Regular Car Reviews: 1979 Corvette C3

- The C3 'Vette is an Atlantic City escort, layering on foundation and mortgaging her future to maintain a lifestyle that has not made sense since 1967. When I see a C3, I think about that lady at the bowling alley bar who grabbed my hoo-haas in 2008. She held her Kool and said: "It's about time we get some YOUNG blood in this place.
Special thanks to Ted Stoltz for serving as our 3rd videographer. - Авто та транспорт
no matter how bad it is, its still the most beautiful corvette in my opinion
United States of Embarrassment 63 split window...
Makin Bacon yeah the original stingray is a beauty too, but I don't like the front end as much as I do on the C3. Just my personal opinion, looks are subjective after all..
nj4ck yeah, c3s are good looking too and if you look up the lingenfelter colection on youtube they showcase a c4 that looks very nice and it has 600 horses :D
I'm with you so much there, they are the best looking so far, even after the c2s.
Lol the early C3 is much nicer with chrome bumpers and egg crate fender vents. I had to laugh when he mentioned the 240z leaving this in the dust.
I grew a mullet and had a cigarette taste in my mouth just looking at the thing.
Once I saw that interior, I went past that and died simultaneously of emphysema and lung cancer
No amount of chemo could kill that mullet tho
mine is beautiful! white with red pin stipes and has holley sniper efi with a swapped engine
I sprouted a Members Only jacket
Damn😭😂☠️

"if a stratocaster was a car" you're speaking my language, friend
now if the c2 was a fender strat, what would make the c4 then? A Dean Dave Mustaine?
I wonder what the telecaster of cars is. An old Camaro SS?

Hey kelly
The pre 74 C3's were pretty good cars, I don't think its fair to say the C3 was crap. Just the ones after emissions control.
Robert C well said
68 and 69 chrome vettes are my favorite of all 7 generations
My pops and I have a72 c3 w/manual tranny, it's a brilliant car.
'73 and newer are garbage....8.5cr , rubber bumpers, garbage quality...ect.
All the cool muscle cars got neutered.
Corvette just looked good doin it!😂
The eighties just sucked😂
I know. I was born in the 80s!
Still gonna get a pre 77... 77 is too one-of-kind resto.
Love the flat back window.
Daily driver would be nice!
Gotta save up for that 69, 427😂😂😂
I honestly think the C3 Corvette is one of the top ten most beautiful cars ever made. But it was a train wreck by the end, sadly. That does make it an excellent foundation for today, though!
I agree. There is no other car in history that looks anything like this car. Amazing curves. Not like modern car curves.
Doggieman1111 Well, the Daytona was awesome, and Corvette (and then Viper) certainly pulled a lot from that. Then again, the Daytona pulled a lot from the roadster and the Ferraris and European sports cars that came before. Still, I love C3 Vettes so much.
it looks like...it looks like...uh...a penis.
I will respectfully disagree. It is a pretty car, but in my opinion, it's not top ten.
I kinda want to 5.0 swap one if it'll fit 😂
Because of this video I am purchasing a C3. Love it.
I drove one for a short time last year and it was serious a pleasure to ride in despite all it's issues. A real head turner, but a true joy to ride and cruise in.
From where??
@@Jude300c I'm thinking about buying a 1981 Corvette this summer and as a person who has owned a Corvette, I got 2 questions.
1. How long did it last
2. Is it worth buying one
is your every day car a mighty 4cyl civic???
@@Drake_4do not buy any 1981-82s they have a very old computer. The best ones are 69-74 most reliable.
I always liked the earlier C3 styling but yeah.... emissions engines
Great styling, malaise performance.
Just put a new GM performance 350 in it and you’re good to go.
@@elitewarrior0076 it's weird how these cars are considered non performance vehicles in a world where engine swaps are a popular form of entertainment. This is the kind of car you accidentally make faster just by cutting corners on regular maintenance.
@@elitewarrior0076 If you're gonna bother with an engine swap, you may as well go LS

