Your embarkation brought back wonderful memories of my first cruise experience on the Konningsdam. I laughed when you used the elevator and said "Oh it's Saturday!" likewise I made a similar comment. Every day I bookmarked with a photograph of the elevator floor, it was a great help when sorting for editing. Your comment on the artwork was another discovery. I was always surprised how so many people missed all the incredible artwork on the Konningsdam because they used elevators. Overall I greatly enjoyed the Konningsdam, a beautiful ship with great dining experiences, entertainment and services. I am presently considering the 7 day maritime Canada - New England cruise... checking your Vlog next!.
You folks could make ANY cruise a load of fun!! There's not a lot of the chocolate left now - good thing, we are trying to lose the extra wait before the next cruise! Thanks for the good times and letting us visit your huge balcony!
Enjoy the cruise. Vancouver is a top tier sail away port. Always fun to go under the lions gate bridge Some areas of the inside passage get super narrow. Lots to see
Paul and Carol never disappoint on their cabin choices. Looking forward to their vlog as well. We recently sailed to Alaska on Ovation. We had a wonderful trip except for seeing the glacier, which was at 5 AM. I woke up to see it but realized we hadn’t arrived yet, fell back to sleep and missed it. I noticed that Holland visits it during daylight hours, which is much better. I’m sure I’m going to enjoy revisiting Alaska with you guys.
Love your embarkation enthusiasm you both got a little “excited” upon entering ship and knowing the delicious treats were just around the corner. It shows in your smiles and the sound of your voice Holland is a cruise line you love to come back to.🤗
Everything looked Soooooo familiar as we were on Koningsdam to Hawaii out of Vancouver in April. So glad they got the Library finished for you Jill. Another great video.
Chad's parents have decided to come with us on our Koningsdam Alaskan cruise next summer, so we introduced them to your videos. They're loving them! Thanks for helping our whole family get excited for our next big family vacation!
Fantastic to see. It brings back a lot of great memories. I am missing HAL and Alaska, oh and yes, also the great cookies! Thanks for bringing it back. Have a great (cruise) life everybody.
I'm very happy you're doing the Alaska thing (sort-of my number one destination!) but I must say I'm surpriced YOU do it. You always say you have enough of COLD and SNOW from your own winters, so you going to Alaska does make me lift an eyebrow in surprice... You didn't even want to go to Iceland based on it being cold, but Iceland has always less snow than Alaska (not only because it is smaller) but because the whole country sits on an active vulcano, so there is always thermal heat in the ground. Said that, you are doing the right thing by going to Alaska. Its a dreamy place... I love it! ...and you are on HAL!!!
Alaska is the destination that everyone dreams of. We have had so many friends and family tell us that we must go so, we thought lets go see what everyone raves about. The fact that we were able to visit while on a HAL ship was the icing on the cake.🛳
I was on the Nieuw Statendam with my mom back in November and watching this brought back so many memories. I loved the Dutch Cafe treats also. Thanks for a great first day vlog 😊
Thanks guys for your wonderful vid on tge Koningsdam to Alaska. We are 4 Aussies coming to Vancoucer next May/June for a trip through the Rockies and a cruise to Akaska on tge Konibgsdam. Appreciate your vid which gave us some insight Regards Bob & Chris, Gold Coast, AUSTRALIA.
Great video! We live in Vancouver and will be on the Koningsdam in February for the 35-day Hawaii/South Pacific cruise so we went to the port to see her and it just happened to be the same day you boarded the ship to Alaska. Walking beside her, we saw Paul and Carole on their Neptune balcony and we had a quick conversation. So excited to see them. Too bad, you weren't there as well. Follow you and love your videos. Thank you!
They told us about you. Sorry we missed you by literally a couple of minutes. Sure you will have a fabulous time on the Koningsdam in February. It’s a beautiful ship. The staff and food was phenomenal on our voyage.🛳
I actually shivered when you said cabana on glacier bay day. It was so cold in glacier bay when we went (Aug) that I would stay on the balcony for 10 minutes then run in to warm up and go back outside. But, you're Canadian and I'm a Floridian.
You got on board very quickly! We were on this cruise in May. We checked in at 1:00 and didn’t get on board until 4:00. We were not prepared for that line through security and customs. It sounds like the port staff is more efficient than they were at the beginning of the season. We were in an inside cabin as well. It’s refreshing to see vloggers using an inside cabin instead of a balcony cabin. I’m jealous you had a sofa! We splurged on the Thermal Suite pass which we were very pleased with. I hope you have good weather in Glacier Bay. We had a picture perfect “national geographic” day. Gorgeous and breathtaking! We are trying to decide what cruise to do next. Which port do you prefer between Ft Lauderdale and San Diego? We are trying to decide between Mexico, Panama Canal and Southern Caribbean.
