We don't live in a free country. The government picks laws for fun. Also you can't have fun unless there is tax on it. Who is the government to dictate to us what we can and can't do and control every aspect of our lives without us having a say in it?
they have to be operable pedals, as in they have to be able to move the bike through the pedals alone, no electric motor. More over, even if it has operable pedals, it cant have a throttle if it goes above 20 mph.
@@kingderpington6082 bull 28 for me and we don't give a shit what you're slave masters say my bike goes 51 mph but we're not the same I'm not a frickin lowlife slave
San diego here, no license registration or insurance, they impounded my bike and gave me a 1500$ ticket. plus impound fees which took over a month to get a vin after it was taken. another 3k. $ 4.5k total.
At least in California it's not all that grey area, and it's probably not in Florida either. An ebike has to have pedals, and a motor with a nominal wattage of 750W or less. It has to be 28mph max speed with no throttle (class 3) or 20mph max speed with a throttle (class 2). If it isn't that, it isn't a bike. Those Talaria and Sur Ron bikes live in a place where they are not legal on any public roads because they do not qualify as bikes, and do not have the required features to have a VIN and be registered as a motor vehicle. My ebikes are both pedal bikes that can legit be rode with pedal power alone. Both of them are technically illegal, both in terms of having throttles over 20mph, and in terms of being able to slightly eclipse 28mph (both of them can get into the low 30s with a full battery). They also both look like bikes, quack like bikes, and aren't so far removed from the legal limits as to be blatently illegal. I've never gotten as much as a glance from a cop. Anyway, point here is that a Sur Ron or Talaria is obviously not street legal, and a lot of places are cracking down on those. Just having pedals on a 45mph motor bike is likewise not going to save you if a cop clocks you at 45mph and cares/knows what the law on the bikes actually is. That cop misspoke, but he was not pulling the 28mph number out of his ass. The sidewalk laws have some variance by local, but a class 3 ebike is usually NOT allowed on sidewalks, so he was probably correct that you can't use it on a sidewalk. Having pedals on a bike that looks like it can be ridden like a bike at 28mph or there abouts probably is good enough to be left alone on roads and bike trails, but in most cases even that is illegal if it is throttle powered or if it tops 28mph. (also if a cop asks you about your motor, say something that claims or implies 750W... like "I'm not sure, but I think it said 750W", because that is also a gotcha).
I'm sorry to hear this happened to you, bro. Even though you were in the wrong, it's hard to know that others are getting away with way more than this in politics.
Sorry that happened to ya but thanks for sharing. Im in the 901 & the police here could care less that I'm on a Ron, but i do try to stay out their way by primarily riding side streets & bike lane roads. ☮️ & keep your head up.
This is the problem with these bikes. I ride my Sur Ron a lot. Have a license and I ride on the sidewalk!! I don’t ride crazy and don’t ride like an ass. Also I don’t go over about 32mph max while on the sidewalk. 20-25mph is plenty. Don’t do wheelies. I abide the law as far as bikes go. Use the traffic buttons and cross the street slowly. I don’t even play!! And this is why!!! Also if you are trying to get one of these as you have a suspended license, buy a regular e bike that is limited to 28mph. And don’t be stupid. Nuff said
Couldn’t agree more. If I were operating an actual car, like ya know the ones that weight 3 or 4 thousand lbs and can fit actual people into, and forward their momentum at quite the speed… Than yea I would get it. Lol
only risking the lives of other people, and creating potentially incredibly dangerous situations for motor vehicles and pedestrians. And if he hits a car or a person he doesnt have insurance to cover the damages.
Ebikes kill a lot of people. "I was riding a bike, bro." Is like saying, "I was just riding buzzed, bro." Going over 28 on an ebike is going over bicycle speeds while you still only have bicycle wheels and bicycle brakes.
The thing is an electric motorcycle, even mopeds were regulated back in the day, today it’s the Wild West, I got busted for riding mini bikes as a kid, just a fact of life.
Dude what the fuck you got arrested? I know You're very calm and Respectful they did you dirty This is why people don't like cops Be safe out there brother
a sur ron is not a class 2, or any class of ebike in any state. It is legally classified as a moped or even just a motorcycle. This is the federal law, state laws can only make it more strict.
Wow, that sucks! Up here in Ontario Canada aperantly if the bike motor is over 500W you need insurance, reg etc, wich is total bs, mine is a 1500W hub motor and isnt very fast, has peddles, so if I get hassled I will have to spend way more money on a 500W mid drive which will be about the same touque and speed to have a decent ride, it is all these super ebikes and kids being goofs that is screwing it up for everybody.
Here in CA, just tell them you are homeless, and they will give you 600K luxury condo for free! You can also steal and rob people, and they will let you go. Saying you are a law abiding citizen is the fastest way of getting into trouble!
Dang, hope that doesn't reflect your typical daily attitude. So much to be grateful for in life, and yes I know it's a struggle often. Been dealing with depression and anxiety for decades. Fox news, or any news for that matter just made things a LOT worse. I've got a Stealth bomber clone, and worry about the cops too. Hope you have a good day.