Early C3's are my favorite looking Corvettes...
yes I agree so much
"I'm sure I'm forgetting something... What is it I'm forgetting? Oh yeah, headlights go uuuUUUUUUUUUuuuuuuuuuuUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUuuhhhhhhhp-there we go."
Other than the DeLorean, probably one of the most amazing and unique-looking cars ever designed. Whereas modern cars have lame curves in all the wrong places, this car has curves that look stunning.
DUDE, the C3 is amazing.
Completely cracked me up at the headlights scene.
I like the C3. Its a great design undone by the poor quality of the 70's. And thats a reflection of government regulation, not the Corvette's design.
That's a reflection of bad leadership by GM leading to sub par products.
Exactly! They were lazy. Actually, during that time, I'm surprised that design escaped the sketchpad. But, you definitely were not a happy engineer.
Emissions standards are stricter now than they were then, and we have 800+ horsepower mass production vehicles
Gloxxify Emissions were in their infancy then. Auto makers have had over 40 years to engineer.
@@Eric-zs6rdYeah almost a half century later, the tech improved, DUH! Comparing tech now to then is silly. in 1979 a $1,200.00 Apple II+ personal computer had an 8 bit CPU, 16 KILObytes of RAM and NO storage internal OR external storage (a cassette recorder or floppy disk were OPTIONAL!) meaning that 1200 bucks bought a digital device with LESS power and out of the box usefulness than a new $40.00 Roku. That's a more impressive jump than a mere 4x power at somewhat better MPG.
I'd take that car with 90hp any day.
and that's about it!
We don't have any footage of a C1. What a long strange trip it's been, had to come back to look at the C3 video.
OMG the HEADLIGHTS!! I leave mine up always just in case LMAO
I Love these guys! They be funny! It's not the C3's fault that federal regulations took away it's power. If you remove the cat, add Flow Masters, or Borla, Or Magna Flows, ect you can get near 250 HP. Intake manifold change will get another 30 to 50. As primitive as the suspension is now, they handle very well. And they LOOK Great. Best Looking car made in America EVER!(In my humble opinion).
I put magna flows 12" on both sides and routed out the side
The feds took nothing away.. The car brands got cheap and didn't find ways to keep the power up with low emissions levels.
Max Power High flow cats, high flow mufflers, and good, modernised fuel injection will push you past 250, while a wide spacing 6 speed & an appropriately adjusted rear axle gear will make 250 feel like 350.
A cam swap, intake and exhaust you'll get back to 350-400 easy
LS swap bruhh
"Fuck off I got work to do"
You're making a great job. Pleasure is in old fashioned, affordable, pretty used cars. Not only in those few untouchables hypercars that stay hidden in garages.
Just continue, it's great !
Don't need first gear...
I've heard tales of C3 'vettes with the 'Many Cubic Inch' engine doing burnouts in 4th.
In terms of appearance, the C3 is definitely my favorite vette. If I could have a C3 body with a C7 stingray set under the hood then the world would B O W to me.
C2 is the best body style ever!
My all time favorite car. Beautiful design in the C3
I love the quickness of the pop-up headlights.
Those cars should be given to those fucks that flash at u on the highway that would teach them
Saw this video on my recommended list, LOVE IT! I subbed. These reviews are hilarious.
Lol at the headlights!
Depressing take on a car that had to put up with a lot of restrictions, and SURVIVED.Still better than most out there at the time ,that is fun to drive ,and with a great look.
Pure poetry. I'd pay for an audio book, narrated by you, about an alcoholic detective in a trenchcoat.
Always a good way to start off the week!
The C3 Corvette really is a special car really because it went through three different drastic car eras. It was designed in the 60s during the muscle car/can-am era, spent most of its life in the performance doldrums and clunky styling trends of the 70s, and ended with the more high-tech sensibilities of 80s. By 1982 it was essentially a car with a curvy 1960s body with a 1980s engine and interior. The only other car that I can think of that had such a diverse lifespan would be the Lamborghini Countach.
I’ve driven one of these, I don’t care how much it lacks power, it looks nice and it’s still fun to drive. That’s all I need
Everything negative stated had nothing to do with the corvette but with the tree huggers in office. It’s a gorgeous car. And while it’s lighter a Porsche the same year had all of 180 HP.
Wow, I have nothing to comment on well spoken truth 👍🇺🇸

