  • Sorry for the longer than normal video. This video was kind of an impromptu thing since I had to clean the bars at my gym; I thought I'd make a video to go along with it.
    Bars in this video:
    1. Rogue Bar 1.0
    2. Rogue Castro Bar
    3. GetRxd Stealth Bar

    That is way too much time cleaning the barbell. The nylon brush is way too hard for the barbell coating as well. Use a horse hair brush over the bar and sleeves a few times to knock off excessive chalk and spray a micro fiber cloth with wd-40 and wipe down the shaft only. Use 2 in 1 oil for your sleeves. You will be done in minutes. My Ivanko barbell is outside, so because of humidity I try to do this every other day.

    How long does the 3 in 1 oil typically stay on the bar for once they start to be used again? Will chalk cake up the first few uses?

    How often would you recommend oiling the bar? I just bought a Rogue Ohio Bar- Black Zinc finish. I live in Chicago so the weather change can be pretty extreme with the seasons and the humidity can get bad in the summers sometimes. I workout in my garage gym so its not inside. Would you recommend oiling the bar every month? Or possibly bringing the bar in doors after done working out with it?

    • @AMRAP
      @AMRAP  8 років тому +1

      sean gallagher I would recommend just bringing it inside if you can. You won't have to worry too much until that zinc starts coming off, and you have two coats of it, but when you start seeing bare steel I would just make sure you wipe it down when you're done using it to get the moisture off, and cleaning maybe once a month depending on the humidity.

    How would you go about cleaning a Speal Bar (bare steel) that hasn't been cleaned in over a year?
    I'm talking caked on rust, chalk, and skin cells.

    • @AMRAP
      @AMRAP  8 років тому

      Armour783 same basic concept, I would start with wiping it down with windex and trying to get the chalk and skin off going over it with the steel bristle brush, then hit it with 3-1 oil or wd40 and go over it again with the steel bristle brush.

      It would depend on how rusty or dirty it is. The fact that it's bare steel I would use a hand drill with both a ruff and softer brass wire wheel, although it's an aggressive method it takes off EVERYTHING, After using the ruffer wheel then use the softer wheel to buff up the entire bar, comes out really shiny!, only problem with this is that if you want to keep them looking like this once a week it's very important to wipe down the bar with 3&1 oil, it will leave a small layer to help protect it from oxidizing so fast. I got tired of wiping down my bars every week so I just ended up buying 7 brand new stainless steel Rouge Ohio power bars! They were not cheap but no more weekly cleaning nor maintenance, only a few drops of 3&1 oil in the bearings once in a while.

    Hey all. I only have buildup rust on my sleeves. Nylon and 3 in 1 did nothing. I got some off with a brass brush but there's still a bunch on there. Would using a gun bore cleaner be better?

      I think he said that he recommends plastic bristle brush because the others scratch up the bar.

    how would i prevent the bar from rusting? is there anyway to paint it with anti rust paint or would i have to clean off the sweat after every time i use it?

    • @razziez
      @razziez 5 років тому

      Heyo, couple years late here. You can cerakote barbells. Standard paint would probably not be durable enough.

    but coating the barbell with 3in1 oil doesn't make the surface slippery?Sure using a rag to clean it helps but inside the knurling?

    • @AMRAP
      @AMRAP  7 років тому +1

      remwin2 it will make the Barbell slippery. You have to give it time to sit and absorb before using again.
