Ribbon I reccomend a brand called Fentimans, it's UK based but they make a Cola like that with a Cherry variant and a whole host of other vintag style drinks, their most famous being Ginger beer.
Love your videos. Can't wait for them to come out. You take us places most of us will never get to see. Great choice for t-shirt on this one. lol I am from Minnesota. Have you done the Lewis and Clark Trail? Medora is amazing. I am new to your channel so sorry if you have. Still getting caught up on videos. House on the Rock is my favorite. Would love to go there.
You didn’t stop at the Tea Pot in Chester WV! But the detour probably took you a different way. Stay safe Carpetbagger! Missed you again, right in my backyard 😩
24:53 The colorful set of tubes is also a xylophone-like percussion instrument. The longer the tube, the lower the note and vice versa. It's a shame that has fallen into disrepair b/c that would be a colorful, fun thing to play music on., although you'd have to have the right kind of mallet to get a good sound.
Come to Kentucky!! Lincoln was born here!!
Good to see you in PA !
Thanks!
Having a blast Jacob !!!! Btw...I learn sooo much from you. 😉✌️❤️🙂 safe travels my friend.
I grew up in Canton, Mother Gooseland & Meyers Lake Park were wonderful places back in the days when I was growing up! Really miss them The McKinley Museum is another gem! My sister works there & she said she got to meet you! Enjoy your travels!
Aren't the glassmen from Canton? Or the bluecoats?
@@craigcole9337 Don't know!
Thanks again for this next leg of the journey!
I feel asleep and when I woke up you where in Georgetown Kentucky looking at a animatronic black bird that didn't work
You are so entertaining and cool😎 Thanks for all you give!!!
I like that you are able to take your time and show the roadside attractions. TY, another great video Jacob.

@@loulewis7473 It did look wonderful. That would certainly be an awesome place to work .Thank you for answering my question .It is much appreciated .
I loved the abandoned mother goose land! I also love when you show the hotel details, it helps me know where are trustworthy places to stay!
TCB getting emotional seeing abandoned roadside figures makes me want to cry myself 😢 Poor Ole Willy the Whale 🐳
No way! You're literally in my backyard! I live in Akron and you're stopping by Canton. That's incredible!!!
Well "literally" in your backyard would be him standing in your actual backyard but I understand.
I enjoyed the video. I plan on following your progress and watching your videos each day. I like the idea of taking your time and seeing all the sites along the way.

That stretch through Wyoming is also referred to I-80 and it's super dangerous.
Lots of deer there if I remember. I drove through it at night (very slowly)

Your road trips are truly inspirational! Thank you for sharing another awesome adventure
Every abandoned place Jacob comes across has a can of beans. 😂. He never disappoints.
At 1:19 for a split second i was confused because he said "so please, lets check this out!" instead of "so please, follow me" (then he said it) haha
I trip to see all the presidential libraries would be fun
You can feel the burn
This is kewl! I feel like I'm in the front seat with you on this trip 🤘
Thanks Jacob!

I was born and raised in Latrobe PA. That was awesome to watch. Thanks
I am originally from Greensburg.
Hey Jac, you missed shanksville flight 93 on your way by to ohio.
Hotel rooms are more expensive than they normally would be, that figures. Same could be said for literally everything nowadays lol.
My husband is from Canton OH and I've been there to the McKinley library. I've been to the monument too. I slid down the sides. It's normal.
I went to Mother Goose Land as a child. Loved it! It had a big shoe for the little old lady that you could climb around in. A sliding board themed to a giant piece of cheese for the 3 blind mice. And of course Willy! Thanks Jacob 😃

Willy has seen some stuff that no one should see lol
Jake is having soo much fun in those small town museums. I would be there if I was in the area. Have fun Jake!
So interesting. Thanks for taking us along.

we had the Disney Channel and I remember looking in the magazine every month to see if they put my favorite movies on. The good old days.