Apparently vertical headlights do something to him....
One of the funniest car reviews I've ever seen. Subscribed
That’s still the most beautiful corvette that was ever made. I don’t care what everyone else has to say.
I'm still repairing an old 1979 Corvette after a couple of months and it only had around 30,000 miles on it. The starter was fried, the fuse block was fucked, A/C didn't work and the door panel was slightly pulled out on one side (somehow).
What really annoyed me was how it had all these problems and was only sitting around in a garage for 2 - 3 years with slight service. I kept encountering more and more while working on it and now I'm just down to the core problem which is the starter relay. Hopefully I can get it running and sell it for any amount I can in the next couple of weeks.
The poor quality on these things really show and you gotta be on top of every single mechanical part on it or else it all falls apart. A real shame, but I bet there are owners out there that have turned their trailerpark 'vette into something decent.
As an owner of a "high performance" L-82 powered 1979 C3 since it was brand new, I agree 1000% with everything you said. Spot on!!!
and after all of that, I still love the c3! ☺
Hmmm, refreshed hoping to see a video from you. How lucky I am. Only on for 5 minutes too.
I'll take an early C3. The '84 Vette only had like 150h.p. The c4 should've been called the snorevette. C3's where the best looking Vettes ever!
studio7 No no no. I must disagree with you. '63 Corvette coupe was the best looking car ever.
Buizel0418 - The Otaku Car Guy Yes the 1963 C2 brilliant looks, but apart from the window which looked great, i'd still go for the 1969 C3, and 2nd place 1967 C2 with stinger hood, but it would be boring if we all had the same tastes!
The c4 ended with 405 hp
Had an '82 C3, what a POS but, man, did I love it. The feel you got sitting behind the wheel was unforgettable. As someone else said, this will make an amazing build platform, got me thinking, UMHH
awesome video =D
only found you the channel last week but I'm in love!
1969-1970 C3, beautiful car, before all the emissions bullshit and plastic bumper hideousness. Early C3 had the curves of a true sports car.
Yep. With the chrome.
1968-1973
I want one so bad lol they can be fun project cars.
Each video is better than the last... keep it up regular guys.
I'm loving this channel so much
You missed a perfect opportunity for an Erectile Dysfunction joke at 4:30 COME ON!!!
I was hoping for a C5 or a C6. But I know after seeing this C3 in the Delorean video, I knew this was going to be the car he'd review. I guess this will do for now. Still waiting on that 5 and 6 though.
I am so happy with the C3 that my family owns, the original owner of the car decided that the original engine in our 76 stingray was wimpy and dropped a 602 crate motor, 4 speed transmission, and drag differential in the back. When I tell you that it does burnouts in second gear, I am not lying. 400 hrsp is plenty for this tiny fiberglass coffin.
That wasn't the heater, that was the heat coming through the firewall off the headers. Learned to drive a stick on that car-- In winter, in Kalamazoo, T-Tops off, stayed warm from header heat. Best day of my life.
oh my god I absolutely lost it at the end with the headlights.
You're Another Moron Not knowing that to fix that cost under 2.00 & takes all of 30 seconds. Duh!
@@fastvette333 you just replied to my comment made 6.5 years ago implying that I own the car or have any interest in old corvettes, both being invalid.
@@JackpodyDK No CHRIS ACTUALLY I IMPLIED THAT YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT THE FUCK YOUR TALKING ABOUT! THAT SAID I STAND BY MY COMMENT. : )
@@fastvette333 Why do I not know what I'm talking about? My original comment literally just stated that the fact the headlights didn't go up all the way made me laugh. What is your problem with that?
My problem with that Chris is that IF I knew what you are driving I could Easily Find Something to Laugh About IT. Or do you drive The Perfect car? Haven't seen one as yet & never will. You are no doubt the kind of person who laughs at the disabled; Or wants to!
I finally understand why your videos are so awesome. It feels like I'm watching Top Gear but for every car and MAN I love Top gear.
does the owner of that corvette have a wife with a delorean?
*****
Figures all 3 DeLorean owners would be friends.
actually i met a guy at a car show once who DD a 1979 black corvette and his wife had a delorean
\
***** were you at a car show behind lowes in abingdon?
***** ill have to check that out this year
The corvette was one of my favorite cars growing up and what's so funny is that this video came out on my birthday, Feb 17th.
I liked the part where he described the engine heat and fire wall as “The heater”
Well, I can check "hear a car get favourably compared to an intact dick" off my life list :P
Man, I love the view at 01:48. No heavy A-pillars to intrude, no truck mirrors to get in the way, and the glass T-tops give you an airy, open feeling you just don't get with a sliding sun roof.
The C3 really summed up the USA to me as a kid in the early 1980s, watching TV in the uk. The C3 would often be driven by the bad guys in TV shows. The C3 seems to have always had a slightly seedy image. And this one being reviewed perfectly encapsulates that.
I soooo love this car!!!!!!!
Still, in my opinion, the best body style of all the Corvettes. With modern parts you could make this into an excellent car I bet.
C2 is the Corvette!
@@shoreguyeast C2 is good corvette. C3 is also good corvette.
RCR guy: I don't have any C1 footage. Morpheus: Yes you do, You just haven't filmed it yet....