@@alphonsotate2982 No, they aren't. Those assertions are demonstrably, provably false ...undeniably. The disinfomation campaigns Americans are willing to swallow hook, line and sinker are astounding.

There's simple solution to this. If you can afford surron, Talaria, eride or any other of these E-Motorcycles, you can afford to get a license and register them. Here in UK I have my surron registered and police never bothered me.
I got a dui but I need a bike to commute to work. Do you think it’s not a wise idea to get a Sur-Ron? Even if I’m being respectful and staying the bike lane.
Bro that's fucked up!! I bought Me and my wife bombers instead. They will hit 65mph and look similar to dual sport motorcycles but have functional pedals and pedal assist. You might wanna think about one of those maybe?? They're pretty much unlimited how much powered you can put into em and they have headlights, brake lights and turn signals.
Do like me, i have DIY Mountain bike with a 3000W motor, 72V battery, it's faster than a Surron, has pedals and speeds, passes under the radar no problem, but don't ride on the sidewalks, it's dangerous.
The laws in a lot of the way are behind the times and contradictory. I live in PA for example and a Moped requires a license, registration, and insurance and plates. It also has to be 50 cc or less and can't do over 25 mph. An ebike in this state must be padel assist only and can't do more than 20. Requires no license, registration, insurance or plates. But I'd be willing to bet almost no one knows that. Almost every ebike I see on the road and I see a lot of them now are 28 mph plus throttle bikes. Every single one of those people is driving a motorcycle by legal definition. It's too fast to even be a moped. That's nutty. I feel for the police. How are they supposed to know at a glance if a bike is legal or not? Right now they are kind of at the mercy of peoples honesty except in cases where it's just simply obviously not true. Bikes with enormous motors for example or yeah bikes that don't have pedals so aren't bikes at all.
What the hell. I have a Spark Bandit and I even had Florida Highway Patrol clear me for riding anywhere so long as I have pedals, on top of the chief of police in my town riding mine and complimenting it. Your case got totally fucked around with man.
But it’s not a motorcycle, they won’t even let you register it as a motorcycle if you tried to. Putting this guy in jail for 3 months and ruining his job and his life and taking all of his money is just insane. Seriously, he didn’t hurt anyone or steal from anyone or do anything and at all. The judges should have looked at this and threw it out immediately, it’s just so wrong seriously, the way they use the legal system no longer serves us but does significant harm to certain people in society that do not deserve it and it’s only going to get worse unless we the people stand up and change the system ourselves by what ever means possible. What do you think I mean by that?
@@thirdeyesurvivor3886 if he had turn signals and lights on it he could register it... also, he was let off the hook and warned my guy. He flew too close to the sun
Pretty bad these people in NY can go in and rob all these stores and not see a single night in jail and just get a slap on the hand but they slam you with a 90 day jail sentence for some stupid crap like this just shows how messed up our police system and laws really are
Im subscribing just to know when you get out this situation is fucked tbh and I want you to keep your head high you shouldn't be going to jail for this
So is there seriously nothing at all you can do about this, theres no way any judge will see this as right, 3 months jail time with real criminals for riding an electric bike

We don't live in a free country. The government picks laws for fun. Also you can't have fun unless there is tax on it. Who is the government to dictate to us what we can and can't do and control every aspect of our lives without us having a say in it?
You can put a bottom bracket on any bike for peddles
they have to be operable pedals, as in they have to be able to move the bike through the pedals alone, no electric motor. More over, even if it has operable pedals, it cant have a throttle if it goes above 20 mph.
@@kingderpington6082 yes that's what a bottom bracket with crank set and sprocket do lol
@@kingderpington6082 bull 28 for me and we don't give a shit what you're slave masters say my bike goes 51 mph but we're not the same I'm not a frickin lowlife slave
San diego here, no license registration or insurance, they impounded my bike and gave me a 1500$ ticket. plus impound fees which took over a month to get a vin after it was taken. another 3k.
$ 4.5k total.
thank you for sharing your story sir
Man, you watch those sur ron guys in Texas and California and there are 60 people on these group rides and the cops say nothing!
Yea cops don’t care in Texas
remember we live in free world were systems don’t want you have fun and live just work and pay tax then drop you in box at end of your taxing life
At least in California it's not all that grey area, and it's probably not in Florida either.
That's why I ride a ecells 5 star it goes 40 mph and it looks like a bicycle 😊
Nuff said
Good luck buddy. It gets better. You learned from your mistake. That's more than 90% of people who continue harmful patterns.
90 days for this is bs.
This is why I went hyper scooter Cops really don't know what to do when they see it I don't live in a big city
The peasant gynocentric system has to ruin everything. When tyranny becomes normality, disobedience becomes duty.
Yeah this is a crazy story I'm sorry you had to go through all that Much love to man
This is exactly how overbearing governemt ruins the lives of normal everday people
Dude I’m in the same situation with my license and ride an eboard to get around. I moved out of state and can’t get my license until I move back.
