Thanks so much for watching!! I feel like I've only scratched the surface of ren faire accessory potential with gourds, now I just gotta find an actually safe place to dry them!
I'm thinking there probably a bunch of dry your gourd videos. But I'd hang my gourd by their stem to allow air all around. I had similar issues with my loofa gourds. I gave up. Bureau you didn't.
Thank you so much!! Omg that would actually be really cute. I’ve also seen people turn long-necked gourds into water bottles, which could be really cool as part of a set like that!
Opening the gourd was 🫣😰, seeing the reveal 😍🥥🍁. It takes patience and a stomach to create a gourd pouch apparently. And safety. Lots of safety, bat costume included. This was such a fun Halloween episode----I feel like a variety of purses can be achieved by all the weird shapes squash come in, this was really cool to watch....the dramatic reenactment made me snort. Love the vlog style!! It's a great day when Goblin Girl posts any creation 🧚♀
@@JGVIllustrations thanks so much for watching!! And yeah!! I feel like the different shapes of gourds leaves room for some really cool different types of containers! I even saw someone who made a water bottle!
So excited to have found this channel in its early stages! Really excited to be here from the beginning once this channel blows up :-) love your content and personality! So fun to watch you do art
I just found your channel and I’m OBSESSED. I binged all your videos. And seriously how freaking adorable are you?! And creative, quirky, funny and super talented, and also I think you might be an actual elf? Please please please make more content because this is exactly what I need in my life.
Awww thank you so much!!! I'm so glad you enjoyed them all!! 💜 While goblin is my true nature, I definitely like to imagine I have some elf in me! hehe
That's really cute. If you make a bigger one, it could totally be a bird feeder or even a candle holder when the lid it all dawn up -maybe add some holes to the top if you use real candles and not the battery run ones.
That would be really cool, I love these ideas!! I've seen some bird houses that people make from gourds, there are so many fun things you can do with them!!
A little late to the party, but if you decide you want to alter the color of your gourd, or you make another one, you can use leather shoe polish! Just buff it on, let it sit for a bit, then buff the excess off with a soft cloth, and repeat until you get the color you want or the gourd shell stops soaking it up. If you're patient with buffing it afterwards you can get a really nice shine, kind of like an acorn! If you want to get fancy and your gourd has a shell that's thick enough and not too brittle (soaking it in water a little bit first can help), you can use a Dremel to carve in a pattern before using the polish, letting it sit longer in the carved places than on the surface so the carved lines are darker. Alternatively, you can use the polish first and then carve your pattern, giving you a darker surface and light lines. You can use the polish on the inside of the gourd as well, but it usually doesn't shine up quite like the outside. As for drying them, we used to just hang ours on a wire fence outside where they got some sun exposure and good air flow, so perhaps a wire rack on the outside of your shed?
Oh wow!!! Thanks for all these tips, this is awesome!! I definitely want to try the shoe polish trick next time I make one of these! And a rack outside the shed is a good idea! Do they survive okay if they get rained on, or is that something you need to bring inside?
@GoblinGirlStudio I honestly can't remember if we would move ours or if we just assumed some wouldn't make it, but if you get periods with a lot of rain or high humidity where you live it might be best if you moved them into the shed temporarily.
I'm really glad I saw this video because I have several gourds I dried intentionally this year to make rattles. But I didn't know how to deal with the moldy skin. And I was super curious what the insides looked like, although I have no intention to cut them open. I'm glad I got to see the inside of yours so I don't have to! I'm gonna paint mine with acrylic paints to make them colorful. I don't know if that's the best thing to do but I don't love the natural discolorations so that's my best guess.
So glad to help!! Some additional tips I've learned from the comments on this are: Use vinegar instead of bleach to kill the mold on the outside! Apparently bleach might not kill all the mold, but vinegar will (though, I still recommend doing lots of your own googling on safety before you take my word for it!) And I heard that shoe polish is good for coloring gourds (If you have any that you want to be more rich natural brown colors). If you're wanting something more colorful, I think you're on the right track with acrylic though! Good luck on your gourds!!
Hehe, yes!! I love my dremel!! I need to figure out how to use the little saw attachment still, though. That one intimidates me, but I know it would be so helpful!
The microbiologist in me cringed... and the crafter in me squeed. LOL The end result was worth the year of potential mould spore allergy symptoms though. 😂 Also, your fairy outfit rules.
I've definitely learned my lesson!! haha I have already thrown all my decorative halloween gourds away, like a good goblin!! And thank you!! Excited to do more fairy-costume videos soon!! I've loved working on this outfit!
I just looked into this after your comment, and apparently you can! Though I was reading that results were kind of mixed, and it can often mess the gourds up. But, if you're doing it in autumn, you can just go and get more gourds to try it on, so it might not be as much of an issue!
Please don't take this the wrong way!! But when I first saw your gourd dangling my instant thought was "it looks like a shrunken head". NOT that it isn't a cute purse for your fairy outfit! But I mean also another version might be to paint it like a skull or something for a different sort of fairy.

I’m here for the gourd goblin vibes
gourd pouch is cute!! you could probably get away with two or three at different heights 👀
Thank you so much!! Omg that would actually be really cute. I’ve also seen people turn long-necked gourds into water bottles, which could be really cool as part of a set like that!
Multiple gourds at different heights could be an interesting wind chime too, maybe?

Oh 😳 on no. lol. That must have been one crusty gourd....

You were adorable in your bat costume
Thank you! It's so cozy!!
In my high school our art teacher made us make a dried gourd bird. I did a phoenix. But the gourd birds were basically a right of passage.
That’s really cool! I love those high school projects that unite an entire school of art students!
@ we were united by the hot glue burns we got along the way
I'd invest in a Dremel. Great tool!
Oops you have one!😝
Hehe, yes!! I love my dremel!! I need to figure out how to use the little saw attachment still, though. That one intimidates me, but I know it would be so helpful!

Could you dry gourds out the oven? Rather than waiting a year? 🤔

im so late 😢 this is so cool!
Never too late! Thank you!!

hahah, probably would have helped!

I can totally see it! And a little skull bag would be so cool for a dark fairy costume!
Im gonna need you to make the top look like an acorn top.
Omg, that would be so cute!!
For the algorithm
💜 Thank you!! 💜
First I 🤢 then I ✨😮
@@jakehohsfield so glad you were healed by the end!!