headlights go uuuuuuuuuuuup we go
I literally burst out laughing at that headlight part. You're the man.
Vacuum nightmare
Beautiful cars, love the C3.
I love the guy with a clipboard in the passenger seat. You guys rule!
of all the cars that I have ever seen, this is the only one that looks better with pop up lights than regular headlights. Every attempt at giving this car normal lights has always ended up making the car look worse, which is hard to do when you're starting out with pop ups
Sounds like you just don't like pop-ups for some stupid reason.
@@JoshuasRecordings You're right, I don't. They're ugly and dumb
These were recorded before the Echo died
I was expecting a positive review of what could have been a highly under-appreciated car... what I get was the first 17 seconds of this video... then the review continues and I now understand why you never see these...
Hilarious review , thanks for uploading.
This is an L48. It didn't make 200hp. It made 180hp. You want the 220hp L82 4 spd.
No I don't. All 3 of them are shit. I want to LS swap a C3.
J King You'll just waste of ton of money. Could have bought a newer car that came with an LS. These old Vettes won't handle that speed without a ton of upgrades.
But I like the C3
J King Seems like you're dead set. Go for it then, man. Just know that you will have to put some money into it. Good luck, and have fun.
@MRT well said. The only thing worth a damn in 79 was the underrated Pontiac W72 400 motor which came in the Firebirds/Trans Ams. Didn't take much to wake those babies up. Fastest American production cars of 79
late 60's c3 are the best, no doubt
Spectre1406 I agree
Speaking as a '78 Corvette C3 (4 speed) owner myself, this video is fucking hilarious. :D Keep up the great work!
My first car was a 79 vette. This is thoroughly accurate and I miss her every day
4:24 EPIC!!!
When i watched the delorean episode, i felt bad for that c3 in the background. It was like oooh delorean!!! what a c3? lol nobody gives a shit about c3-s . Good think the c3 got some attention as well.

What, no Pumpkins reference in this one?
NEED A CORVETTE C5 REVIEW!!!
My 1969 T Top vette came from the factory as a drag car. 11.5:1 compression. Headers to side pipes. The guy I bought it from decked the heads,( 12.5:1 compression ) changed the rear end to a 6.? and put in a kevlar clutch with maybe 20-30lbs of pressure needed. On Soft Z rated tires I ran 11.9 at 107 ( bumping of the rev limiter ) after I recovered it from just sitting for 20 years. Some new parts and a new Holly 750 double pumper she fired up. It was white with black interior, beautiful Chrome front and rear bumpers, and the luggage rack. Had to run 93 Octane plus a gal or 2 of race fuel to keep it from detonation. Got 5-8 miles / gal. Could start in 4th and smoke the tires. Was built as a 1/8 mile drag car, sold it to get a new 1994, but man do I miss that car. Wanted a daily driver and the 69 was not it but damn it got heads a turning. ( it was so loud, not cause it looked great, I didn't fix the paint and it was not great but the headers to side exhaust was supper loud ! ) The 94 and later 95 I had were by far better cars and I got 26 mpg on long trips in both. ( both autos ) I like the look of the 69 ( which was touted as being 1/2" wider inside and it helped ) but the driving experience and handling of the 93-96 were just so much better. I also had a 1985 in early 1990 but it was only 1/2 the car the 93-96 was. I forgot to add, in 69, the T-TOPS AND THE short BACK WINDOW came out for almost convertible like wind.
Despite it not being a good car, we can all agree that it is one of if not THE sexiest car to have and ever will exist.
wasnt a good car after c1971 but earlier , always deated Ferraris
I like the late sixties early seventies C3
I want to See more reviews of European Cars!

