As someone who struggled with cystic acne for nearly ten years, there's absolutely NO way olive oil cleared it up 🤣 it wasn't until I addressed increasing cell turnover and hormonal imbalances that I saw any improvement
For real! Cystic acne is an under the skin issue. Topical acne treatments don’t really address it, so freaking olive oil isn’t! There is also some research showing that leaving olive oil on the skin actually increases dryness. So I’m pretty sure she isn’t experiencing any miracles from it!
That seemed very clear to me too. She just didn't know exactly how to word what she meant. Not sure how these 2 were SO confused. Too me seemed rather rude/snarky through whole thing. Disappointed
I agree I definitely think she had success from accutane and can now use whatever she wants on her skin without breaking out. She's crediting the products for the clear skin when it was of course the drug. Either that or she absolutely doesn't do this routine on a regular basis, I can't believe it.
Agreed. I did a round of accutane around 3 years ago and my skin just isn’t prone to breaking out like it was. I can use so many products I would have never been able to use before. I will say that my skin went from incredibly oily to super dry and stayed dry. I’d still rather deal with dry skin than what I was dealing with before. Anyway, it’s probably the accutane.
I was told by my Brazilian and Portuguese mom to ALWAYS ALWAYS wear sunscreen 🧴 since I was pretty much born. She said brush your teeth 🪥 and put sunscreen on no matter what the weather and if I was leaving the house or not. Those were her last words before I moved to America when I was 17! I’m thankful to her EVERY DAY!🇧🇷🇵🇹🩰✊🏻
Interesting… I’m also Brazilian and my mother never told me that 🥲🙌🏽 there was a trend in Brazil to use coca cola on the body to get tan so a lot of people didn’t know the importance of sunscreen!
@@Babbie48 oi amiga! Yes, I know that many Brazilians STILL worship the sun ☀️ and don’t use sunscreen, but because I’m also Portuguese, I inherited mainly o DNA da minha vovó portuguesa. I actually (unfortunately sometimes) hardly look brasileira like my parents. But my mom was much ahead of the times and knew that especially for people like me and grandma (we both are really fair skinned with dark hair) sunscreen is nonnegotiable! My grandma 👵🏻 never goes in the sun and has perfect skin till this day! I’m grateful that my mom put her Havaianas 🩴 down and made me wear it. I CAN attest that many of my friends used baby oil and all kinds of crazy stuff for a tan!
Well it could be that acutane actually worked though. It's just coincidence and confirmation bias that she began using olive oil and 2-3 months later her skin was entirely clear. She just stopped using it but for many people it has long-term effects.
Jane and Susan!!😍🔥 Thank you Susan for highlighting technical experts! As a cosmetic formulator and chemist myself, I often feel we are not as well-respected. I think marketing and internet professionals collaborating with chemists can really elevate our industry!
I just love love love these kind of skincare reaction videos . That’s why we should never take advice from celebrities, they have an entire team working behind them , that’s why they look the way they look . They should just stick to what they’re great at : singing , acting , etc, etc ….
interesting that the chemist says there’s not a ton of data behind co-q10. i’ve heard that it’s one of the better antioxidants, especially given it’s fat soluble.
Accutane didn't cure my cystic acne either. Neither did ANY of the prescription topical antibiotics or benzoyl peroxide type products that dermatologists prescribed to me over many years. 🤷♀️ One of things that has made the most positive difference in my skin (and helped it to finally clear up in my mid 30s) was to start oil cleansing with a non-emulsifying (i.e. no surfactants) oil cleanser as my first cleanse. Emulsifying ones are fine if you prefer that, but a non-emulsifying one has done wonders for my skin!
@Ilona SAUTRON I've tried a couple that are really good. The ones by Liv Botanical, evanhealy and Franklin and Whitman are all really lovely. But honestly, what I tend to use most (and it seems to work just as well) is organic grapeseed oil!
8:57, I think she meant "Normal" (not Neutral) i.e. accutane changing her skin from oily to normal. I am not accutane but I use tret topically and it has changed my skin type from oily/combo to normal/combo, which I think is a common experience for ingested/topical retinoid use.
Just watched the video 3 times and tbh I think it was insightful and very educational, I understand why some people that are more fragile can see this as bullying but tbh, it was straightforward and very not sugarcoated, I love transparency and honesty, I didn’t hear one single disrespect to the girl Choe, in the end of the day that’s what is the video about, THEIR PERSONAL OPINION, so no one has to agree neither watch.
I don't think she actually has dry skin, I think her skin care routine is in such a backward order that she's not benefitting from any of the products and your oils aren't really giving moisture to your skin and it's making it impossible for the actual moisturizers to penetrate...... girl needs an intervention lol
Theres a lot of conflicting info out there for skincare but one thing thats not refutable is that you put lightweight/watery products first and heavy/oily products last. Thats just basics!
Ok honestly, switching from using towels to single use paper towels made a huuuuuge difference in my skin. My skin is doing so much better using single use paper towels
I bought a megapack of washcloths from costco and use those on my face. That way its always a clean towel but doesnt go into landfill. PS, "biodegradable" isnt as wholesome as ppl think. Not trying to shame anyone for using a biodegradable single use item, but just something to be mindful of.