We were pre warn that Vancouver was a difficult port to get through. Holland America sent us an email stating ‘Come Early’ which worked well for us. We loved the one time that we cruise from San Diego. It is a beautiful city. Fort Lauderdale is generally a city that we mostly cruise from because the cruises departing from there often offer better ports of calls in our opinion.🛳
We stayed in the cabin right beside that big suite that Carole and Paul were in. It was empty on our cruise so our cabin steward took us on a tour. It is gorgeous.
Love to see your opinion about the Koningsdam. We sailed the Rotterdam twice and ❤ the ship. We’ll be in your cabin (6127) in January ‘25 sailing to Hawaii 😂 What a pity there is no hot tub at the Retreat 🙄
Sounds great! Sure you will love the Koningsdam it is almost identical to the Rotterdam with the exception of NO Half Moon Bar and No hot tub in the Retreat.🛳
You mentioned that you booked a cabana for Glacier bay sea day. How much does it cost and what are the benefits of having it? Do you get a good spot to view the glaciers? Can you order food there? Are there washrooms nearby? I’ll be cruising solo and I don’t have a balcony cabin so I’m wondering if I should book a cabana as well. Thank you and I’m looking forward to more videos.
We paid $85 US for the day. There are bathrooms right beside the Cabanas. There is full butler service for the day. The are open at 9am. So you can have breakfast and lunch served to you in your cabana if you wish. The ship will do a full circle rotation at the glacier so that you will have a view no matter were o n the ship you are. If you choose not to do the cabana we would recommend that you go to the bow of the ship that HAL open to the passengers for Glacier Bay day. They were serving Pea Soup there.
How did you get those videos at 20:00 from off the side and stern of the ship? Did you use a drone? I didn't think that they allowed those on cruise ships.
We just did a live broadcast that covers equipment. About have way thru the live we talk about camera gear and mention how we do this. It’s an Insta360 camera on a long selfie stick that gets those shots.
I’m so enjoying your blog! I’m going to be sailing this same ship Aug 26 so your video came at a perfect time! I haven’t finished watching this first video but I just wanted to write and thank you for sharing it. I’ll be following your whole trip and I’ve subscribed. How bad was the line at US customs? Did you have to wait in line for a long time? Also how was going through security? Did it take a long time?
Thanks for subscribing. We took Holland America’s advice and showed up at the port when the doors opened at 10am. That meant that we didn’t have any wait to clear US customs or security however, we did have to seat in awaiting room for over an hour before the ship was ready to board. We felt sitting in the waiting room was better than standing in the lines for hours.
@@CruisingCanucks I agree and thank you so much for replying so quickly!! I appreciate it very much. I was on NCL Star in July for an iceland/Greenland cruise and we stood in line for 1.5 hours before we got on the ship. No chairs were made available! It was appalling as there are a lot of people who have difficulty standing for so long. So I really like how HAL is doing this. I look forward to the cruise very much. Thank you once again. I’m enjoying your second day video now.
In our LIVE we said that we had a great time and happy we went to Alaska. We said that Alaska (not the cruise) didn't give us the 'wow factor' that it does for some, since we live in an area blessed we equally great scenery and wildlife. You'll see through this vlog series that we had a wonderful cruise - we love the opportunity to travel. :)
Why did you have to rush to book a cabana? In your cabana video, you mentioned calling Ship Services 3-6 months in advance to book one. Does that trick no longer work?
Thanks to everyone that joined us for the LIVE chat in this Premiere. We had a great first day and was the perfect start to our 7 days to Alaska!

Great idea of taking photo of the floor! We just got off Cunard and missed not have the days of the week in the elevator. 😊

Great first day! Brought back a lot of good memories of Koningsdam & Alaska.

The inside cabins look so nice and roomy!
There's not a lot of room to walk around but it's large and has a sofa!
Enjoy the cruise.

We have heard that HAL has increased the cost of the cabana’s recently so we aren’t sure of the current price.
How do you cross your middle fingers. Now me and my wife are sitting here trying to do it!!
Idk, I’ve just always have done. Perhaps it has something to do with me missing part of my index finger since a young child.🤔

You can pre-book your Cabana if you want one for the whole cruise. If you only want one for a day then it has to be reserved once to are on board.
What is the difference between a steam room and sauna
Very true♨️
Is there still a classical music venue?
No, Lincoln Center stage is no longer on Holland America. So no classical band or live classical band with the BBC Earth show.
