    And this is exactly why you should not overhype kids at a young age, let them grow and develop, Ja Morant wasn't even ranked in high school, now he's in the running for NBA ROY

    • @youngjit7444
      @youngjit7444 4 роки тому +24

      Let’s not act like he didn’t deserve that recognition though. A 7th grader averaging 20 against varsity talent? Come on bro, anybody would hype that.

    • @555125kevin

      He literally didn't grow, it's twice as hard to make the NBA if you're short

    • @fallback8314
      @fallback8314 4 роки тому

      if you watch morant play closely and compare him to other nba point guards you'll see as i do why he was virtually unrecruited coming out of high school he is not all that and in fact i think he's a bit of a bust

    • @NigerianBaller
      @NigerianBaller 4 роки тому +2

      @@fallback8314 bust? He's rookie of the year. How is that being a bust?
      He wasn't recruited because of his size. If you see him standing next to Westbrook, Westbrook towers over him, and Westbrook is 6-4, size matters in basketball, In high school I was undersized for my position and even though I was killing in tryouts, I didn't even make the team because they already had 5 players taller than me on the team already, it wasn't because I didn't have the skill

    2 important details that you didn't touch on is that 1.) he got injured 2.) He only grew to be 5'9". We know that there are very few successful players at the elite high school and college level at that height. Those that were able to overcome were all freak of nature athletes whereas his strength is his skill-set not his athleticism.

    • @fallback8314
      @fallback8314 4 роки тому +2

      perhaps but junior college basketball is FAR from the nba yet he isn't killing it on the junior college level either. except for his ft's, his shooting percentages suck and he's only scoring like 8ppg getting good minutes

    • @caverlyyooooo
      @caverlyyooooo 3 роки тому +2

      He also kept changing schools in high school Went to 3 or 4 different ones. And then after Oak Ridge didn't he go to a basketball prep school for a year? Senior year at Oak Ridge was where it became clear for me that he was no longer headed for pro ball. Him transferring in was basically the crown jewel of a loaded team led by Emmitt Williams that won the state championship and was a top ten HS team in the country. Watching all their games, it was clear that he was a good player, very intelligent with high technical levels, but he didn't exactly outshine the other big players on the team. In fact, I would say that he played his role well but ultimately it was other players there who shined rather than Damon, sadly :(

Bro did u literally look at any of his videos his senior year in high school and see all the 5 and 4 stars he was playing with??? Of course he wasn’t going to lead the team in scoring. Idk y people don’t get the fact that in a sport like b-ball if u r under 6’2 or 6’3 u WILL have issues once u hit that elite AAU or college level! The kid was 5’9 when he finished growing and wasn’t jumping outta da gym or the fastest on the court! I know all of this not just from watching/playing ball myself @ 6’0, but also I have a 15 yr old son that was sought after ALOT when he was younger, but is now only 5’8 and was actually cut 4 the 1st time ever in a new highschool in a new state! Even though I KNOW that it was wayyy more of a political move, him being cut! BUT!! If he was 6’4 he would STILL BE sought after by all of the top AAU programs and w/or w/o politics, the new school he went 2 he woulda made the team! It’s simple what happened 2 this guy! He wasn’t tall enuf, and just not as athletic as a majority of his peers!! He’s still better than most 5’9 guards, just like my son! But if he had like 5 or 6 more inches it would be a whole bother conversation!!!!!!!

    This video half way true, his middle school year he played at a Christian school that played a weak schedule. Anyone that knows basketball knows that at those type school the varsity competition is like middle school. So he honestly wasn’t playing kids on his level. When he hit 9th grade he played for real varsity programs, With national schedules and that competition is different. Every game you going against a real baller, not a kid that’s just on the team cause dad donated money. He still did decent and put up decent numbers cause he can actually hoop. They were just on his level.

Versus good comp, the lack of athleticism and physicality will catch up to you; he wld have to work so hard to impact games whereas being 3 inches taller wld make it alot easier