When I saw her face up close I was so surprised seeing so many wrinkles in her under eye while she put on two different types of eye creams...But then she was tugging and rubbing her skin around her eyes all the time. That's something to note, especially considering her age.
Yes I was so suprised! She looks so old in her pictures from this year wow. I mean, her skin looks 40. How is that possible?? She's so young. She's a year younger than me and her skin looks that bad?? No way. And I have nowhere near access to Skincare professional and that amount of money. At least She's using a sunscreen? But I don't feel she is using it that much considering the look on her skin. I really hope she gets some guidance because she's also in an industry where having good skin is a must to work
I feel like the cosmetic chemist was professional with her analysis, but some of Susan’s comments and reactions were a little unnecessary in my opinion. Chloe is just doing her best and clearly it’s working for her. It’s great to see where her routine could be improved, but I got mean girls vibes from Susan. I think there’s a way to still be entertaining while not being quite so harsh.
Susan was pretty clear that she was upset for her that she was given the wrong info which is true .. young girls are often fed the wrong info .. it’s not a direct attack on her but her dermatologist
Susan I normally love your videos, but this one felt major mean girl vibes. We love to learn about logistics behind why skincare works or doesn’t, but making fun of her for every choice she makes really turns me off to your advice. As humans we are always learning and experimenting, and there’s a way to be curious with more love. I like to learn from people in a nonjudgmental way- This felt like gossip hour
I have a feeling she didn't use Accutane long or consistent enough. I know a lot of people say it doesn't work Because it gets worse because it gets better and they don't give It enough time or They aren't consistent. Just a feeling I have but I could be completely wrong.
Surprised no one mentioned hyaluronic acid in a dry climate is bad for your skin. Glad she said eye creams are a waste of money. Just an expensive facial moisturizer in a little jar or tube.
Squalene oil fit? I was using it after creams but then I changed cause I thought it was lighter and I moved it up a level and thought my creams were locking it in
Had cystic pimples around the jaw line and chin years back - and it was probably due to hair product (styling wax - had some hair layers dropping on my face) and shaving product lol. Aaaaand potential irritation due to the ends of my hair pricking my face 🤔 Now using my cleansing balm as the glide for the razor, and diligently cleansing the face. I think my occlusives helped a biiiit when I still had my hair framing my face, and chopping my hair off after deciding to hell with it did wonders. Whatever the reason was, no way to be sure unless I visit the derm, but so far the pimples cleared up so kept the cleansing balm for razor slicking, and the short spiky 'do. XD On retinol now too and glad that skin is behaving well. :D
I usually like these but this was a little catty. I just thought you were like the mean girls critiquing her skincare routine and acted superior because she wasn’t very educated about the products or how to use them. I really thought her video was refreshing and sweet honestly even if she didn’t use things properly. It all comes with age and she is so young. Give her a break!
Sadly, I agree. It feels more like a video of how many things they can laugh at and ridicule for their own entertainment rather than an educational and supportive way to teach about skincare.
Same. I looove Susan but I felt the same vibes. On Instagram she said she thinks people are saying there were mean girl vibes because of the olive oil reaction but it was throughout the whole video. Especially when reading the description of the products online. Again, I love Susan and support her but I was a little put off by this video
@Buttercup2935 Yeah it was uncomfortable to watch. It was throughout the whole video. I don’t even want to rewatch it because it was sad watching these two women pick apart another woman. They could have said all of these things in a nicer way. I do remember in high school having friends that were mean so I felt like it was okay to be mean, too. Thankfully, I am old now and know it is never okay!
Chloes routine obviously works for her because her skin looks flawless and healthy. living libations is one of the better brands out there. I’ve been using and working with this line for years. Not sure why they seem so conflicted about it. Everyone skin is different and one product that works for her may not work for someone else even with the “same skin type”.
Agree, that seems a little mean, and what I’d really like from an expert after watching a routine like this - how come she looks gorgeous if everything she’s done is do wrong? That one would be interesting.
I normally really enjoy all of your videos but this one disappoints me. It feels very mean girlish. Two girls sitting around making fun of another girl. Your info clearly was meaningful but could have been verbalized in such a way that seemed helpful instead of like you are making fun of her. I hope future ones of these will be nicer.
Depends on the moisturizer you're using. If it's very thick and occlusive, before, and if you're using something very light and watery or gel-type, after. At least that's what I read scouring differents sources on the internet when I started using the oil. Because I use a very thick moisturizer, I use it before.
Accutane sadly doesn't get rid of everyone's acne and some people it gets rid of it and then it comes back. It unfortunately isn't successful for everyone even if they do complete the course of treatment. I'm shocked that she attributes curing her cystic acne to natural products since it's usually hormonal which topical skincare wouldn't really be able to effect.
No one here used accutane for a year and results only lasted for like 7 months and then went back to their normal acne?? Also why dont they talk about how damaging it can be for your body. Sorry for my english
It is not super rare for people to need several rounds of accutane to get the long lasting results. Also doctors are the ones who are supposed walk you through the possible side effects and monitor your bloodwork to screen for issues, if influencers just started fear mongering with side effects that are not that common it would be detrimental, they might even get into legal trouble for swaying people away from medical interventions, which it is.
