  • In this episode we install and test an SLP 1.5 kit on our test 2022 850 Matryx. We go through the garage install and then take the sled out on the snow and side by side test its performance gain against a bone stock, identical Matryx. SLP has done a great job on an affordable kit to bump up the Axys or Matryx 850 performance.

I also run this kit on my sleds and like it as well.

I have the SLP 1.5 kit as well. I think it gave it good overall gain. I do get some det issues now and then when on and off the throttle.

How often does it set off the det sensor? What elevation you ride at?

@@mountainsleddergarage8627 usually only on the trail heading back. When I’m in and out of WOT. I’m at sea level or around. Definitely under 3000

Ok, that makes sense at low elevation

Increased compression with an aftermarket head, more prone to detonate. Did you buy the low elevation kit?

Looks like you ground down a socket for the nut on the clutch pin, how does that work? I bought a used 2020 850 RMK snowmobile with the SLP head, Kurts gear down kit and Kurts Helix. Love the snap of the sled but I get DET issues in and out of the throttle every now and again but not at WOT. Riding in northern Utah 7-10,000 feet tried fuel from two different stations that do a lot of business so I know the 91 non-ethanol is fresh. Added VP octane booster to the fuel but still DET codes. Think I am over revving but can't say that I have ever watched my RPM's which I realize is a mistake now. Took my clutch apart and see the guy had stock 10-62 weights in it. Think I need heavier weights to load the motor more so it doesn't over rev. Also changing to QD2 as I think Kurts is a little too low geared for my 155 2.6 track. Can't wait for the snow to fly and get riding.

Be careful with the Kurt’s gear down, most of those kits are the save gearing as the pro gears, not as low as the QD2.

You are right they are like pro gears. I always thought they were lower because they advertise a 2.37 gearing but that is final drive not the pulley ratio. So with that looks like I have geared my sled lower with QD2 not higher. Thanks for the heads up.
Looking at getting some Bikemann SNYPR adjustable weights. Do you have any experience with those? Snowest did a podcast on them with Dan Adams and Jared Sessions.

Good diy vid man! Why don’t the 800s have an o2 sensor?

Those are pipe temp sensors, not O2 sensors. It’s just newer technology on a newer motor for the 850.