These cars look sweet but 25hp per cylinder is a joke.
Its what america did to the corvette... good thing the c4 slowly saved the name, then c5... well, kinda went sky high from here on
The Post-Embargo 1970's were dark times for Automobiles.
U2Jaime1317 yup, C4 saved the day.
Hp per cylinder means nothing, hp per cubic inch is more accurate and relatable to performance
Best looking cars ever... the early C3 Stingrays with chrome bumper were even better and could out run any japanese crap, the engines were brilliant over 500hp and 170mph in 1970, so good Italian car makers like Iso Grifo used Corvette engines in their cars in the late 1960's and built gorgeous cars better than the equivalent ferrari's, lambo's and maserati's etc. The reason for the engine size is purely American legislation...get over it. Have you ever seen British , and Japanese crap built at the same time? It's poor ,Italian and japanese were known as rust buckets. The Corvette stingray is probably the best looking sports car over 60 year history compared to anything else in production for that amount of time, whilst still keeping the same , but progressed style, lines and design for the car. This video is a set up, obviously a jealous corvette hater...ha ha. By the way the new C7 Corvette stingray is a brilliant car. 0-60mph in 3 seconds and awsome handling and of course looks.....
Don't forget that 1972 GM changed HP calculation and cut 20% of HP on each model and engine. SO technically later cars for sure had less power but not as much as it sounds. Plus people cut away all eco crap after the warranty period and return almost everything back using the very common that time 650CC carb instead of quadrajet system. Thanks for the video, I like your style!
they went from "brake" power, measured at the flywheel to Dyno power measured at the rear wheels.
@@stephensepan291 correct. It means that power dropped on paper.
4:26-4:33 My favorite part lol. It's like me waking up on a monday, groggy as hell hahaha.
Nooooo, you nailed the history of it but you didn't go into any modern relevance!
Right at the end you got a brief taste of what the point of driving a C3 today was. I bet if you would of dropped a gear, pinned it on an open highway, all of the images of Olivia Newton-John sitting in the passenger seat would come flooding over you, and all the cracked seams and loose bodywork would slowly smooth until you were driving what you were convinced was the fastest car you've ever driven.
At least until you got passed by a Subaru STi.
That is... unless the owner was a true gearhead, at which point if you pinned and revved it out you might piss your pants.
***** Lol nice, that probably IS the fastest thing he has ever driven then!
***** Thanks for Sharing.
Your forgetting its a corvette. Its supposed to be the pinnacle of American Automotive Engineering. Chevy dropped the ball with the c3's.
cameron bryant Chevy did not drop the ball, they had to deal with the sudden restrictions of new emissions standards. Name ONE, just ONE, US market vehicle that didn't suck in 1979 (in terms of power).
Nope, they knew that there would be a future where you could by a perfect 1979 and swap in a 600hp 6.0L LS for under $20K including the used 'vette.
That is what these are for.
Lol review my 240Z
thank you for the shout out to my Datsun! ;D
Just LS swap it and merge the sexiest corvette body with sexiest corvette engine.

+George Wettig - Can't afford? That car is worth about $9,500-$10,500. Don't think it's that expensive. He has driven way more expensive cars.
The C3 corvette is one of the best. I drive an '81 every day.
I love my 1970 C3 convertible! It's the sexiest car on the road. Those curves, that raw power! Besides it has alien technology in it, fiber optics!
