cueto is in another promotion (I think it is NWA). Maybe they are heading a simlar way... would be a good thing for making a small promotion working during the next three years of the pandemic...
My fiance tolerates wrestling for me. She loved LU. Still calls Ricochet Puma. She said it was because it was so different and kinda silly but everyone being in on it makes it work even the crowd. The ending was bad. Bad bad. First 2 seasons were golden televison. I still think a model like this could work. Seasonal, highly scripted characters but not overly scripted promos.
Lucha underground would have been still amazing till this day if the tv network and the company didn’t go into a dispute. They would probably be a top 3 promotion right now.
Years ago, there was once a man named Dario Cueto, a devious businessman who once led a company called Lucha Underground, based in Boyle Heights. But one day, Dario disappeared, having been overthrown by his own father, Antonio, who inadvertently burned the company to the ground. Because of this, an anonymous promoter from Britain purchased all of the company's assets and sold them to mainstream companies (WWE, NJPW, IMPACT, etc). Suddenly, Dario resurfaced, and at the same time, Antonio disappeared, leading to the creation of a rumor stating that he killed his father out of revenge, having learned of what happened to Lucha Underground. With a target still glued on him, and with the rumor going around, Dario decided to go on the run, adopting the alias of "El Jefe" Cesar Duran. Eventually, he became the new leader of a group known as Promociones Dorado and the founder of Azteca Underground, the spiritual successor to Lucha Underground. He and his new venture are currently working with Major League Wrestling.
Nice little way to tie both Undergrounds together. I just wish they could get some LU alumni back for AU. They got Muertes and Catrina back so maybe we could see others like Kross, Marty The Moth, Ivelisse and Swerve.
I can give a few reasons why Swagger could've worked as a heel world champion. An easy one is that he's the antithesis of Lucha Underground. The amount of heat he could've generated would've helped not just his profile but also the guy who would beat him for the title. His ring skills ate adequate enough that while he wouldn't be pleasing the people who think the in ring component is all that matters, he could put on a decent enough match. It's by no means an insult.
I would assume the plan was to bring fans back for season 5 to see Swagger destroyed. It wouldn't be any different from a regular TV drama ending the season with a seemingly status-quo changing shake-up event. (Mind, those kinds of season finales also tend to disappointingly get largely reversed or swept under the rug by the end of the first episode of the next season, but TV series still love to do them.)
I feel like you missed a very important detail at the end when swagger enters the limousine and wade barrett turns out to be his boss. This was a very good ending. Shame they couldn’t deal with their legal issues as they were the best wrestling promotion from 2015-2019
I think Jack Strong winning the lu championship was to plant the seeds for the upcoming Gods in the flesh story for season 5 as he was one of the seven gods that been talked about since season 1
I always thought that for a hypothetical Season 5, there would a Civil War-style storyline. Remember, at the end of Season 4, Antonio, Swagger, Vampiro, his new student (played by a wrestler named Australian Suicide) and the debuting Wade Barrett said that the Aztec gods were preparing for an upcoming war or something like that. At the same time, Aerostar took both medallion necklaces from Captain Vasquez and used them to go back in time and resurrect Dario Cueto. My fantasy booking would have the Aztec gods/Antonio Cueto VS. all the LU babyfaces/Dario Cueto for control of the company, with Aerostar finally becoming LU Champion after he foresaw the war coming and saved everyone.
Love the content. However I think the fans hating on swagger winning the title is little bit of an overreaction. He got heat, people were pissed. But I remember watching this at the time thinking that I cant wait for the follow up season. It would have been interesting to see what would have happen if LU continued.
When u bounce around between WWE, NJPW, UFC, Bellator, and AEW, fans never have hope for you to make any kind of long-term commitment and his character is always "I have muscle and was a collegiate All-American in heavyweight wrestling." Me: Cool. Uh . . . what else Jake: That's it. Me: oh. 😑
Lucha Underground is one of my favorite wrestling shows ever because it shows brutal matches that I never seen before and it gives the audience a really great show with great wrestlers who wrestler in the ring
Lucha Underground was the best wrestling promotion ever in my opinion & I’ve been watching wrestling since the 80’s! I remember watching the promos & how I couldn’t wait to watch. It was the 1st time I saw Puma, the Lucha bros, Drago & Aerostar..some of the best! This is what real wrestling fans want! It was no WWE crap (Worlds Worst Entertainment)! It’s a shame it only lasted 4 seasons..
I'll never forget the 3 stages of hell I think it was with dante fox and kill shot I wish dante would get signed and I miss marty the moth wish he would get signed
From the time I could walk my whole family were all about wwf of the 90's loved wwf!!! I thought I would never stop loving it but after the name change it was cool to see WCW/ECW/WWE all on one channel. It was after all that 15yr old me noticed the predictably of the show was just starting to make it boring and I didn't have that love of it anymore and I thought I would never be able to look at wrestling the same way ever. I was surfing UA-cam and saw a recommendation for the puma vs El dragon match...🤔🤔😲😲😮😯🤯🤯🤯 I was in awe wtf is this that wasn't that bad at all so I'm like I'll watch another match and if they can surprise me & show me something that I never seen before!!! WOW DAMN never failed to do just that!! the Master of Lucha Underground was actually AUstralian Suicide from AAA.. I noticed it because he has those 2lip rings and black lipstick.. he is known to wear emo/goth fashion in the ring while also doing Pac like moves set plus.. he's the only dude that does the corkscrew shooting star press like that
I could never get into watching Lucha Underground, it was just too goofy and presented weirdly for me. But I totally and absolutely understand the appeal of it.
LU was one of the most creative wrestling shows ever. Just plain good television. The first two seasons were perfection. I had given up watching wrestling at that point and it got me back into watching wrestling. Its sad they couldn’t find a way to manage the talent and just went downhill.
Lucha underground died because it had a tiny audience and because it’s a garbage mud show wrestling it was impossible to sell ad space for. It’s not a secret my guy.
First two seasons were some of the most beautiful displays in wrestling
Without a doubt. I would say season 3 was pretty good too but definitely not a 10/10 like 1 and 2. And then 4... 😬
Honestly, I really like season 3 too. It only lost me in season 4.

Wow, a lot of NXT and AEW stars. Had to actually look closely to see that was Thunder Rosa.

Yeah they were a lot of fun. I wish they had a women division.
@@KazeShikamaru I'm honestly happy they didn't. They let women wrestle the men!