I’m working on the last step to get licensed again and for now just use my onyx which is fast as hell but with pedals there isn’t a wrong in it
Floriduh. Sorry about your sitch. Good luck in the future!
This is why you don't talk to police if they are aggressive
All this and you still say you’re not anti cop. We are jailing our citizens for riding a bike.
Ebikes kill a lot of people. "I was riding a bike, bro." Is like saying, "I was just riding buzzed, bro." Going over 28 on an ebike is going over bicycle speeds while you still only have bicycle wheels and bicycle brakes.
you mean an electric motorcycle...
The thing is an electric motorcycle, even mopeds were regulated back in the day, today it’s the Wild West, I got busted for riding mini bikes as a kid, just a fact of life.
It's an electric e bike, dirt bike at worst definition. Can't plate it. Completely different law broke
@@Markgseven23 who said? I called it a electric motorcycle, you said dirt bike.
Dude what the fuck you got arrested? I know You're very calm and Respectful they did you dirty This is why people don't like cops Be safe out there brother
What state is this?
Class 2 can be ridden anywhere including bike lanes, trails, and sidewalks. No license needed. No need to stop for law enforcement
a sur ron is not a class 2, or any class of ebike in any state.
What? You make Fox News look strangely accurate. lol
@@OpenmindedHusker1 they are right
@@alphonsotate2982 No, they aren't. Those assertions are demonstrably, provably false ...undeniably. The disinfomation campaigns Americans are willing to swallow hook, line and sinker are astounding.
Dude I’m from Canada and that is 100 percent correct hahaha
Twenty eight miles per hour on a sidewalk is ridiculously fast
I’m suspended due to an accident and if I get in trouble one more time I go to jail
Feel bad for you Cuz, that's NUTS!!! It's the same here in the uk 🇬🇧 bra! Listen I've served nearly 10 in prison!!! 90 3 months will fly by trust me! Chin up brudda you'll be good I promise 👊🏽
There's simple solution to this. If you can afford surron, Talaria, eride or any other of these E-Motorcycles, you can afford to get a license and register them. Here in UK I have my surron registered and police never bothered me.
Yepp, got fully comp' domestic use insurance on mine and it was 60 for the year. Why risk throwing it all away for a few quid.
I got a dui but I need a bike to commute to work. Do you think it’s not a wise idea to get a Sur-Ron? Even if I’m being respectful and staying the bike lane.
Don't stop for police you got to have a secret route to go home
My bro Move down to mexico Cancun area You can still get a job from home down there
Bro that's fucked up!!
Hi! Where can I find this bomber bike? Thanks for your time
Please do tell where we can get one
He doesn't have any money but he has a $5000 ebike.
That's his transportation. Plenty of people that don't have any money but have a car worth $5000
He is in America. Its focused solely around the car industry and not people being close to 3rd places , food, work or anything else.
Free my guy. Am so sorry this had to happen to you. This cop is heartless just ruined somebody's life for no reason.
So homie is locked up right now?!
And now am out but yea
Respect from 🇬🇧
Do like me, i have DIY Mountain bike with a 3000W motor, 72V battery, it's faster than a Surron, has pedals and speeds, passes under the radar no problem, but don't ride on the sidewalks, it's dangerous.
The thing is, legally speaking you were riding a motorcycle, basically. You should have taken your warning more seriously.
Can someone help me out I’m planning on getting a talaria x3 would I be fine to only ride sidewalks with pedals?
Just ride it like a bike on side of the sidewalk not on it do not go over 28 mph
Depends where you live
HANDS OFF OUR BIKES
we never adopted any policy suppressing or traveling
What state is this being filmed in?
Fl
Damn bro you ran into that ONE cop that throws the book at you condolences
This dude obviously had a prior record with dui and they aren’t gonna play with that especially driving on a revoked or suspended
Not a grey area. Surron not an e bicycle. It’s an electric dirt bike.
Get a revv 1. I love mine. No one ever bothers me
Says don't ride an E ebike cause you will go to jail ,as he rides off on a E bike...!
Lesson not learned...🤦♂️
Pedals dude pedals. That’s the difference of legality in my state
Solar eclipse 2.0. U can register and insure it.
Pretty bad these people in NY can go in and rob all these stores and not see a single night in jail and just get a slap on the hand but they slam you with a 90 day jail sentence for some stupid crap like this just shows how messed up our police system and laws really are
Wait did you lose your job due to this arrest?
Im subscribing just to know when you get out this situation is fucked tbh and I want you to keep your head high you shouldn't be going to jail for this
So is there seriously nothing at all you can do about this, theres no way any judge will see this as right, 3 months jail time with real criminals for riding an electric bike
Reply when you get out hope your good man
Good luck mate.
Don’t sell it just run bro
Want to hear something that powerful it's an electric motorcycle and does require a license if it goes over 25 mph 28 mph whatever
